Stewjon was once again a place Gerwald was able to call home. He had been in such a hurry to leave the place that many were surprised he had returned, and while Maramere was the sector captial, Stewjon was where Gerwald based his operations from. The local populace that had known him well watched with a warry eye for a time. All of them knew full well the three siblings had had a hand in the death of their parents. While none of them knew the true reasons as to why, it was hard to hide something which had been so obvious. Many were content to allow it to remain a family dispute, and over time, after Gerwald helped the planet once again by rescuing their Viceroy, they had accepted Gerwald's presence once more.
Life was different. He no longer felt the need to hide who, or what, he was, and that made living among his people bearable once more. They had long been a superstitious culture, though becoming less so as the influence of the Confederacy was spreading, and one of their most revered traditions was upon them.
The Day of Remembrance.
Gerwald was torn about participating considering the fact his parents had been murdered by the hands of his two siblings. The lupine had turned a blind eye to what they had done because he had been betrayed by them both. They had lied to all three of them for so long, and when Alwine's rage consumed her, Gerwald allowed it. For a time he had been so angry, but now, now he simply missed his family. He had left them all without a word, but over time, after he had thought they had reconciled, each sibling went their own way. Whether they had abandoned Gerwald in the same way he had abandoned them, or they had all simply grown apart from each other, all of them were alone.
This was why Gerwald made the journey to where their family home had once stood. All the remained of it was ruin and ash from the night it had burned. New growth of vine and vegetation began to cover what remain of the old wooden house. They had been so poor, and Gerwald could barely remember the discomfort they experienced in the tiny shack when compared to the much opulent lifestyle he was accustomed to now. At least Gerwald maintained humility in his dress, even it it was because he disliked the fancy clothing or the restriction many of the suits people tried to force him into for formal occasions tended to bring. The only item of any true value was the ring which still hung around Gerwald's neck, the only thing which acted as a tether for the soul of the woman Gerwald loved.
His large palm rest against the post of the old doorway to the home. He paused long enough to take in a deep breath, and sigh. It was then he could smell a familiar scent on the cool breeze. Gerwald looked around, but he was still very much out of sight. The large lupine smiled, a playful smirk tugging at his lips.
"I can smell you, Varick... you can come out from wherever you are hiding."
