  • Name: Nyati

  • Designation: Non-sentient
  • Homeworld: Heklor
  • Language: Grunts, bellows
  • Average height of adults: Males are about 1.9 meters at shoulder, while females are about 1.5 meters.
  • Skin color: Dark brown, grey-black
  • Hair color: Brown
  • Breathes: Type I

  • Strengths:
  • Sheer size: Nyati are massive. They could easily kill a sentient by just trampeling them to death, which they will do if provoked and unable to run.
  • Horns: Male Nyati have large sharp horns, which they often use to butt heads with eachother, but can also use to ward off predators. If attacked, they can gore a predator with their horns, or fling them head over heels for meters.
  • Hide: Evolved to defend themselves from both Vimelea and Mwitus, Nyati have amazingly thick, but still relivtivly light, hide, which is covered with tiny scales of hardened skin. This make Nyati immune to a Mwitu's stunning blast, meaning they would also be immune to light blaster fire, and other low-power energy weapons. A lightsaber would be able to hack through their skin in one slice, but would be stopped before hitting important muscles, therfore a second slice would be needed to actually kill the animal. The same goes for most blaster weaponry. Light blaster wepaonry, though- like the Mwitu's blast- will simply burn the fur off a Nyati's skin. Despite the hardened scales and thick skin, they are evolved to deal with Vimelea and Mwitu, not slugthrowers. Therfore swords, slugthrowers, and any knife larger then a Vimelea's ovipositor will easily kill them.
  • Senses: Nyati have an excelent sense of both hearing, and smell, which they use to detect danger.
  • Weaknesses:
  • Prey mentality: Nyati are quick to be spooked, therfore are quick to run. If they can't run, they'll willingly attack you, often in numbers.
  • Vunrable legs: Nyati have very little muscle on their legs, therfore their legs are one of their most vunrable spots.
  • Odor: Evolved as a secondary defence to defend themselves from Vimelea, they secrete and extremely pungent oily substance which is poisonus to Vimelea, and most other types of insects. This means that predators can literally smell a Nyati herd from miles upon miles upon miles away, with a good wind.
  • Low intelligence: Nyati aren't the brightest bulbs on Heklor. They can easily be tricked, and can easily be led in to a trap.
  • Poor eyesight: Nyati have extremely poor eyesight, and can only see things within a meter of them. Anything past that, gets to blurry to tell a tree from a wookiee. Also, their eyesight is completely greyscale, they cannot tell one color from another.
  • Snout and eyes: The skin on a Nyati's ears, snout, and around their eyes, are much thinner, and do not have the hardened scales. Therfore, they are vunrable there.

  • Distinctions: Nyati are very large bovine beasts, with wide sharp hooves used for keeping themselves from sinking in the mud of the swamps and watering holes in which they prefer to live. The amles have distinct curved horns, mentioned above, which are used for a multitude of purposes.
  • Average Lifespan: 15-20 years
  • Races: None
  • Estimated Population: 6,000,000 roughly, only on Heklor.
  • Diet: (In order of preference) Grasslands grasses, shrub leaves, water plants, tree leaves, small fruits.
  • Communication: Grunts, bellows

  • Technology level: None, they are not sentient and they cannot use tools or technology.

  • General behavior: As a herd animal, Nyati prefer to keep in large numbers which is useful for alerting of dangers, as well as defence. If a danger is discovered, one of two methods of action will be taken. Typically, the entire massive herd will stampede, to flee from danger. If for some reason this is not ana vailble course of action, such as if they were cornered with no way to flee from the predators, then the younger males and females will surround the young of the herd, while the largest males charge forwards to the predators. The males will trample and gore enemies to death. This means that all animals in Heklor, other then Haywani, almost always avoid the herbivores, as they are more likely to be injured, then to get food. Nyati can be tamed, though, if raised from a young age by their new masters, as the Mgena did for thousands of years. Named Nyati are usually much more docile, and less likely to act agressivly.
  • Although they prefer to live in swampy areas, or near watering holes, Nyati live all over the planet in all climates, even in the deep jungle. They are known to travel distances every day to reach grasslands, before returning to their swamp homes at night.
  • Nyati young are able to walk within hours of birth, and run as fast as the herd within days.

  • History: Nyati were used as pack animals, as well as used as a source of meat and milk, by the ancient Mgena. By the time the Mgena began to develop laser-based weaponry, they also discovered that Nyati hide was very useful for anti-blaster armor. But, news of this discovery never spread to the rest of the galaxy, as the Mgena species died out soon after becoming on par technologically with the rest of the galaxy, and therefore creating blasters.

  • Notable Player-Characters: None
  • Intent: To make the most numerous large animal of Heklor, to make an interesting alternitive to Banthas, and to make a consumer in Heklor's ecology.

Theophenes

Stark raving silly
There's an embedded link in the word "diet" for some reason, that should probably be edited out. Otherwise, I have no issues with this. It's a perfectly reasonable source of steak. Could we please make a note that these are not sentient critters, preferably under "significant player characters" or "technology." If they are, well, we should clarify.

Don't know how that link got there, :p
Edits made!

Btw, I stated they were non-sentient in designation, but I edited it to state in tech as well. :p
