[SIZE=9pt]While handheld kinetic weapons may not be the most common weapons in the galaxy, the concept and working of them took a strong interest from Domeric Perisa while he developed personal weaponry for himself, in particular the work that EODD had done in the field. Settling on a fairly large 11.5x40mm electrothermal round the PCH-11.5 hits the target as hard as it kicks when firing, delivering a peak projectile velocity of 2.5km/s on shooting. This allows it to penetrate all but the densest types of personal armor and deal catastrophic damage to soft tissue. The plasma charge used to propel the rounds also apply a low-grade ionic charge which, while nowhere near as powerful as dedicated ion weaponry or even certain blaster types, can cause light disruption to mechanical targets.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=9pt]All this power comes at a cost, however, primarily in the weight and recoil. The substantial recoil is only the sum of several parts dedicated to keeping the weapon usable, including an inertial compensator that when triggered by firing the weapon diverts much of the recoil into the microrepulsor, which then acts to push downward and keep it manageable. In addition the recoil is utilized to chamber the next round from the magazine, similar to conventional slugthrowers, though another issue is the capacity of its magazines, which are extremely limited in comparison to more common blaster weaponry.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=9pt]Another major benefit is that it can fit just about any type of electrothermal ammunition so long as it’s of the proper measurements for the magazines and chamber. This includes dedicated armor penetrators, explosive and incendiary rounds, or various custom loads to fit a particular circumstance. [/SIZE]
