Places to start...

Ooookay, been a long time since I've posted here, so, I might as well just get on with it (and to apologize beforehand, if this forum was the wrong place to post a query like this, then I am sorry, but upon looking at the forum descriptions, this seems like the most proper place).

To put it simply. I am at a *complete* loss as to where to -begin- on this site. Where is a good place for someone, a *complete* newbie to start off his character?

Well,-slight- correction; technically my character has ALREADY begun, but since what I would consider his effective 'origin' story (my first ever post), relies on someone -else- finishing it off (she knows who she is, if she happens to read this)-- i.e. the first meeting between my chara and the Dark Lord of the Sith who will end up taking him as her apprentice; the problem lies in the fact that it hasn't BEEN finished yet (and pretty much his whole bio centers on the fact of him finding her, meaning FOR that meeting to start his whole career as a Force-user...which he doesn't actually know that he IS yet). And maybe that was a bad character creation choice on my part, but it just feels *wrong*, posting with a character whose 'origin' (or at least intended origin) is left unfinished.

Essentially, I'm left with the problem of playing a character who is meant to BE a Sith...without the interaction having lead to him BECOMING a Sith ever happening (and unless I miss my guess, to play as a new Force user of a faction WITHOUT having your own Master is Something Not Allowed).

So, MY question is...where can I use this character, and what can I DO with him? In short, where is a good place for someone who is looking to get his feet wet in RPing on this board to start? (Probably a stupid question, I know, but I actually like to know what I am -doing- before I just jump into things headfirst.)

Again, anyone who could help me with this would have my deepest, most sincere gratitude.

1. Welcome.
2. You can finish your RP by yourself. Just add a last entry as your character, narrating and summing up the closing actions. Easy as pie. Or, ignore it completely and assume stuff happened. We do this all the time.
3. As a note on reality, 50% of your threads will die and never finish. This is life. Get used to it. Work around it. Use a system.
4. You can totally RP without a Master. Training is not required on this website. Remember to read the rules about Ranks and Promotions. Also. Here. Read this.
5. Let your Faction help you find a starting place. Dominion threads and Light RP are perfect for this.
6. Sans faction, start a new thread in the Roleplay Discussion forums asking for easy interactions. You'll get 10 replies in a day.

And lastly,

7. Your success as a writer is based completely upon your own imagination and your own personal initiative. Don't overthink it. There are no wrong answers. Do what moves you. :D

Hello, and welcome!

First and foremost, you may start just about anywhere you'd like. But that's a fairly dumb answer because it doesn't help you with any specifics. So, with that said, to give you some options given what you included in your post:

1) You can find someone else to finish off your origin story. That's always an option. There are numerous Sith (or Light Side) masters here that may be willing to help.

2) You can start RPing as if the origin story is already complete and go back and finish it when time/circumstances permit. The actual flow of time on this forum is fairly fluid, meaning you can participate in various RPs that may happen concurrently or in the past or in the future, within limit. We don't typically require you to maintain a single timeline for your character, unless it becomes a problem (e.g. Your character is an Apprentice but in another thread you RP him as a Master.).

3) You can create an NPC to finish your origin story.

4) You don't need to have a Master. It's not required. It's only highly encouraged, especially if you want to advance up the Force ranks. But even without a Master, it is possible; it just requires you to use an NPC master and lots of quality RP that shows your character has developed. It's a bit more challenging because without a PC Master, there's no one else to vouch for your character.

I hope this helps! Please feel free to tag me if you have more questions!
