Potential Allies

Coruscant, Level 1313 – Safe House over the Rottin’ Bantha

He may not seek out bounties, he despised bounty hunters at all cost, but that did not stop him from keeping tabs on those that ended up with credits on their heads. This one that just came across the bounty hunter guild channels intrigued him. A Mando’ade, apparently had did something an Imperial didn’t like or he bite the hand that fed him. Either way this amused him and he wanted to find this Mando’ade and reach out…offer his blade in aide along with toss out his own agenda for allegiance perhaps.

Viktor turned towards the holo terminal within the cockpit of the modified Star Yacht, keying in the search for one Vilaz Munin, sending out a basic, short message of “Contact me” including an encrypted holo frequency. Holo-net time was expensive and he wouldn’t pay for more than he had to. If this man contacted him, he’d then give him coordinates for a meet, if he didn’t contact him he’d move on and search for another potential ally.

Koda was doing what she always did; trying her best to survive. She had been cornered in the Rottin' Bantha but three men, trying to have a piece of her. She thought she had done a good enough job blowing them off in the bar, but they had followed her outside, pushing her into a dead-end road. They glowered down at her, baring their teeth with sickening grins. The gleam in their eyes told her they were undressing her and she shuddered. She raised her fists in front of her face. "You better back off." She growled, taking a step back and into a defensive stance. The soon-to-be assaulters laughed, lunging forward to grab her. She ducked under their arms, bringing her leg up sharply to slam her knee into one man's lower region. He howled and jumped back, and Koda sidestepped to smash her elbow into the side of another man's head. He stumbled, but those two had done their jobs as a distraction. The third man slipped up, grabbing Koda by her sensitive horns and throwing her to the ground. He jumped on her, straddling her body, as Koda tried to land a punch. She flicked her right wrist slightly and there was a clicking sound. She threw another punch as the gauntlet around her right wrist activated, launching two blaster shots into the man's head.

He collapsed on top of her and Koda pulled herself out from under his body, getting up and raising her fists again. "Who's next?"

Jim had been walking towards his favorite bar on Coruscant, the Angry Acklay. When suddenly he heard a commotion in a small alley. Jim pulled out one of his blasters. He looked around the corner. it was a lone Togruta female surrounded by 3 either dead or unconscious men, he couldn't tell but one of their chests were smoking. The woman spoke out.

"Who's next?" She spoke out.

Jim looked around seeing if anybody else was around. he slowly raised his arms as he entered

"I hope that was rhetorical, my dear. because I'm the only person around here and I certainly have no intention to fight the lass who killed these three blokes."

Jim lowered his arms so he could take off his jacket, and put his hand out to give it to the women.

"It's a cold night," Jim said with a smirk. "Plus I think you got some blood on you, however I doubt it's yours. Not a good idea to let law enforcement see you like that," He said looking down at the three men the Togruta had just defeated.

Zai cursed to himself. Cheated yet again, he was making a habit of it. Desperate for work, Zai had agreed to repair the ventilation of the Red Serpent, a seedy establishment that he didn't want to know too much about. Ventilation was a loose word however, it was more like a rusty pipe that had been used to siphon off the air conditioning from next door.

Zai was currently in this pipe, clanging around trying to find the source of the blockage. He was in the section that connected the two buildings, the pipe suspended over an alley. He crawled a bit further and found the source of the problem. The other building's residents obviously had found out about the siphoning and had blocked it off. To make matter worse it looks that they'd begun detacting the pipe from the wall, the inside supports were only hanging by two nails.

Zai cursed even louder. This pipe could collapse at any minute. He needed to get out of here, tell his employer that he could shove the payment up his~ *CRREEEEEAK* The pipe was making a loud creaking noise. Zai froze, a bead of sweat rolling down his forehead. He'd have to make small movements, take it nice and slo~

*CRASH*

The bottom of the pipe gave way and Zai plummeted like a rock. He fell 4 metres and landed on something soft. He groaned and rolled over, looking at his surroundings. A Togruta female and a Human Male stood over him, staring in shock. He looked down at what his was lying on. It was a man, dead. His fall must have smashed the man's head open, two gaping wounds lay across his head.

