On The First Order-Culture, a Summary

Part 1

Pilot Officer Collin Calhoun-First Order Starfighter Corp

The first culture shock any visitor to our systems will receive is the dedication of average citizens to the State. Regardless of one's role, from janitor to Statesman the pervading theme generated by the collective is one of unity. A group of like minded individuals working towards the same ends, an accomplishment in social engineering precedented by only a selective few governing bodies before it. Citizens are taught from a very young age that the needs of the group far outweigh their own baser desires. Though they will inevitably die the Order will live on, carrying forth their works into the future. Ever person (particularly those of Human birth) holds a position within a grand organization that values their contribution. This unshakable belief that one is a part of something greater than themselves is the unshakable bedrock that holds the society together.

Now this sort of language isn't grasped by all folk, so a further focus is placed on the family unit, as esoteric promises of continuously working towards a greater future only go so far with those of small imagination. With the family raised up and further associated with general duty to the nation the cycle of instilling moral and civic responsibility remains a relatively closed, efficient system. These teachings must be accepted by any and all immigrants who wish to gain citizenship, ensuring that degenerative ideals will not be brought in to the fold. This is done through various classes and a battery of psychological tests.

That's not to say that the First Order mimics those tired failed experiments that various Socialist movements that have been exercised in certain sectors of the Galaxy. Where the individual is wholly an organism of the State, by the State, and for the State. A failed attempt at eliminating the natural order of Hierarchy that is present in all Human Society. These States failed in their very ideals by creating ungainly top heavy societies, where corrupt officials directed the entire flow of resources.

The Order handles corruption cases swiftly, with the majority of them ending at the bottom of a noose. Treachery of any kind is not tolerated and the higher up one moves in the social order the more stringent such definitions become. Authority matches ones Responsibility to the whole.

With such values as Nationalism and Selfless Service being constantly pressed on the population, it's no wonder that Military Service is taken up by many young men and women for at least a two year term. While not an official requirement, you'd be hard pressed to find many Government Officials without at least a term under their belt. (With the acknowledgement of a few notable exceptions)
