STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum) :
The Strengths and Weaknesses of the B-1 Series Battle Droid are well known by many. O.M. 44 Carries within his head the same tactical computer that constantly scans the battlefield and gives the droid the directions and protocols needed to survive in open combat. Battle Droids are less likely to become stunned or shocked, and are generally less likely to flee for their lives when a living soldier would. (Though a fleeting Battle Droid is not unheard of.)
In addition, the B-1 Battle Droids are unique in that they can continue to operate even when completely dismembered. Even when destroyed and decapitated, the B-1’s head and brain are still perfectly functional and capable of communicating. What’s more, contained in O.M. 44’s pack is a recharger for the droids battery packs. When power is low, the Droid curls and folds down into its deactivated position and will charge itself back up- reactivating when fully charged or sooner in an emergency situation.
B1 Battle Droids are not however, known for their combat effectiveness or for the durability of their combat chassis. Even an enraged human possesses enough strength to dismember a B-1 Droid bare handed, effectively gimping any potential it has in an actual fight. They are cheaply made, with bare minimal components selected by the C.I.S. to ensure cost effectiveness.
While the Battle Droids are perfectly capable of security and enforcement, and fighting disorganized forces such as pirates or bandits? They have proven somewhat flawed in regards to field combat with adequately equipped and trained enemies. Volume of Fire is the preffered tactic, an endless march of metal boots that stomp over its foes in an endless wave- blasters sending hot bolts towards enemy positions as they approach. Alone or in small numbers however, The B-1 Droid is easily flanked out outmatched by experienced soldiers- and woefully outclassed by even a Jedi Padawan.
APPEARANCE:
O.M. 44 was built and produced to the Bactoid Combat Automata Industry Standards, and turned out for the most part no different than your average Battle Droid. Produced on Geonosis and for Geonosis, O.M. 44 was given the iconic rust brown livery that blends into the sun-baked rocks much better than the tan most Battle Droids are given.
O.M. 44 is not without distinguishing marks, however they all come from battle damage. A pair of blaster burns score his chest, one below his shoulder and the other center-mass. The taller of O.M. 44’s two antennae is bent at a 50 degree angle six inches up, and is shot off nine inches after that.
On the droid’s chest- below a crescent shaped burn mark, his identification is painted. It reads: “O.M. 44” in bold black lettering.
BIOGRAPHY:
O.M. 44 Began its existence as hundreds before it did, within the bowels of a Baktoid Combat Automata factory in the heart of the Geonosian planet. Even during the height of the planet’s invasion during the Clone Wars, their factories churned out hundreds of thousands of Battle Droids each day- marching them directly from the factories to the frontlines in an endless march to stop the tide of Republic clones.
O.M. was one of these Droids, given its programming and a rust brown paint job. Then given an E-5 Blaster, and marched out into the dust storms of Geonosis before the paint had even dried.
With thousands of other droids in front of it, behind it and at both its side the droid clanked in unison to the front- where the vast majority of them were meeting their end at the hands of the Clones, and their Jedi generals. Even so, O.M. 44 Marched on just at it had been programmed to do. Even when LAAT’s overhead screamed past, their lasers cutting swaths through the Droid’s formation? The droids continued their march into the Republic killzone. O.M. 44 Raised its blasted to hip height as he reached the fifth line, marching over piles of Droids and Clones alike as the Fifth line became the fourth. He started pouring blasters in return fire to the endless incoming plasma coming from the Repulic forces, as the fourth line became the third.
When the Third line became the second, O.M. 44 took two shots from a precision blaster to the chest, the rounds sizzling and scorching through his armor. The droid began to malfunction as the third line became the second, and began collapsing as it became the front. The Confederate forces were being destroyed faster than they could be produced, and soon the Clone troopers charged past where the frontline had once been, pushing on to the factory. O.M. 44’s Self Preservation Logic had activated, shutting down all power to conserve energy until the confederate counterattack that would never come. The First Battle for Geonosis had ended with a resounding victory for the Republic.
O.M. 44 Would spend a very long time, its Self-Preservation Logic keeping it from powering up. To the clones and Jedi around, the droid was simply another hunk of metal to be sold in bulk to a scrapyard. While being scrapped is likely a nightmare for most all droids, it turned out to be O.M. 44’s saving grace. Perhaps the droids’ Self Preservation Logic wasn’t so malfunctioned after all, since it seemed to pick the perfect time to re-activate the droid. It was the dead of a cold and empty night, long after Clone troopers were being sent through the battlefield to look for droids that needed to be put down and clones that needed help up. The droid looked around slightly, spotting not much but pitch black. It would rise to a staggered stand, carefully limping its way aimlessly away from the battlefield- tripping over a good number of droids and clones along the way.
The droid had been activated for just long enough for every droid’s natural tendency to drift towards self-programming and independent thought. The Battle Droid set out to find allies, repair and resupply for its E-5 Blaster and possibly get some repairs done- maybe not in that exact order.
