Nothing Goes According to Plan

The baying of the vornskr pack followed her up the steep incline. She had no idea how they had gotten here, all she knew is that an un-armoured force sensitive mandalorian armed only with a beskad was not likely to escape unscathed from a pack of these beasts. So she kept running the old training trails she had run with her father through the forests of Concordia. Boots hammered across the earth, avoiding roots that threatened to ensnare her feet and bring her down. The trail bent to the left, a low hanging branch almost catching her in the chest, she dropped, sliding beneath it and was away again.

She could see what she had been aiming for up ahead, a break in the trees as forest gave way to an old beskar mine. The canopy above vanished as she crashed through the undergrowth into the open space. Ten meters before she would hit the edge and a perilous drop into the mine. Four vornskrs burst through the undergrowth after her and she reached over her shoulder to pulled the beskad free from its sheath.

Seven meters from the edge...

One vornskr leapt, looking to close its jaws on Mia's head. She dropped letting the beast sail over her, sliding another two meters before coming to a stop and turning to face her foes. Beskad in hand, vambrace's were her only form of protective clothing. The four circled her, low guttural growls rumbling forth to raise hairs the hairs on her neck and arms, but she had no fear, instead a smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she adjusted her stance waiting for them to attack. A tail shot forward, is sting looking to find home in her flesh, only to clash with the beskar bracer as Mia raised her sword arm to block it. Her free hand flashed across, seizing the tail beskad glinted in the sunlight the severe the sting from its owner.

The painful howl that followed seemed to act as a signal for the others to attack. Two moved for her upper body, aiming to unbalance her. The beskad flashed out again, severing the top of one's of the beasts heads before it could sink its teeth into her, the second clamped on her bracer, only to lose its head an instant later. The third vornskr had found time to sink its teeth deep into Mia's leg. She grunted, spinning the sabre in her hand and driving it down through the animals back, it died still holding onto Mia's leg.

Wrenching the beskad free, she slid it carefully into the dead beasts mouth and turned the blade to open its mouth so she could move her leg. Teeth gritted against the pain she turned her attention to the first of the four beasts whom was still whimpering, its belly to the floor. She limped towards it, head tilting as its ears flattened against its head and it lowered its head into a submissive stance, not looking Mia in the eye.

"Well, I'll be damned." she muttered. She reached for her belt, pulling a commlink free. She had left her ship in the city, coming out on foot to clear her head. In normal circumstances, she would have just limped back, but she couldn't limp back and carry seventy pounds worth of animal with her. "This is Mia Monroe," she broadcasted on a public channel, "Requesting a pick up ASAP, ran into some trouble in the forest, nothing serious but I'd rather not bleed out on the walk back. Transport will need to have a secure area too. Anyone available?"
