DESCRIPTION
While with the Templar Order, the Knights Templar would receive a Ring. This Ring was seen as a symbol of office, token of membership, and calling card for all members of that Order. As a descendant of the long-dead Templars, the Obsidian Order found one of the last ones while checking old inventories and stocking the armoury. After deciding that such a token would bring a sense of unity and provide minor functionality, the Codec-Relay Ring was developed and produced by Asher Valentine's own Sudoka Industries.

As per the predecessor jewellery, the CR Ring is more than a simple band. Mechanically, the ring has multiple functionalities. Being made of two segmented rings, it was allowed more manoeuvrability than its predecessor, namely allowing high-resistance buttons in addition to twisting. Also within the ring is the Codec Strip. This wirelessly taps into the Order's database and synchronises user data. Through this, the strip acts as an identity relay, allowing the particular member of the Order access to exclusive areas of Techno Union facilities, or bars access to restricted areas of Techno Union and Obsidian Order facilities. For example, a Neophyte Obsidian may not be granted access to the Court Chambers; or random members may not be granted into the Archon's personal chambers without invitation. This is the primary, passive purpose of the CR Ring - a pass.

The secondary, active purpose of the CR Ring is an emergency distress beacon. By pressing in the two buttons and twisting the band closest to the wearer's palm clockwise, the emergency signal will activate and broadcast a distress message across the Techno Union's SpyNet Communications Relays and Net Taozin's shared relays. From there, reinforcements may be contacted and dispatched to the individual's location. Resetting the orientation of the band will deactivate the beacon. Alternately, by performing the same action, only counter-clockwise, on the band furthest from the wearer's palm, the ring will shut down and become little more than jewellery. This will allow a member of the Order to move covertly in situations where such electronics may prove compromising.

The tertiary purpose of the CR Ring lies in the Force Sensitive crystals. They are tiny, but there are ten per ring. This allows a very small amount of storage of the wearer's own Force energy for emergencies. This is not intended to be continually recharged and abused, as the crystals are too weak for such abuse. Instead, they are designed as a pick-me-up bail-out if the wearer is wholly drained. It may allow for enough of a pick-me-up to not die, or to defend one's self long enough to recharge naturally. Again, this isn't designed as a Force Nexus or a cheat to never run out of energy. It's a last resort when all else fails.

The original submission indicated that this ring was in an always on state, thus transmitting unless the wearer specifically stated it was in an off state. Is this the case with this similar device as well? Or is the ring by default always off unless otherwise activated for any and all of the uses listed above?

This iteration of the device is always in a passive sensor state, transmitting identification data and still easily traced, but it doesn't "go live" so to speak unless activated.
