Misc. Equipment:
  • Retractable broadband antenna
  • Hyperwave communications system (encrypted)
  • Miniaturized XZ-77 "Buster" Communications Module
  • Survey Scanner Package collects atmospheric, meteorological, botanical, zoological, technological, and geological information
  • Com-scan device monitors and collects data regarding communications broadcasts
  • Internal Orbital Strike Beacon
  • DNA Tracker / Tracer
  • Biometric Recognition Software
  • Multiple-Target Tracking System
  • Locator Chip (for later recovery)
  • Self-Destruct Capability
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Acting independently, a dozen of these devices could effectively map a small moon in a matter of two weeks, collecting a variety of geographical, meteorological, atmospheric, botanical, zoological, and geological information, even recording populated areas with information concerning numbers of beings, technology present, and buildings / constructs.
  • Capable of scanning for and tracking a specific individual, or observing and recording them while relaying those recordings simultaneously via encrypted hyperwave communications.
  • Locator chips allow operation, tracking, and recovery for up to 2 years, due to graphene batteries.
  • Encrypted communications relay information via hyperwave communications back to the ship, where collected information could be assembled, organized, and used for accurate mapping and detailed reports about the moon or planet being surveyed.
  • Shadowskin prevented ease of detection, however they would not evade sophisticated scans intent on searching for ‘spy’ probes or similar technologies.
  • Capable of identifying targets to assist ground forces, or else to position themselves to pinpoint orbital strikes, however in the latter case, the droid would almost certainly not survive.
  • No offensive or defensive capabilities.
STRENGTHS:
  • Very powerful sensor package, capable of collecting vast amounts of information concerning a planet’s geography, its settlements (their population sizes, technological capabilities, and constructs), flora and fauna, atmosphere, weather, and more and relaying this data back to a ship or station located elsewhere, thus allowing ‘automated survey and exploration’ of a terrestrial object.
  • Stealthy, the shadowskin-covered carapace is lightweight and durable, and almost unable to be detected or noticed by even military-grade scanners and sensors, without a purposed and dedicated search by advanced systems.
  • Long battery life and memory capacity allows long-term operation for in-depth studies.
  • Can be used to locate, track, and record individuals such as fugitives, etc. silently from afar.
  • Can be used to serve as forward observation droid for ground troops, identifying, acquiring, and tracking targets for them.
  • Able to summon massive yet precision orbital strike from friendly starships.
  • Very hard to slice; protected by anti-slicing package and anti-tampering self-destruct system.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Due to size constraints, no offensive or defensive systems could be placed into these droids, making them extremely vulnerable if and when they are detected by hostile forces.
  • Droids almost never survive orbital strikes once initiated, and are virtually certain to be vaporized in the attack.
  • Can be visually spotted, even if invisible to most sensor sweeps, and tracked by observers.
  • Do not analyze information themselves, instead collecting raw data and transmitting it back to the ship or station it is programmed to report to, meaning that information must be collated, sorted, identified, and analyzed by computer systems or agents there to be organized into any kind of useful report.
  • If destroyed, as by orbital strike, accidental destruction, being shot down, or self-destruction, or should the droid exhaust its power supply, any and all collected data which has yet to be transmitted is lost.
  • Facial recognition software and DNA tracer are only 72.34% effective, given the remoteness of the droid’s observational positioning in most cases, meaning that it may incorrectly identify an individual or fail to recognize its target in usually 1 in 4 attempts.
  • Cannot be used in space or to scan where no gravity exists.
DESCRIPTION

Carried aboard Visanj’s ship, these droids – inspired by the Sith-used DRK-1 and later, the Imperial R-1 – were versatile and powerful tools. Able to be deployed in the skies of a moon or planet, these units will disperse into a survey pattern eventually covering the entire body (usually two weeks for a small moon, and four to six weeks for an average-sized planet) where they would collect and transmit raw data concerning a host of information back to their designated collection point, i.e. a ship or station, where it was combined, analyzed, sorted, and organized into an effective intelligence survey report and map.

Information collected would provide detail information about atmospheric make-up, pollution levels, weather patterns, geographic mapping, flora and fauna identification, population details, technology levels, artificial constructs such as buildings, ruins, etc., and even geological survey information. It would can for communications and record them (though not translating, decrypting, or analyzing their content). In short, these little droids could tell you everything you wanted to know about a world, without having to do these surveys one’s self.

Given their long lifespan and ability to operate largely unobserved due to their quiet running, small size, and sensor-defeating coating on their black carapaces, they could observe and report on changing conditions, surface activities, and more for up to two years before exhausting their energy supplies. Further, they could, in usually three out of four instances, identify and track a single individual being, sentient or non-sentient, to observe and study the being, sending thousands of hours of holo-video back to be studied and analyzed.

In combat situations, the droids served a secondary purpose. Monitoring enemy communications, they could also locate, acquire, and track enemy targets for friendly forces (acting as forward observers for air support, artillery, naval artillery, and scouting for infantry and cavalry) or else be used to make pinpoint accuracy for massive orbital strikes by friendly starships above, though the droid would not likely survive. Though lacking in their own offensive or defensive capabilities, they were vulnerable. To prevent falling into enemy hands, they featured a special anti-tampering / slicing self-destruct program which would explode them and render the remains unable to be reverse-engineered or salvaged, causing all information onboard which had not yet been sent back to be lost.
