On wings like eagles

You know, Coruscant can be pretty quiet. Too quiet, if you ask me. I think I can rectify that. "Wooah!" A shadow in the night, I flew across the city rooftops as fast as the air could take me. And no, I'm not making a metaphor of how fast I was going. I literally flew. The wind rushed through my long hair as I raced along, not a care in my mind. As far as I was concerned, nothing mattered but speed. Ever since a friend of mine helped me unlock my ability to shape the air around me, I'd been practicing as much as I could. Air was definitely more fun than fire, as I was realizing now. I felt free, and devoid of any law. No chains could hold me- except the pole that I just smashed my face into. Now that was a pretty big chain. "Ouch..." Getting up stiffly, I gently felt my nose, which thankfully wasn't broken. Breathing a small sigh of relief, I sat down at the edge of the building I was on, overlooking the streets below.

There was nothing quite like a night like tonight. It was nice a cool out, and free to do as I wished. Walking to a building that was fairly high in the sky I walked past the graveyard shift guard, and up the stairs to the top of the roof. I smiled as I opened the door to the top. taking a breath of the cool semi-clean air, I took off my bag and set it against a heating unit where it would be safe. Thats when I started to take off my clothes. Each article of clothing fell to sit ontop of the brown and grey bag. The only thing left was my Dove sit. Pulling the boots and gloves from my suit I put them on and pulled up the cover of my face. Only then did I let my black as night wings unfurl.

It felt good to stretch them. being stuck in my back and hidden by a bag it hurt to keep it in there for more than eight hours. Looking to my left I saw the edge and then to my right I saw the other side of the roof top. Only I was with company.

Not long after I had taken a seat at the edge of the roof, I heard movement somewhere on the other side. Slowly looking over, I spied a man with a duffel bag, who had began shedding his clothes to reveal a strange looking suit... And a massive set of wings. That was enough to grab my attention. He had already spotted me anyway, so I took no time in greeting him. "Hey! Um... Are those things real? Because they look seriously awesome. I'm Jake by the way."

All in my head I realized that someone else had seem me. I couldn't hear half of the man's, Jake's, words because I was flipping out. When the words registered in my head that he said they were "awesome" that made me stay on the ground, instead of the air where he probably couldn't reach me. Somehow my sword was drawn in my right hand already and was being pointed at him. However, the blade was made for slashing and cutting, not stabbing. I questioned him with the fewest amount of words possible. "Awesome?"

"Yea man! I wish I had wings like that, you could be a superhero if you wanted. Me, all I can do is stuff like this." Before I did what I was thinking, the question crossed my mind of whether or not I should trust him. The way I figured it: I saw his wings, so there should be no reason not to reveal myself. Smiling, I let a small tornado of fire and air twist around in the palm of my hand. At some points, it would glow brighter, then would once again darken as it lost air.

The man explained that he thought my wings were "Awesome" and he said that he wanted to be a superhero. As much as I would have also like the thought, He didn't know what I had to go through to get the wings. More than five years of it. I simply nodded my head and put the sword where it belonged on my back. As it would sit there between my shoulder blades with the handle, because of the slight bend in the blade, would come over the right of my head. He showed me that he could control what looked to be tornadoes mixed with fire. I had not seen that before in my life, but I wasn't surprised because of my last encounter with the hulking man Ashborn.

I let my wings open up to their full extent of a 6 meter wingspan. Probably the largest set of wings ever on a sentient being. "Um thanks for the complement." I brought up my hand and removed the mask portion of the suit so he could see my entire face. I took some steps forwards and gave him a handshake. "Dove, the name is Dove, and you could be a Hero with those powers, Everyone has their talent. Its your job to find it and use it for the better of the Galaxy. My talent is flying with wings, yours is the powers you have. Don't belittle it when you have only just begun to tap into who you really are." Even though I was only 23, I had the mind of a 50 year old. I had to grow up fast when I was taken captive. and this is the result.

I nodded and smiled at his words, agreeing wholeheartedly. "Wise words indeed. I'm Jake, it's nice to meet another person who appreciates that I'm not out to hurt everyone." I gave a wry smile to accompany the last sentence. It really hit home, as almost everywhere I went, I was considered a freak. Looking at Dove-a rather appropriate name if you ask me-he seemed to want to spread his wings for a while. I took this as the perfect chance to try something I'd been practicing all week. "Hey, you wanna fly for a while? I've been teaching myself to use the wind to my advantage, maybe I've finally got it down. Besides, you look really anxious to get off the ground." I offered him a friendly smile.

I nodded my head at his comment on having wise words. It wasn't much really. I had thought about things like this for a long time since my rescue/escape from the Sith that trapped me in that cell. As we shook hands he told me his name again, Jake. It was rather simple yet to the point. From the way that his clothes were put on him, he was clearly a guy who listened to music that some may think as rude, or not civil. Ether way, it was not my place to judge him. He was a man that liked his own things about himself and would probably not give a crap what you said about him. Though he would always remember what you said. So I chose my words carefully.

