Hyperdrive Class: None

Strengths:

  • Durability: The Colosseum is capable of soaking up loads of damage and is still capable of functioning even after sustaining critical damage

Weaknesses:

  • Maneuverability: Due to its size and massive weight the station is unable to make smooth maneuvers and is incapable of dodging attacks. It's only form of defense lies in its internal security and squads of starfighters.

  • Speed: Whether in space or in the atmosphere The Pillar of Ascension moves incredibly slow and is a lumbering beast.

  • Light Weapons: The station has very few defensive weapons to protect itself in times of invasion or ect. Unfortunately, most of its defense lies within the military units that guard its interior. The station is designed to host events and tournaments, not hold up in an all out assault.

Description: The Prometheus Colosseum is an enormous space station that was designed by The Awoken in order to house the combative teachings of Sanguine Blade & The House of Judgment. But over time the station has been often opened to the allies of the faction as a sign of good faith, often hosting large tournaments and grand spectacles for the galaxy to enjoy. Taking to the next level of competitive fighting.

The station itself is designed to be massive, with four hangers on each wing to hold tourist and VIP's, as well as a generous housing area for those who desire to spend more time on the station. Almost like a massive hotel, contestants and sponsors of the tournament get penthouse suits while guest normally remain in other parts of the station for housing. The station has a cafeteria, gym, entertainment centers and even bars for those who wish to spectate the events from other sections of the station without being in the stands.

The seating area has an incredibly large capacity, able to accommodate the large crowds of spectators. The red seats closest to the arena itself are apparently reserved for contestants in the tournaments and other VIPs.

Above the seating area are huge holographic screens, which display the competitors for matches, as well as videos of the matches in progress (including action replays). The tournament presenters & commentators sit in a small booth above the top level of the seating area. Their jobs to commentate on the match below with witty comments and ect. It is their jobs to know the details of each complainant such as Name, age, skills, faction (If applicable) and their general story as a way to 'enlighten' the audience.

The audience are protected by a forcefield which prevents projectiles and other objects from leaving the fighting area. When hit, the forcefield is basically a deflector shield designed to protect bystanders. It is capable of preventing flying objects, be it a contestant, chunk of earth, lightsabre, or blasters from being flung into the spectator stands, and is also able to absorb stray slug shots.

The matches themselves take place in a large octagonal arena. The arena is capable of changing its environment into several different "biomes", including grasslands, forest, fire and ice, geyser fields, stormy mountains, desert, an ocean and beach with a wooden ship, and a few others. These effects took an extreme amount of effort to construct as there are several factors that could result in the systems beneath to crumble or malfunction. The arena also has artificial weather effects, such as thunderstorms and an artificial sun. In all matches, the central octagonal part remains the same regardless of the biome. It is noted, that Game Makers are responsible for these weather effects I.E The Force. They use Aspect of The Storm and similar force powers to change and alter certain aspects of the weather by using the biome it is associated with.

When biomes are not active or being used, the fraction of octagon that they are stationed are bulled beneath the ring and reside deep under the station loosely separated by gears and platforms until they are needed once again. In which case a large mechanism is in place that shifts the biomes where they need to go.

Game Makers are able to cause havoc and force contestants to stay on their toes. By causing forest fires, landslides, floods, thunderstorms, quakes, and ect. They can also do things like unleash packs of vicious animals and ect that players much adapt to in order to remain victorious.

During certain rounds, the arena is split evenly into two biomes, which are chosen randomly at the beginning of every fight for each half of the arena. Other times, four biomes are chosen for each fight. In certain biomes, weapons and first aid kits are also scattered around for combatants to use. But when the match becomes one on one, no biomes are chosen, and only the center platform is in bounds. Each biome an vary in size, the reason behind the arenas octagon design is so each chunk can be used (Much like a fraction). Sometimes the entire arena can be one biome, or the arena can be split in half to hold two, four, five. Ect. Each fraction is about half the size of a football stadium in length and a quarter of that size in width. The density of each biome is rather thick, to prevent someone from slashing through a single layer to reveal a metal frame below. Each biome is about thirty meters thick with natural materials that relate to each biome, with mechanisms in place to ensure things imitate natrue realistically. The only biomes are shown below.

  • Forest Biome: One of the more popular biomes, The Forest Biome comes with fresh green grass and tall pine trees decorating its surface. This biome is often favored by those who are use to fighting on planets such as Endor and ect.

