The Paladin Bodguard Droid is designed to function as an escort for important sith who are in the field. Based on the Magna Guards used in the clone wars by the droid army, the Paladins improve upon the concept with several new features.
Unlike most battle droids, they are designed with dueling in mind. Programmed with the best dueling algorithms that technology has to offer, these droids strike with superhuman strength and speed, each wielding a deadly vibrostaff. They are also equipped with magnetize-capable feet, provide some measure of defense against telekinetic attacks. In addition, the outer shell is equipped with electrical insulation, to protect from the use of force lightning. However, it should be noted that this provides only a measure of protection, and while it will be able to defend against the attempts of apprentice-level force users, more experienced users of the technique will still be able to easily over come the droid's electrical systems. They are also equipped with sort, retractable, wrist-mounted virboblades which can be extended at any time for a surprise attack, and can function as a second line of defence if the staff is lost. However, they cannot deflect lightsaber blows are therefore solely offensive attatchments.
Despite their considerable combat capabilities, these droids cannot stand up to a practiced force-user alone. Rather, they are designed to provide extra targets that a force user cannot easily dispatch. This gives their owned a great deal more flexibility--while the droids are not useful by themselves, in tandem with a force user they can tip the balance of a duel or provide cover for a retreat. However, because of their secondary role, the entirety of the droid's computing capacity is devoted to combat capabilities. They will follow orders without question, but they are unable to act without direction and cannot think for themselves. As such, they are also unable to produce speech.
Their focus on dueling also detracts from their ability to fight at range. As their staffs cannot deflect blaster bolts, they can easily be dispatched by an opponent at range, further detracting from their ability to function independently in combat. They are, however, equipped with wrist mounted blaster cannons to deal with such enemies.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
+ Dueling Capabilities match those of an apprentice/low level knight.
+ Magnetic feet and electrical insulation gives protection against basic force attacks.
+ Durasteel armor provides basic protection around vital areas.
- Dueling focus detracts from ability to fend off ranged attackers.
-Unable to think for themselves or speak.