He spoke of using the wind to his advantage. And thats where I got confused. You don't control the wind, no one can. You may harness its energy but not move it entirely. If you were to do that you would have to stop the planet from moving around its axis. and with how small this man was to me, I doubted he could do that. I only looked at him in confusion. "You can fly? then where are your wings?"

A small smile came to my face when I was asked this question, a knowing smile. "Now now, I said I'd been practicing. Whether I can yet or not! we shall see in a moment." I closed my eyes, thinking about a gentle ocean breeze. Visualizing the beach and the spray of water and wind on my face, the smile on me became more childlike. Eventually, torrents of wind pushed their way around me, and I was slowly lifted. Three feet above the roof, I opened my eyes again and looked down. "We'll, what do you know, I can fly after all."

I just stood there in disbelief as Jake said that he could fly. I have never seen anyone else fly in my life. He told me that he had been practicing when winds pushed up from the ground and all around us. rocks and small debris were flying around everywhere because of where we were standing on the roof top. I watched as he began to float. floating up just enough that he could reach my eye level. I shook my head with a smirk. "And I doubted you. Count me wrong for that."

I just smiled and shook my head as he said that he could fly after all. I pulled up my facemask and spoke at the same time. "Well then lets fly like birds of prey." I turned to face the north and let my night black wings come up over my head like a swimmer just before a swan dive. I ran towards the ledge and brought my wings down with such force that I shot off of the roof top and into the air like a bullet from a gun. The first push off sent me a good 50 feet in the air. With how strong I was and the skin tight suit that was wrapped around my body the wind moved around me like a hot knife in butter. Turning to face Jake I smiled "You coming?"

(OOC: *plays "It's the Fear by Within Tempation*)

Wow, could this guy fly! He reminded me of a raptor, ready to close in for a kill. Gulping, I nodded in response to his question. "Okay now... Let's see what I can do." Dropping back to the ground, I faced the edge of the roof. I knew I couldn't do what he just did, so I settled at getting a running start. I mimicked what I was doing earlier, augmenting the wind to my speed. Without hesitation, I jumped right off into the darkness. The wind seemed to have left me then. I was falling to my death, product of my own stupid mindset. 'Come on...' I closed my eyes, and my body gained momentum. Squeezing them even tighter shut, I felt the air become mine again. I was free! "YEAHH!" Using every scrap of willpower I had, I channeled my speed into a cannon. Directing myself up at the last possible second, I shot up like a comet, and a set face of pure determination on my face. Not realizing my own power, I shot straight past the angel-like man, not a care in the world. I stopped a good twenty feet above him, before letting myself plummet back down, then floating the last few feet down to him.

Even from up here I could see the doubt in the man's face. He tried to comfort himself by speaking of how he would see what to do. I watched with intent as he ran to the edge. It seemed as though he dropped off and I was going to go after him when he shot up past me. Smiling I shook my head. He came back down where he was a good amount above me. Still flapping my black wings with the very thunderous sound of a very large bird. "Looks like you can, Now my question is, how fast?"

With that I angled my body parallel to the landscape and took off. My hair pushed itself out of my face, I could feel the cool air as it zoomed by me. The dark landscape flew past me. This was about as free as I would ever get. Up here in the heavens, the sky was not the limit.

"Only one way to find out." I laughed to myself and sent a blast of air behind me, giving me a major boost. At first, I was lagging behind tremendously, and the angel had almost lost me. Then, with pure thought, I rounded up all of the wind I could around me, then sent my body off like a rocket hurtling through space. It was exhilarating, it felt good to be so free. Free from any limits the ground had, and away from everything that could bind him down. Catching up with the other, I let loose a wild howl of excitement. "This is awesome!"

Smiling I felt like showing off to Jake he thought that this was awesome? oh could it get better. Twisting my body I did a aileron roll to allow my stomach facing up to space. Still going at such high speeds this was very dangerous, Like I cared though. I leaned up to look back at the small distance that was between the two of us. "You don't know the half of it! Try to keep up!"

Smiling I flapped my wings with one good push as I spun. Folding my wings into my body to literally turn myself into a very large bullet. I could feel the speed of my flight by the rustling of my feathers. I took one huge breath as well spreading my wings and let the thunderous clap of my wings hit the sky once more. Smiling I flew in between two buildings.

Oh, so it was a race now? Very well, I could race. Once again accelerating, I struggled to keep up with Dove for little over a few seconds before I was shooting past him. Since I didn't have wings to worry about, I figured I could go even faster. Whether it was true, or he was just testing me, I don't know. Then a thought crossed my mind, I wanted to try something. "Be right back!", I yelled over the rushing wind. Directing my form upward, I flew as high as I possibly could without freezing from the height. Then, without any hesitation, thought, or remorse, I let myself plummet head-first in a spiral downward. Nothing controlled me at that point but gravity, and all I could do was stare at the approaching ground in wonder.

