SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Excellent range and stopping power has the ability to bring a small transport, starfighter, light corvette, or freighter to a (near) halt, enacting a highly-localized gravitational field effect on the targeted vessel.
  • Once ensnared, a captain will find their ship unable to accelerate or maneuver easily - if at all - and prevented from jumping away to hyperspace.
  • Of average weight and size for a small torpedo launcher and having average recoil, it can be mounted on any of a variety of ships.
STRENGTHS:
  • Can cause a ship to become slowed or stopped, unable to jump to hyperspace, accelerate or maneuver easily, leaving it undamaged but vulnerable to attack or boarding.
  • Disregards shields, as the effect works the same on shielded vessels or unshielded ones.
  • Weakens shields of targeted ships by up to 50% - though only temporarily, as the effect weakens shields gradually regain their original strength.
  • While ensnared, a ship that pushes its propulsion to break free comes at risk of overheating engines and other potential malfunctions.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Lacks the power to affect ships larger than 100m, making them useless against larger capital ships or heavy freighters.
  • Effect lasts only 5-10 minutes in duration, gradually beginning to weaken after 5 minutes.
  • Makes no real damage against ships struck, only subjects them to a powerful yet very temporary gravity well effect.
  • Localized effect makes it impractical and impossible to use against multiple ships simultaneously, thus affecting only the ship struck by the torpedo.
  • Limited capacity magazine and very slow reload time make it impractical to rely on throughout prolonged conflicts.
  • Due to its being, in effect, a technological version of a dovin basal, many of the same strategies developed during the Yuuzhon Vong War can possibly be applied to defeat the effects of these torpedoes.
  • Does not permanently weaken shields and as the effect weakens shields return to previous strength levels, leaving the window of vulnerability to be – at best – ten minutes in duration.
  • Launcher can only use the specially-designed Quickspace torpedoes and will not accommodate different munitions options; if the supply of Quickspace torpedoes is exhausted, the launcher becomes useless.
  • Must strike the targeted ship (or its shields) directly to be truly effective.
DESCRIPTION:

Using specially-designed munitions, essentially miniaturized ID-84 Interdiction Missiles, the Quickspace Launcher was able to fire miniaturized missiles which – detonating against or very near an enemy vessel – would create a powerful localized gravitational field, ensnaring the ship and preventing it from entering hyperspace and forcing to complete halt or else – in the case of ships with very powerful propulsion systems – to at least become extremely sluggish, rendering acceleration and maneuverability exceedingly difficult. A ship so ensnared would be, for the next five to ten minutes, vulnerable to attack and makes it possible to close on and board them, assuming their shields have been disabled.

While it causes no serious or permanent damage to targeted vessels, it does create a window of opportunity to attack and/or board them, making it a valuable asset in the arsenal of pirates, security forces, or military ships. Unlike a tractor beam, which actually enables the attacking vessel to ‘reel’ in their prey, Quickspace torpedoes only disable a ship where it is, weakening shield levels by as much as 50%, and opening them to further attacks. The attacking ship must still press the attack or close to board them within the allotted duration of the effect. Measures can be made by defending vessels to negate or prevent the effects of this weapon, but captains of those ships will have only seconds to enact them before risking being disabled.

Limited only to effectiveness against ships 100m or smaller in length, the Quickspace Launcher is able to reach excellent range and possesses a high rate of fire, making it perfect for use against freighters, small transports, starfighters, and even light corvettes. However, with just thirty rounds available in the magazine and a very slow reload time, using this weapon carelessly or with too much indulgence will leave it exhausted early on and it isn’t a good choice for primary weapons systems or prolonged combat. But for the captain who needs to stop a small vessel cold, to create a window of opportunity to press their attacks or board an enemy ship, or even those needing to stop smaller-sized security vessels from chasing them, the Quickspace is a terrific option to have.
