Description: The Gamma Corvette is an overhaul of the dated Beta Cruiser. A nimble and fast corvette, its defensible enough to act as an effective blockade runner, a troop transport, and boarding craft. Its predecessor's design was streamlined and altered to accommodate these purposes, making it trade overall firepower for versatility due to its intended purpose as a support ship. It lacks a fighter bay and thus cannot serve as a carrier. Instead, it has orbital insertion pods that are meant to be dropped from low-orbit to the surface of a planet containing both Hapan Space Marines and/or Cyborg Warriors and a their equipment. Vehicles of various types were also able to be dropped, alternatively.

Different pod sizes are available for different mission needs:

24 Single pods = 24 troops (usually for recon or small garrisons)
12 Squad-Pods = 72 troops (Tactical ground assaults)
6 Assault pods = 6 vehicles or 120 troops (for total war)

It is lightly armed with a modest armament meant for anti-fighter and additional supplemental firepower support while a bit more of the ship's power was focused on the redundant shield layering to keep the ship intact during blockade running or boarding actions. The ship turned out to be cheaper to produce than the older predecessor and quickly phased out the now retired Beta Cruiser.

This is a total of 24 capital guns on a ship that is allowed 8.

10 point defense lasers = 10

on a ship that is allowed 6

Since it is minor we can push it a bit but not alot. You have drop pods which limits the amount of weapons you can have also.

Normally I would allow up to 12 capital guns if it is an assault variant. Which this is close enough. but this also limits defense guns.

As it has no warhead launchers I usually allow 1 capital gun per 4 warhead launchers as this can have 6 wahead launchers in the assualt variant i will round up to 2.

So I will allow up to 16 capital and 6 defense or 12 capital and the 10 defense guns.

I would suggest you drop the ion cannons to singles. giving you 12 cap guns and keep the 10 defense guns.

If you are wanting a heavy Ion Cannon weapon load then take the turbolaser to 4 single mounts or reduce them to 2 duals and do either 4 dual or 2 quad ion cannons. IF you just wanting it to be a heavy weapon load and want to go down to the 6 point defense lasers then go 3 quad ions and 2 dual turbolasers or 4 dual turbolasers and 2 quad ions.

all thats being said from the description it seems like an assault ship so I recommend making it faster. normal speed for a ship this big is around 7 I would recommend making this a 4 since your maneuvering is a 10. You want to get to and from orbit and out of the way of trouble as fast as possible.

I would change this to Fast straight line speed and take out the maneuverable part since you have it as a 10.

then list poor maneuvering as a weakness. assault ships are all about dropping in as fast as possible. Maneuvering generally doesn't come into play when moving in to drop troops. also make a note that it is limited to 6 drop pods. either single light vehicle/walker or squad sized. this allows you to drop platoon sized force with 2 light walkers or tanks as support. Any more and we would have to cut weapons alot.

wow... I overestimated.... will fix.If there is a guideline to help with balancing beforehand? it would help to minimise edits, but I think I can work with what you're suggesting.

To clarify, 6 drop pods total and this results in each pods containing one soldier each or are you suggesting a 6-marine squad in each pod? I'll need to work out the numbers properly and figure out order of battle to work with them.

Think of a drop pod as a drop ship. IF your wanting single or double occupancy drop pods then you can have more. You refereed to vehicle drop pods as well. Normally a vehicle drop pod is about the same size as a squad drop pod. As this is a corvette size ship the 6 pods I was meaning could hold either a light walker like an at-st or a light vehicle like a T1b tank. or up to 20 troops each.

If you wanting single pods then you could get 24 of those. You get more bang for you buck with the bigger ones. 24 to 48 troops in 24 pods compared to 120ish in 6 pods.

If you wanting a 6 man pod that's entirely possible. I could see a ship like this having 12 of those.but they would not be big enough for vehicles in place of troops at that size.

kk. Well using that guideline, I COULD do that. I'll have to detail the particulars for situation use.Would a 12-man pod be big enough to carry a vehicle, alternatively?

If so, then the outfitting of a drop pod for personnel use would effectively be able to drop two whole lances (Lance= 12 troops, 2 6-man squads... same thing as a platoon, pretty much) or could drop armour sans personnel outfittings... so then, six of those. I made a mod to the details. Tell me if this will work.
