STRENGTHS- Miniaturized Particle Beam Cannon
The PL-10M combines the rapid-fire nature of point defense technology with state-of-the-art miniaturized particle beam cannon technology. The result of this marriage is the rapid delivery of high-charge particle beams, which explode on impact with shield systems and heavy armor. Direct hits can eviscerate such defenses, and as a secondary effect, cause a super-charged area of effect energy burst capable of disrupting the shield and electronic systems of neighboring craft; such as bombers or fighters flying in formation. This effectively mimics the same type of disruption caused by flak bombardments, but in the package of a point defense battery. - Versatile
Mirroring GDI’s utilitarian approach to design, the PL-10M has a variety of versatile applications. It can be mounted aboard capital ships as part of its point-defense array, as star-base defensive emplacements, and via its repulsorlift tow assembly - it can also be used as a field anti-aircraft emplacement. When deployed in the field, it can also be used as a serviceable anti-vehicle weapon; proving effective against light troop carriers, medium assault vehicles, and even battle tanks at varying degrees. - Very Accurate & Easy to Use
With its suite of highly advanced target acquisition and tracking systems, smartgunner chipset, capacitor components, and streamlined mechanical design; the PL-10M is extremely accurate, even against fast-moving targets. The DB-SR01x Powerslave Droid Brain further allows for efficient use of manpower, facilitating tactical flexibility both aboard capital ships and on the field.
WEAKNESSES- Large & Heavy
Although the repulsorlift tow assembly assists with keeping this platform mobile in the field, it is still rather heavy, and requires either a vehicle to move it in place with ease; or considerable manpower to slowly push/pull it. Further, its overall mass is approximately 1.33 times larger than standard point-defense counterparts. While this is not prohibitive, it is still a factor to consider during starship/vehicle/base emplacement design. - Energy Drain
Due to the intense demand particle cannon technology places on energy systems, it is imperative to pair this weapon system with an adequate power supply when used in any great quantity. Single units used as towed emplacements come with a miniaturized version of the GDE-01 Antimatter Reactor Core, which in and of itself presents risks given the potential for reactor core compromise. Shielding and armor paneling is used around the mini-reactor chamber to mitigate this risk, but the risk is still a reality. - “Ammunition Capacity”
Although the miniaturization of particle cannon technology is revolutionary, it is not without limitations. The PL-10M does not consume ammunition quite the same as other weapon systems do, given the way particle weapons are designed; but there is still a noteworthy limitation in ammo capacity in the form of tibanna gas. While all turbolaser platforms consume tibanna gas to create ionized tibanna plasma as their main delivery system for destruction, particle cannons consume more of this gas. Combined with the PL-10M’s high rate of fire, the result is a constant need for fresh canisters wherever this weapon system is deployed. The same applies to the railgun slugs it launches, requiring regular magazine replacement.

The “Stormwall” - the moniker chosen by GDI’s marketing department - combines traditional point defense cannon design with miniaturized particle beam cannon technology. The result is a deadly marriage between the characteristic rapid-fire nature of a point defense weapon, with the area-denial coverage typically associated with flak cannon emplacements.