"Oh god, oh god, oh god". Zai sucked in deep breaths. He turned to the Togruta. "I didn't mean to kill him, I swear! It was an accident!" He notices the blood on her clothes. "I didn't mean to hurt you neither! Please, It was an accident!"

This was bad, he had to get away. He stumbles backward but collides with the other man in the alley and gets knocked onto his back. Was this the end of his future? He was too young to go to jail. 'I've got to think of a way out of this...' He thought.

Koda jumped back in shock when a man approached, offering her his coat. "They were threatening me," she instantly jumped to a defense, knowing how guilty she looked. Was he going to attack her, bring her to the guard? "I did it out of self-defense. Do you know what they would have done if they were allowed to live?" Typical of men, violating women without a second thought, but as soon as she fights back, she's instantly the bad guy. What was Koda supposed to do? Just stand there and take it?

Over her heated anger, she hardly noticed something above her creak and groan. What she did notice was the boy falling from the sky and landing on her kill. "It's raining men," she muttered, watching him flounder around all panicked. A grin formed on her grey lips. He was kinda cute.

"Hey, hey, hey," she said calmly, crouching down in front of him. "It's okay. You're not in trouble." She glanced back at Moustache Man. "I probably am." She looked back at Zai. "You didn't kill that man, I did. He was threatening my life and I acted out of self-defence." Just to clear things up. Didn't want both men running around to call the cops on her together. "Tell me your name, little one."

"They were threatening me," The Togruta said immediately defending herself. "I did it out of self-defense. Do you know what they would have done if they were allowed to live?" Jim knew. The Coruscant underworld is a dark and terrible place.

"Doll, I don't blame you, you're on the most sick, twisted world in the galaxy. That being said, I've met some terrible people here, for example once tried to help a woman who claimed to be taken advantage of, turns out she just used that story to put my guard down And rob me blind. That being said please excuse me for my skepticism, I have trust issues."

Jim put his jacket over the Togruta's shoulders. Just as he was about to ask the Togruta if she wanted to get outta here a man and a pipe fell seemingly from nowhere. The pipe crushed the dead man's skull.

"Bloody hell, kid" Jim said as he had been standing near the falling kid. The kid started babbling his mouth about how he didn't mean it and the Togruta seemed to try to calm him down. Jesus that's two kids he had get outta here,.

"The noise of that fall is going to be causing some attention to this area, you two should probably come with me." Jim said, Jim didn't really care if they did or not, but Jim was trying to be nice.

Zai breathed a sigh of relief. He knew his luck was bad, but it wasn't THAT bad.

Zai gritted his teeth as his mood completely reversed. Why did this always have to happen? "I'm not a kid! I'm nineteen! I have my own ship for goodness sake!". He sucked in great gulps of air, still winded from his fall. A wave of embarrassment washed over him. That tantrum would do nothing more than then reinforce her view. When will his big mouth stop getting him in trouble?

"I'm Zai Avery, sorry for being so rude miss" Zai said, addressing the Togruta. "I was working next door when, uhhhh, I had an accident". He stared down at the broken pipe. The man behind him cleared his throat.

Zai could begin to hear angry yelling coming from the Red Serpent. Wouldn't be long before they would find out he'd broken their vents even more. Then maybe they would even force Zai to pay.

Zai nodded emphatically to the man and followed him out of the alley.

Koda flinched slightly when the jacket was placed on her, then relaxed, shifting it around her shoulders to better fit around her bulging head. "Thanks," she didn't glance back at him, keeping her focus on the boy in front of her. She was thankful for the older man's service in keeping her out of trouble. She was just about to get up and follow him when the boy in front of her lashed out. She blinked, then her hand shot out, grabbing a fistful of his hair and slamming his head back into the wall. "I don't have to be nice, you know." She growled, blue eyes turning into slits. She brought her fist back, her gauntlet unfolding into blaster mode. "I could leave you like these men here, but..." She lowered her hand and loosened her grip, ruffling his hair. "You're too cute."

Standing, she turned to Jim, nodding. "Let's go." She followed him before glancing back at Zai and smiled. "Sorry if I hurt you. How else would you learn? It's a cruel world out here. I'm Koda." She turned back to Jim, scanning him. He didn't seem threatening but he could be leading them into a trap. "Where are you taking us?" Sure he gave her his coat and didn't tell the guard on her, but she didn't know if she could trust him. She didn't really trust anyone anyway.

