SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Able to rapidly deploy ablative armor over the surface of a warship if needed, the Phalanx can ensure ships’ and crews’ survivability even without shield functions for a time, using liquid to solid-state fast-hardening deployment system.

STRENGTHS:
  • Can be rapidly deployed over an entire ship or specific sections as desired – including set to automatic deployment if wanted – to provide renewed protection within eleven seconds’ time.
  • Offers extreme protection to most commonly encountered weapons or damage types for limited duration/damage, enabling ships and their crews to have time to escape or potentially withstand destruction during a crash scenario.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Offers no protection against Force-based attacks.
  • Able to provide only minimal protection against sonic weaponry and elemental, corrosive, or biological damage.
  • Not capable of indefinite use, nor meant as a primary armor system, it can offer protection against extreme direct hits by energy weapons, kinetic weapons, or EMP/Ion, but cannot more than just a very few before beginning to weaken.
  • Can only be used once in any given engagement, providing just enough protection to allow a ship to escape further damage or endure a crash landing. Once used, it must be replaced during a refit at a fully-enabled repair facility by capable technicians and cannot be replaced in the field, particularly in combat, due to this being a complex and time-consuming effort.
DESCRIPTION:
Phalanx is exactly what it says it is: A rapid-deployment ablative armor, used in emergency situations, to offer ships and their crews a means to escape to safety or else to potentially avoid or mitigate damage from a crash-type scenario. Deploying from a liquid state and hardening into place in mere seconds, Phalanx can withstand one or two devastating blows from very heavy weapons or a short barrage from less powerful weapons, enough time to jump away to hyperspace, or else can take a great deal of damage in a crash scenario, leaving the ship potentially intact enough for it to survive (at least hopefully most of its crew).
