One Step At A Time [Lisa]

Antecedent.

"There sure are a lotta smart people here, Derp," Tei said, speaking to his trusty droid companion.

The three apples tall droid looked back at his Je'daii friend. "Dwoo."

"Yeah, I know, right?"

Welcome to Antecedent, the planetwide city. Just like Coruscant, the vistas here at sunset were beautiful. Unlike Coruscant, however, you could see the night sky from the undercity and marvel at the beauty of the vista. Enter Teio, staring at the artistic and intellectual hub of this world hidden away near the Tingel Arm; this place was different, new, somewhere he'd not been.

And, apparently, home to something interesting. Criminals, or so the rumour said.

This place had a heart where the intellectual and creative came together to create something beautiful. Even the architecture spoke of raw intelligence, marred only by the artistic freedom that came with know how to push the mathematical and technical boundaries of mere numbers. It was a marvel. The Force spoke to him here in new ways. Together with his droid, it was time to explore this place, learn something new, and perhaps add to his own repertoire of boundless knowledge of the Galaxy.

Whatever would he find here?

Lisa leaned back against her swoop, sniper rifle on her back. As the night sky of Antecedent lit up with the neon signs of the Dragon Palace Casino and the billboards the corporate interests had placed here, she lit a cigarette. She was a travelling Dark Jedi, whom had never stayed in one place for long.

She had recently joined the Sith, but not pledged to their sad order of Sith Lords. No she considered herself more of a force Mercenary, fighting where it benefited her. Now she had taken a return trip home to Raven territory to get away from it all. The blood the carnage. Although she lived for battle, even the most stalwart warrior needed a break.

She was right outside the starport, perched on the side of the street near an alley. Watching and waiting. For what she was not sure, but a gut feeling told her this the place to be. So here she was....

Cue the lost footsteps of our Je'daii seeker.

Derp had, at some point, jumped up onto Tei's shoulder and taken a seat there. Being a foot tall certainly had its perks, and with only a small weight to do it, Teio could basically carry Derp around on his shoulder. Sure, it was heavier than, say, a bird. But Teio could bear it. Of course he could, for his best little buddy.

Those brown eyes suddenly picked up something. It was a combination of Force sense and his sight, but the moment he laid eyes on Lisa, in the distance with her swoop and rifle, he knew. This was a fellow Force-user. It was the paralytic beat of danger, coupled with the unknown thrill of something he couldn't quite place. This woman was dangerous as hell and he knew it.

He didn't go for his lightsaber, though.

Teio just nodded his head, recognising the fellow Force-user across the way. Obviously tainted with Dark, but beyond that... he had no idea.

"Hi."

Lisa leaned forwards now, taking sight of the young warrior and looking him up and down. He was a bold thing, embraced in the force and wrapped in intrigue. For a second she thought of attacking him, just to get a feel for what his talents were. But she stopped mid thought.

You're on vacation, no violence... well unnecessary violence.

"Hey kid." Lisa flicked her finished cigarette into the wind, letting Antecedents violent winds carry it away. The night was young in the corrupted city. She could feel the strife and violence unfolding in the distance as the weirdos and seedier patrons of the metropolis went about their business.

"What brings you to the den of crime, this side of the galaxy?"

"Oh, y'know, just exploring," Tei answered, rather casually. Strange, perhaps, but that was how he was. No point being uptight. "Heard that Antecedent was kinda cool. Turns out what I heard was right."

The Kiffar nodded his head, grinning, brown eyes shining in the myriad lights of the mega-city. "I'm Teio. And this right here is Derp."

The DRP-10 droid, tiny, silver and blue, beeped a quiet greeting, obviously a little timid. He was in fact a miniscule mechanic, able to handle the most complex starship repairs... but most of the time he couldn't reach what he needed to without the assistance of a liquid cable launcher.

"How 'bout you? You look like a bounty hunter, or something. Here for a prize, or somethin' else?"

Dangerous people. Very, very dangerous. Last Tei checked he wasn't a criminal or had a bounty on his head, which was probably a good thing.

"Oh I'm taking a break from the war."

Lisa left out the part about slaughtering the hundreds of innocents across all fronts and her other dark deeds of late. She was very busy examining the young man and his strange little droid. At last she spoke, crossing her arms and grinning.

"So you're a forcer eh? What side do you lean to?"

"War, huh. Who do you fight for, if anyone? War's not normally my thing." He preferred adventuring. Soldiering wasn't his style; Tei liked the freedom, to roam about wherever he wanted. It let him learn new stuff and train and be all kinds of awesome.

"I go both ways," Tei said, obviously cheeky - he didn't go both ways like that. "I prefer the Force in balance." The Je'daii way required total harmony of Light and Dark - the revealing fire of Light, the mystery of Darkness. That was Teio's way. Rare as that way was, of course, because so few practised the path of harmony with the Force. It was far harder than walking one, for one gave you an ideal to aspire to - both required you to be able to be flexible, to be two different things.

"I follow a very old and very particular sect of the Force. Last I checked there's only one other of us in the entire Galaxy. What about you? How do you feel about the Force?"

"I fight for the Sith now, the Ravens before that. As for the force..."

Lisa paused here, considering that if he walked the line he might not appreciate her next sentence. It was a necessary evil and her eyes scanned him, calculating his reaction as she spoke.

"The force is my tool and my only master. I use it, it uses me."

She glanced him over again looking for signs and her mind reached out touching his and attempting to ascertain how he felt one way or the other about her declarations.

"I am not a Sith, nor a Jedi. I am simply, Lisa Ticon. I follow my own code, a Rogue code."

"The Sith, huh." Teio, unlike his Master, did not have a wholly negative view of the Sith. Like his Master, he considered them one of two sides fighting for the same slice of chocolate cake, and both of them were equally silly. However, he was okay with hanging out with them. They told one side of the tale of the Force, after all.

The next second, Teio could feel a mental probe headed his way - and instantly he got defensive, raising an eyebrow. Most mental intrusions he was used to. Hell, he learned from one of the best mentalists in the Galaxy. But this was different.

"You don't need to mind-probe me for answers, y'know," he said. After all, still an apprentice, still learning. But he also wasn't stupid. Unwelcome intrusions were certainly unwelcome. Then again, dark siders tended to take what they wanted and screw the consequences - thus, the path of balance was a better fit for Teio and his mindset. "Just ask. Trust me, it's better."

"Well then duly noted. Tell me have you trained in any arts?"

Lisa was eager to whisk this one away and teach him at the Void temple. Hell maybe in time she could convert him, but that would not be the case as of now. For now she was content passing on her knowledge and guiding others through the treacherous path of the Darkside. As the night grew longer sirens erupted in the back ground, wailing far off in the city.

"I got a nice little tucked away hideout. Care to come along?"

"I'm one of the last surviving Je'daii," Tei explained, trying not to make it a big deal. "Ancient order, extremely esoteric, blah blah. Dark and Light in balance, essentially. We're the real original Force order, predating both Jedi and Sith by a lot."

Also true. The Je'daii were only over twenty five thousand years old, literally making them the first. Not necessarily the best, but definitely the first. It was a cool thing to say, but there was only three Je'daii in recent history - one was now dead, the other was all over the place and Teio hadn't met her in person, and he was the third. It made for very lonely training. Converting Teio was going to be like moving a mountain - he wa svery set in his ways, and for good reason. He would never in a million years abandon the teachings of the Je'daii; his now-dead Master extolled him with the single purpose of keeping up the traditions of his people.

"Sure, if you want. Let's go."

Couldn't hurt to talk about the Force with someone, right?
