SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Port Taraven
  • Classification: Urban Center
  • Location: Castellum
  • Affiliation: N/A
  • Population: Insignificant, roughly 50,000
  • Demographics: 70% Human, 30% othet
  • Wealth: Low, For ddecades the only income was from whatever the pirates ruling the planet brought in. Most of the average citizens lived in forced labor with no pay. When the pirates were driven off, mining and tibanna gas production resumed. Now income is slowly working its way up.
  • Stability: Medium, The city originally had low stability, being run by pirates and all. Now that it's under now rule stability has increased. Laws were placed to protect the citizens and a marshal oversees the local police force.
  • Freedom & Oppression: Originally a very oppressed city while under pirate rule. Now Port Taraven is seeing a boom in freedoms from speech to expressing culture and religion. The only laws that cause oppression are ones that prevent harm to other beings.
  • Description: Port Taraven was once a First Order mining facility before the Gulag plague. A large fortress sits on the edge of the city and serves as its capital building. The original mining facility sits beyond that on the very outskirts of the city itself. The city itself was built much like the cities Tatooine, brown earthen buildings supported by metal structures, winding streets lined with stores and merchants. Banners of all varieties and collected hang from buildings and poles. What was once an oppressed city under the rule of pirates, is now coming to life with a growing culture of its own.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Taraven Keep: This large fortress was originally built by the First Order when they arrived on the planet. The structure served not only for defense but to house both workers and soldiers. Freighters would land on the upper section of the structure to load ore, while fighters and troop transports were housed in the inner hangar. All this was overseen by the command tower positioned at the end of the upper landing platforms. When the First Order collapsed, Taraven Keep remained partially abandoned until it was taken over by pirates and used as their stronghold. When the pirates were removed, Taraven Keep once again become the guardian structure of Port Taraven.

The Sandpit: A once unruly gambling and fighting arena, the Sandpit is now a place to unwind after a long day of work. Situated at the edge of town on the main route leading to the mines, the pit is were most miners and pilots end up at the end of the day.

Scargo mines: Who the mines are named or where it got the name is unknown, but to the locals the only thing that matters is that the mines keep digging up ore. Tunnels from Scargo stretch into the mountain side and deep into the ground. Large elevators and conveyer belts bring the ore to the surface before its loaded onto freighters. As of now, Scargo is the biggest employer in Port Taraven.

Tibanna gas facility: A relatively new building on Castellum. This tibanna gas processing facility was originally built before the planet was taken over by pirates, who used the facility to store reserve fuel. Located a good distance from the city itself, this facility is once again being used to process fuel. Tibanna gas is transported by a series of pipes to its destination, mainly the landing pads on the outskirts of the city.

SECURITY
Medium, Port Taraven is primarily protected by a local militia. Seeing as the city itself is the only populated section of the planet, it currently can't afford a standing army. What keeps Port Taraven safe is the fact that the planet Castellum doesn't appear on any star chart. This allowed the pirates who claimed this place to easily hide from law enforcement. The lack of good coordinates to the planet makes it difficult for those wishing to do them harm to find the planet in the first place.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Port Taraven was built by the First Order before the time of the Gulag plague. A combination of both a mining facility and a fortress. Ore of all types were brought up from the mines and shipped from the fortress itself. After the collapse of the First Order, Port Taraven was all but abandoned. A small handful of miners remained to try and strike a fortune, but with little success as the Gulag plague struck and closed off most of their trade. Several hundred years later, the planet of Castellum was discovered by pirates. These pirates drove the inhabitants of Port Taraven out of their fortress and took it over. The citizens began to build around the fort itself, as they had nowhere else to go. Over time the small shanty town grew into a larger city. A city that was strongly oppressed by pirates for generations. When the pirates were overthrown and new freedoms reached the people, a cultural and economic boom began to rise throughout the city.

I love this submission! Very nice and detailed yet easy to read with a fairly simple concept! I can't wait to see how it develops in the future! There is one very minor snag that I would like to see addressed however.

In Affiliations you have linked a character, but I don't see any references to said character in the submission itself. Is Alara the city governor? The Militia leader? Just an influential citizen or outsider? Some addition of who she is to the people of Port Taraven is needed, but after that you will be good to go!
