Thryk, Lekae, Raven, and Ice stepped down the ramp of the Karrde Shark. A tall-ish Chiss stood at the bottom of the ramp. When he caught sight of Lekae, he bowed.
"What in the hell are you bowing for, idiot? Usually people just say 'sorry' when they try to blast me out of the sky."
"I apologize, but is it not fitting to bow to royalty, my lady Even, last of the house I long served?"
"Royalty? Lady Even? You've got the wrong girl."
"Oh, pardon me. You haven't been here since you were a baby. What is your name outside of the Ascendancy?"
"Lekae Karrde. My father never kidnapped me. He saved me."
"I guess you are correct. You are the last survivor of a family consumed by destruction."
This could make things easier. A lot easier.
