ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • HIMS
  • Ventral proton beam cannon: The proton beam cannon has two modes: single-reactor ignition, which requires two posts to deploy, fire and retract, and full-power ignition, which requires four posts to activate the same sequence

Strengths:
  • Fight Fire with Fire - Designed with the intention of creating a counter-balance to similar ships utilized by the Galaxy's Imperial factions, the Potentate-class features a vast array of firepower, along with a large number of ion cannons and point defence weaponry, allowing it to excel in fleet engagements, allowing it to hold its own even when surrounded by a handful of smaller frigates. Further based on former Imperial designs and other major modern capital ships, the Potentate-class utilizes a proton beam cannon, too weak to destroy celestial bodies, the beam is capable of heavily damaging other capital ships, and destroying smaller cruisers with full-powered shots.
  • Learn From Their Mistakes - With a reasonable number of Ion Cannons, the Potentate-class excels at taking down shielding and other crucial ship systems, allowing them to be weak and exposed before the proton-beam cannon can be utilized. Similarly, the ship's Proton Beam Cannon is Ventral and Retractable into the ship, to protect it from damage.
  • Ability to penetrate interdiction fields - With its HIMS, the Potentate-class can penetrate interdiction fields, making its job easier to perform when facing gravitational traps
Weaknesses:
  • Hole in the Heart - To make room for the ship's Retractable Proton Beam Cannon, considerable room on the Star Defender's Ventral side had to be removed to accompany the weapon, including its primary hangar bay, as such - it relies on its port and starboard hangar bays primarily, and has a reduced complement of deployable ships as a result.
  • Hail Mary - Firing the ship's Proton Beam at full power draws an incredible amount of strength from the Potentate's other systems, draining shields, weapons and engines. As a result, the ship is often left exposed to counter-attacks after it fires at full power.
  • Fire Rate - The time that the Potentate's proton beam cannon takes to deploy and fire is significant. The majority of the time is taken up by the deployment of the weapon itself, considering the fact it is retractable. For a 'single reactor ignition' the ship takes two posts to deploy, fire, and retract the weapon. For a 'full power ignition' the ship takes four posts to do the same. In this time, the ship can acquire a precise lock on the target, but the weapon itself and a section of the ship's internal structure is exposed to attack, as one of the ship's weaker areas.
  • Slow Mover - As is common among ships of the same class as the Potentate, it has a below-average maneuverability, and is slow comparatively to many other star destroyers and star defenders.
  • Exposed bridge tower - As was discovered in the Metharian Nebula when the Incandescent Truth was first deployed, the Potentate-class command tower is a liability since, unlike the ventral proton beam, it remains exposed and hence is a prime target for enemy commanders
Description: After the infamous final flight of the prototype, the Incandescent Truth, over Dagobah, the Alliance's resources were devoted to fighting the various enemies of the Light, including but not limited to, the First Order, and the Potentate-class project did not see much progress, nor production. But the wake-up call to get the project finished came on Ossus, upon the Sith Empire deploying the Behemoth in its first operational sortie. In effect, it allowed the GA to harvest additional kyber crystals on Tython, Lothal and Devaron, with a different proton beam design since the proton beam was the main cause of the delays in producing multiple units of the Potentate-class, but that nevertheless uses kyber crystals in the focusing arrays. In addition, some of the remaining weapons were rearranged to allow for better aft coverage, as well as a HIMS, given the First Order's proclivity to use gravitational traps in battle.

As a result of the weapons rearranging, the Potentate-class is even slower than its infamous prototype, and, thanks to the space taken up by the proton beam cannon, its cargo capacity, as well as ability to carry troops, suffer: its ability to support planetary or system campaigns is not nearly as good as those of other ships in its class size. In addition, its specialized nature requires a Potentate to be deployed with escorts: four squadrons of attack craft may not be enough or appropriate.

Consumables: 3 years
Crew: 12,000
Passengers: 2,000
Cargo capacity: 50,000 tons

NOTE: PCs may decide if the Proton-Beam hits their ships, and the extent of damage. This rule works identically to the GE's Silencer

Production: Limited (2 per writer)
Productions are a little bit different now with the factory update. From the template:
Production: The scale is Unique (Only One Character), Semi-Unique (Maximum of 10 characters), Limited (Only one small group of characters. IE: Small task force, not entire factions.), Minor (Large groups of characters. (IE: Multiple factions, companies, or groups.), Mass-Produced. (Anyone.) Characters refer to NPCs & PCs. For production limitations on who can make what, please see For more details see the Star Ship rules)))
Because of this, I think it might be easier to either move this up to semi-unique or lower it to minor production if you don't have specific units you plan on using this with the Galactic Alliance or Silver Jedi. Alternatively, you could keep limited production if we reference certain units.