After I had cleared the building I watched as Jake went up into a spiral so high up that I thought he might freeze. He seemed to hover there for a second as he turned his body to dive head first towards the ground. Letting the forces of nature take over and sending him into terminal velocity. The point where you have the same amount of wind resistance as the pull of Courscant. Making you nether slowdown or speed up. His face was full of wonder and amazement. Only did I see what was going to happen. I felt as though my veins froze into ice, and before I thought of moving I did.

My wings pushed off towards him and I could get closer. and at the very last second I slammed into his body as a speeder zoomed by both of us by a mere hair length away. I could feel my black feathers scrape the top of the speeders canopy. Still holding onto him I angled my body up and pulled with my wings with all that I had to avoid the building that we were going to crash into. I could tell that he was still going to hit the edge, with my upper body strength I yanked him up to be above me in the air where he would be safe.

And as Oh so close I folded my wings into my body once more and could feel the railing of the building rub up against my chest as I flew past it into the air. Angling myself even more higher I came to a stop in the sky to try and find Jake.

Just about there.... and- What?! As I was just ready to pull up, a massive set of wings filled my vision and sent me hurtling toward a building, then back up into the air. I didn't know what was going on. I reacted. "NO!" As soon as I was let go, my body was set aflame, and I hit the edge of the building. I was fine, but the building itself had gotten a serious chunk of permacrete blown off from my impact. My eyes burned a deep orange. When I finally noticed that I was safe in the air, I looked down in horror at the falling pieces of the building. It had split in half, one headed straight for a father with his wife and two kids. I couldn't let them get hurt. Sending a blast of extremely hot fire at the falling rock, I doused my own flames and raced to save the family. My projectile had exploded the rock into smaller pieces, which gave me time. In steaming, hole-riddled jeans, I did my best at moving the family away. When I got to the smaller child, there was no time left. I did the only think I could think of, which was wrapping my arms around him and hoping for the best. Seconds later, the flaming debris collapsed on top of us. The mother screamed. The father looked on sadly. Rising up from the ashes and wreckage, I held the small child in my arms, perfectly safe. While the boy looked up at his savior with adoring eyes, his parents only gave me death stares as I handed him back. "We don't need people like you on our streets. Go back where you came from, freak." No remorse coated the woman's words. Why would it? She was right about me. Sighing, I walked away without anything to go by. I didn't dare use my powers for that time being.

"Oh holy..." I looked to see that a part of a building was broken and had began to fall. then suddenly I saw a flash of orange light disapear and move the people from the building. I looked down to see that Jake had saved a kid, Gods help us and grant us peace he lived! I swooped down and landed on my feet when the parents had said that he was a freak and shouldn't be on the streets. The father backed up into me. I stood a good head and shoulders above him. Seeing that I was taller than him he looked up at me. My black wings spread open wide at them. I looked down at him with my purple eyes. I leaned forwards to get right up to him. And with a whisper I spoke to him. "A freak? He had just saved your child." THe man tried to talk back but I changed my look. it was full of disbelief and some slight anger. "I said he saved your kid, and you call him a freak because he has powers to save people. If you ask me, hes a goddamn hero." The father looked up at me still defiant of what I had said. I shook my head and moved out of they way and watched as he left.

I turned back to Jake and shook my head. "We need to be more careful next time. Now I don't think you want to be blamed for this, so I say we leave." And thats when I heard a siren go off. "Soon."

@[member="Jake Travers"]

Upon hearing the man's words, I rounded on him, my chest steaming again. "We better be careful?! You mean you better be careful next time! I didn't need your help, flyboy. I had it under control. That boy could have been killed, and you care about not getting caught by the cops. I outta keep you here so they can catch both of us." The thought crossed my mind, but I shook my head. "You need to watch your back. I'll be tailing you when you least expect it, now that I know how badly... you can screw up..." Unfortunately, as I said those words, my mind raced to the hospital. I didn't mean to burn it down, but it happened all the same. What happened tonight wasn't Dove's fault, he was only trying to help. "You're right, let's get out of here."

I stared at the man with a blank face. I knew how he would feel. I knew that he would yell at me. But he didn't see that speeder coming. I tried to help him and instead, I had created a position where he was forced into saving the child. I knew that It was some of my fault. However, I wanted to blame him for not looking at the speeder. He calmed down after a second as he got his bearings. I knew that he might have the heart to come and say that he had pushed a family out of the way from falling wreckage, saying that he just happened to be there at the right time, But he could not explain how I had wings. I looked at him with no emotion.

"Do not blame yourself for the actions you may have taken, when you can learn and move on." Turning my back to him he could clearly see where the wings were attached to my back. "Until next time, Jake." I said looking over my shoulder. Then with one swift move I rose my wings and pushed down to lift off into the night sky, where maybe I could clear my mind of what just happened. If Jake chose to follow me, I wouldn't care. all he would see was that I was intending to return to my bag, get dressed, and fade into the background once more like I always have, and always will.