"Play nice, children." Jim said, as the fiery Togruta had finished introducing herself. she then asked Jim about where they were taking them, Jim hadn't even thought about it, his fatherly instincts had kicked in.

However by the time they got to the edge of the answer. "and as of right now I'm escorting you to the kid's ship. Forgot to mention my name's Jim, Jim Pehico." Jim said looking back at the two. "Anyways, you best get off world for at least a couple rotations."

As the three walked down the dark underworld alleys, Jim took out a small flask from his pocket and took a sip from it. "Lum, either of you kids drink?" Jim said handing back the flask to the two. after the two replied and/or take a sip, Jim wasn't really paying attention, he put it back in his pocket.

"So, doll," Jim said looking at her, "what line of work taught you how to take out 3 larger men."

Jim had already known the answer to the question, he was just trying to keep the kids minds off of the incident that occurred back in that alley, if they didn't look guilty, they weren't guilty, he was doing it mostly for the boy's sake.

Trusting these two might be the smartest idea, but greater risks had paid off for him. Besides, he'd come close to having his head blown open just a moment ago and now every shadow in every alley was making him nervous.

He led Jim and the Togruta (who he learned was named Koda) through the streets towards his ship. Jim offered Zai a swing from a small hip-flask. The liquid burned down his throat and he tried to pass off his choking sound with a sideways cough.

Ducking through another alley, Zai pulled the group towards the local docking area. Jim was talking to Koda and Zai phased out as he listened to them.

"Is it really that serious?" Koda rolled her eyes in disbelief. "I took out some guys in the lower circles of Coruscant. Big deal. This stinkhole probably gets a few dozen murders a week, what's so bad about three more?" This was really taking it to the extreme. It made her wonder just what else this guy took to the extreme, or if he always blew things out of proportion and overexaggerated things. He asked about her profession, and she crossed her arms. She really couldn't say, it was all to illegal. "Had to survive on my own from a young age, went on to be a hired hand." It technically was all true, but just not the full story. She glanced over at Zai, coughing and spluttering on the Lum and she laughed, her voice a high-pitched medley of trills. "Don't choke now. I heard it was bad for your health." She fell back to walk next to Zai, noticing how he was phasing out of the conversation.

"Do you know this guy for him to be leading us to your ship?" She put her hand on his arm, squeezing a little to make sure he was with her. She had to find out Jim's deal, what he wanted out of her.

Now that the man had introduced himself, Zai realised he did know him. They had done a job together with The Crimson Devil Cartel on Nar Shaddaa. He glanced over to Jim and a look of understanding passed between them. Better to keep quiet about this. The Boss would have wanted us to be subtle when we were off-planet.

"I have no idea, first time I've met him"

He thought he saw Koda's eyes squint. He cleared his throat and quickly changed the topic. "The ship's just around the corner!"

They strode out of an alley onto a disused landing pad. "Heh, not the fanciest spot to land, sorry, but my landing permits are out of date" He walked to the bottom of his ship, looked up and admired it. It was a Ju-99 Rescue and Recovery Vessel, heavily modifed to pick apart wrecks in the vacuum of space. It was also a piece of junk, sporting large sections of rust and decay. But it was his piece of junk, and he was very proud of it.

The ship hadn't changed in the couple of hours he had been gone, except for one notable exception. A fuel pipe was attached to the underside of the ship. This was strange, as the pipe usually was usually attached on the side.

Fighting a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach; Zai ran over to the pipe. Someone had breached his fuel tank and siphoned off his fuel. He followed the fuel pipe, but found that the other end was already detached. A trail of fuel droplets led away from the pipe, suggesting the thieves had only just left.

Zai walked back to Jim and Koda, dejected. "Not going anywhere" he mumbled. "Someone's stolen my fuel".

Jim had recognized the kids ship when he parked. It was right next to his, Jim was surprised that the kid didn't want the kid to know about the Cartel so Jim kept it to himself, Turns out the kid's junker was stolen from.

