Description:
Outpost Coyote is located far from the mountainous regions from which the Rattataki build their settlements, hewn into the rock of those very mountains. Out in the flat plains are thousands of kilometers of arid dunes incapable of supporting life. Pockets of forgotten architecture dot the landscape, among them is an ancient observatory that has been re-purposed by the Commonwealth's Naval Intelligence division.
For all appearances it still looks abandoned. The steps leading up to the outpost are rusted and bent, some are entirely missing. The door into the observatory has long since been knocked from its hinges and remains laying on the floor with a thick film of dust covering it. The inside has been vandalized, shattered glass litters the floor while poor graffiti adorns the walls. Adolescent Rattataki in times gone by have trashed the place but it has since been forgotten by the passages of time.
Along the floor are planks that can be lifted and removed to reveal a newly constructed manhole. Quite thing, species bigger than an average human would be unable to fit. Although the planks concealing this manhole can be quite easily confused with the many other planks that have been tested by time and have sprung up out of the floor all across the observatory.
Following the manhole down is quite the arduous task. It leads into what at first appears to be a large cavernous sewer passage, but upon following the path it will quickly lead to a security door that requires authorization by identification card and retina scan. Within is a small cramped living and office space where ten men and women operate the listening outpost.
Outpost Coyote is fitted with a large room that combines the living quarters, kitchen and office space, making it very cramped. The bathroom is separated by a thin corridor with a storage room at the end of the hallway, opposite the door to the bathroom is a garden for underground farming, making Outpost Coyote partially self-sufficient.
The personnel at Outpost Coyote are deployed for five years at a time before being rotated with a different crew. Coyote is responsible for the monitoring of space traffic within the local sectors, as well as covertly tapping into local traffic control communications.
History:
With the emergence of the Commonwealth into the galactic community, Commonwealth Naval Intelligence (CNI) wisely began investigating potential sites for listening outposts to keep the CNI with updated information from across the galaxy. One of these locations was Rattatak, with its vast deserts, immense planet and low population would allow Outpost Coyote to go by almost undetected.
The construction of this station was rushed by CNI upon the discovery of the Black Empires intentions and the First Orders galactic expansions. Meticulous attention was paid to leave the observatory undisturbed, as well as making their movements unknown. In a manner of weeks Alexandrian miners have created a cavern large enough for the listening outpost, with technicians from TaraTari providing scanners and communication relays.
Intent: To provide one of many listening outposts for the Commonwealth military.
