Description:
The Prowler Class Patrol Frigate is Blood Hunter's Iron Works first step toward bringing a well rounded selection of Capital Ships to it's inventory. The Prowler takes versatility to a level not previously seen in Blood Hunter's products. In the past, when a ship was determined to be overly specialized or ill-suited to it's intended role, Blood Hunter's simply created a new vessel or new version of said vessel. The Prowler is an attempt to blend balanced firepower, and mission versatility into a single vessel.

This versatility comes largely in the form of hanger selection. In the past, vessels were outfitted with support craft based largely on the role said vessel was intended to fulfill. The Prowler is the first Blood Hunter's Iron Works product to leave this section open ended, there by giving the option of support craft best suited to individual missions. A Prowler being used in a patrol capacity may make better use of Interceptors as opposed to Heavy Bombers, for instance.

As with most Blood Hunter's Capital Ships, The Prowler's strength of arms lies in it's broadside weaponry. A number of Twin Turbo Laser Turrets run along the narrow body of The Prowler. These turrets act as the ship's primary weapons and are supported by a Heavy Turbo Laser near the prow, or nose, of the ship. In conjunction with the Concussion Missile Tubes along each side, there's no mistaking the strength of it's broadside capabilities.

The Prowler also boasts a formidable forward weapons array. Four individual Turbo Laser Turrets are mounted to the prow of the vessel. These turrets offer a decent fire arch, and can be aimed individually in order to track priority targets. A single Concussion Missile Tube addes to The Prowler's forward firepower, helping to enhance the otherwise minimal weaponry. Finally, The Prowler sports Blood Hunter's Iron Works signature cannon, two forward mounted M.A.R.C. 1s. These Heavy Mass Drivers fire a monstrous six meter long, nine ton slug of solid Titanium. The main drawback to these heavy hitters is that they are built into the very framework of the ship, meaning they can only fire directly forward. Additionally, the limited ammunition supply for these weapons must be taken into consideration. Wise Captains reserve these weapons for delivering the finishing blows to damaged ships, or as part of a volley in conjunction with allied vessels.

[member="Zenva Vrotoa"], just looking at the base template example of the escort frigate, this looks like it's trading some speed and maneuverability for higher defense and weaponry, does that sound about right?

Turret (30) ; Various Positions - Ion Encumbrance Package (10) ; Various Positions
the armament listed is just slightly above that of the template escort frigate, which has an armament rating of 5 . Because of that, I'd recommend changing the armament rating to "6".

More or less, yes.

I've made adjustments to my armament rating and the number of weapons. If my math is right I have half the capital guns, and half the launchers of a heavy frigate and an armament rating to reflect that.

Armament ratings aren't entirely linear in terms of scaling. For example, these are the numbers of the template example for the escort frigate:

Armament:
Rating 5
30 Turbolasers
5 Warhead Launchers
40 Quad lasers
In terms of gun math, this is equivalent to 180 points at an armament rating of 5 (36 points per 1 rating point). If we do a heavy frigates armament, we get 290 points at an armament rating of 16 (~48 points per 1 rating point). Now, the factory as a whole is trying to stay clear of getting too involved in numbers, but rather, we're looking at balance and intent.

Looking at the submission's intent and size, this appears to be a form of an escort frigate, which we have a template example for. But this is pretty far from the template in terms of stats. While it's slower than the template example, it's also significantly more powerful in terms of offense and defense, and it carries a starfighter squadron on top of it. It's also fair to point out that this is slightly larger than the template example. At this time, I do think it needs a decrease or two in its stats to properly balance.

If you do not want to have an armament rating of 6, what would you like to lower instead?