  • Mountain Biome: A bit more of a rocky biome, this environment comes with rather tall artificially shaped mountains that reach to the top of the stadium with small ledges and cliffs hanging on their sides. Given the limited space this causes, this biome is only ever selected when the arena is split into two biomes or limited to a single one.

  • Desert Biome: A more basic biome that has layers of sand and spots with quicksand that can sometimes surprise opponents. There are also often larger chunks of rock and even a single sarlacc pit that has had it's teeth and other digestive systems dulled or removed to prevent death. If opponents are swallowed by the pit, they get passed through its digestive track and passed back to the surface out of bounds. Note, the sarlacc has undergone surgery to ensure that contestants do not get digested or die while passing through it.

  • Ocean Biome: This bome is complete with an artificial beach and a large wooden platform in the middle which serves as a raft of sorts. The water is knee deep, but towards the outskirts the water becomes deeper and deeper until it reaches ten feet. Beyond the ten feet mark is the Out of Bounds area.

  • Urban Biome: Complete with concrete and other things one would expect to find in a small city, the Urban Biome has several vacant buildings that are rather small in scale with cameras scattered throughout them. If this biome is selected for the entire arena, there are also restaurants, small shops, and ect.

  • Grassland Biome: A biome that holds several small trees and a lot of tall grass. Excellent for those seeking a quick escape or something to hide themselves so they may stalk their targets.

  • Lava Biome: Similar to an environment found on planets like Mustfar, this biome has gysers, spurts of magma, and ect that can render those within it incapacitated or greatly injured. This biome is dangerous and as a result draws much shock from those placed within it. There are often solid chunks of earth and steel platforms along the biome to prevent unfortunate accidents.

  • Ice Biome: A bit more of a tricky biome, this environment has small icy mountains, snowy surfaces and lots of slippery ice that can keep those who traverse it constantly moving at a slow pace.

This looks conceptually sound, and it's probably among the most interesting submissions that I've seen in a while. We've only got a few things to go over.

I'd change maneuverability and speed to something between 18 - 20 to reflect its lumbering speed. A speed of 5 is probably more appropriate for something like a quick-moving ship that's less than a 100 meters long.

No Weapons: The station does not have its own weapon defenses and it built just for tourist to enjoy themselves. Though it does have squads of starfighters and even heavy security, it cannot protect itself from an assault.
These seem to conflict to me. If the station doesn't have any weaponry, armament rating should be 0. An armament of 5 would still be fine for this submission, since it'd be light defensive weapons like some quad laser cannons or flak cannons.

I have to admit, this seems like a pretty interesting idea. Where are these "stages" kept when not in use, and how do they transition?

Just to clarify, Is the sarlacc is artificial, or is this living sarlacc that has undergone a lot of surgery?

While there is a lot of evidence that artificial environments can be created and controlled in the Star Wars universe, I haven't found any examples where they can easily be changed at a whim. The closest thing I've been able to find is hologram fun world...but that uses hologram technology to accomplish much of the setting changes. Because this stage idea reaches past canon technology norms, I'd like to see a development thread for this (somewhere between 10-20 posts depending on quality).

Its all been edited i think ^^. And the Sarlacc is living and has undergone massive treatment to ensure contestants don't get digested or killed. I edited that in as well.

As for the weather effects. I don't really have anyone to do Dev Threads with so i changed it. Instead of The Arena producing weather effects, instead its the Game Makers who use The Force to do so via Aspect of The Storm & ect.

Weather effects isn't really the issue. There's enough out there in real life and in Star Wars that many of effects could be easily produced. It's the actual terrain component that's the issue.

If there was only one basic type of terrain with no effects(like the forest), this wouldn't be an issue. This issues that are causing this sub to require development are:

1) The mechanics of how the Terrain changes: As far as I know, there haven't been any known instances in which biomes can mechanically changed out in artificial environment without months of work.

2) There are a lot of terrain options that this can change to.

3) Some of these terrains, while possible to replicate, are not easy to do so. The key biomes I'm looking at for this are the lava and ice biomes. Acquiring and maintaining a surgically modified live sarlacc also falls into this category.

If you're intent on not doing development, an alternative would be to the follow the Hologram Fun World model, and use holograms to simulate a variety of environments. The obvious disadvantage of this model is that nothing is actually physical.

Hangar: 5 Fractal Starfighter Squads
I missed this before, but please change this to 3 squadrons, the max for its size class.