"Damn it kid don't you have a droid or something to keep an eye on the ship?" Jim said slightly irritated. "The way I see it, we've got to confront those thieves and take the fuel back from them." Jim said making sure his blaster's charged.

"Unless you want to take my ship off-world for a couple days and let the heat die down. Whatever you kids prefer." Jim said drinking out from his flask.

Zai sighed a deep sigh, this wasn't the best day for him. Marcus would have been disappointed in him, leaving his ship exposed like that. "GR-8 is programmed to hide when there are hostiles in the area, he wouldn't have stopped them". He turned to Koda. "The truth is: Jim and I do know each other, we did a job together on Nar Shaddaa. The thing is, it wasn't strictly legal and I don't like to go spreading that kind of information around".

"I still have some money left over from the job, I'll use that to refuel and I have some spare scrap decent enough to patch the hole". He'd have to make sure every penny was his as well, because B'kik would froth at the mouth if he dipped even a little bit into the Cartel funds. He just wished he hadn't spent the majority of the money on that lightsaber crystal this morning. But hopefully that would pay off when he sold it onto someone else.

"Look Koda, the security force on Coruscant don't look kindly on killing people, even in self-defence. So you can grab a lift with me until it all blows over".

He looked over to Jim and shook his hand. "Good to see you again Jim, good luck on your travels and go easy on the drink maybe?" He winked at the older man, grinning.

After several hours the ship was patched enough for space travel and refueled. GR-8 was sitting in the co-pilot's seat. "We have a passenger" he said in a slightly inquisitive tone. "Just for a little while until she gets settled, ok?" Zai replied.

The droid motioned to the monitor. "There was a major battle in the corellian sector" he said. "Seeing as we are now out of money it seems like a good opportunity to make up funds".

Zai grinned, plugged in the coordinates and took off into the night.

Now Koda was really pissed. She wasn't mad at the fuel being stolen, as unfortunate as that may be. She was upset that this guy with the pedophile mustache was so insistent on getting them off-world. Usually, when she killed people, she just slipped away and hid in one of the many nooks and crannies she had preselected, or just disappeared into the crowd. "I'm not a kid, I'm twenty." She shot at Jim, narrowing her eyes. When Zai told her he worked with this guy before and was even agreeing they needed to go, Koda turned on him. It really felt like she had just been betrayed by people she didn't even know. She wasn't even sure if she liked them. Zai was appearing less cute as this all went on.

"Fine then, Pornstache," she raised her hands in defeat, her voice full of incredulous exasperation. "Next time I'm outnumbered and cornered in a dark alley, I'll just be the fragile little girl you think I am and let them do whatever they want to me. Is that better?" Turning, she stormed into Zai's ship, glancing towards the droid who seemed less thrilled that she was here than she did, if that was possible. The airlock closed behind her and she slumped against the wall, sliding down to sit on the ground. She did not want to be here anymore.

"Maybe Zai, but probably not." Jim chuckled.

Jim walked over to Koda and put his hand on her shoulder. "I know you can take care of yourself, you're a young adult. That being said, There are just some people you can't fight alone. And as for you being a fragile little girl? You know I don't believe that. You are more of a warrior than I ever have or will be." Jim sipped his lum. "I know it doesn't seem like it now but I'm doing what's best for you. And as for the Jacket? You can keep it." Jim gsve her a smile, but his eyes told another story.

Jim walked away as the kids walked onto the freighter. Sure he and Koda hadn't left on the best of terms, and she insulted his moustache, she was going to be fine. As for Zai well, good kid, he wished him luck. Jim walked out of the hangar reminiscing to himself.

"Pornstache?" Jim muttered as he felt his moustache.

He knew one of those three men from the alley, he didn't want to say anything to freak those two out, but the man Zai landed on with the pipe, he was one of the chief lieutenants of the Black Sun on Coruscant. He prayed for his and those two's sake that there wasn't any evidence of Zai and Koda in that alley. Jim took out his flask and began sipping it. Those kids were on their own now. Jim wondered how he's lasted this long in such a cold, unforgiving, galaxy. The lowly, mustachioed, scoundrel decided to spend another lonely night, drowning his sorrow and worries away, at least for tonight he won't have to be bothered with those feelings.
