Not one homogeneous people…

ryloth_by_corvusraaf-d8qe164.jpg

Corvus had never visited Ryloth before. She knew as much as the next space-traveller about the planet – it was harsh, rocky and the homeworld of the Twi’leks.

What she learned as she travelled was that one side of the planet was perpetually facing the sun and the other remained in permanent darkness. She also found out this was known as tidal locking. Today she was heading to the Lonely Five Range – a series of mountains that housed the large subterranean city of Kala’uun. Situated on the twilight between light and dark, the atmosphere was breathable but she’d been warned it was thin and to avoid being outside when either the extremely high winds (up to 500 kmh) or heat storms (with temperatures up to 300 degrees Celcius) struck.

The planet had its dark moments too. She remembered from history how the Brotherhood of Darkness operated a Sith Academy here that specialised in producing Sith Assassins. And it was a planet that had more than its fair share of challenges with slavery.

But today her reason for travelling was far more mundane. So as she approached the tunnel that travelled underground and would provide access via a massive portcullis to the city, she smoothed the hem of her robes with the palms of her hands. Today she was to talk to a group of schoolchildren abut the Republic Jedi and about the history that intertwined the Jedi Order and the planet historically. Younglings she had extensive experience of. Children in general? None.

Lenia was excited once she found out a real jedi knight was coming to her school to talk to her class. She didnt know that she had he force, well, she had been told she may have it but it wasnt 100%, so she just accepted that and nodded as she sat down with the other child and waiting the arrival of the jedi knight.

Corvus was taken straight to the school. It was a class of senior students, so the Jedi felt more at ease. In truth, the younger the student, the harder their questions tended to be - that was certainly the case with Younglings.

So Corvus was introduced to a group of 30 or so of the cities brightest. It was hard to believe she was a Jedi Knight by the time she was this age - they all seem so young. But then she'd been a Jedi since the age of four. And, without thinking, she scanned the audience. Nothing invasive, but by using Force Sight, she was able to detect their auras. One girl stood out. Like a lighthouse next to a box of matches she stood out.

Corvus wondered why she was here. Had she slipped through the net when routine assessments took place? Or had she refused to join the Jedi? Or maybe even the assessors made a mistake, not realising her potential? Regardless of the reason Corvus was both intrigued and concerned. Intrigued because there was the possibility of adding to the Jedi ranks - and this young woman had great potential. Concern because if the Jedi didn't train her, there were enough Sith about that would take her by force and if she chose not to join them would be broken into either submission or just broken.

So Corvus gave a fairly standard speech, about the long history of the Order, about how they were guardians of peace for the whole galaxy but yes, currently her focus was on Republic space. She talked a little about the Code and dispelled a few myths before the questions came. No they were not monks, yes they could have partners, no they didn't have to wear the robes.

And finally she opened it up for questions. She wanted to focus on the young woman but didn't want to intimidate her. But even if she asked no questions, Corvus was determined to speak to her once the talk was over.

Lenia kept her blue eyes on the jedi, she envied her , she was somewhat jelous, she hung her head a little sad as she had been made to move to Ryloth when she was 1 and had grown up there, god she missed her family and friends, but they had all been killed

Corvus managed many of the usual questions. Yes they could eat whatever they wanted, they were bound to honour the Code, yes they could read people's minds (but only did so when it was necessary), no they were not above the law and finally yes, many died serving the Order.

Questions over, Corvus waited whilst the students filed out, some thanking her whilst others seem to give her a wide berth. That was often the way with things you don't understand.

But when the red-haired girl came close, Corvus spoke. "I was wondering if I could have a word. In private?" Once they were alone in the room, Corvus continued. "You see I couldn't help but notice your aura. You are clearly Force Sensitive. I was wondering, have you been approached to join the Order before?"

"i havent no..i was told it was a posibility but...more than likely not" she shrugged and sighed "some siths had come to me...but i said no" she explained whilst looking at the jedi

Corvus nodded at the young woman’s response. “Well it’s definitely more than a possibility. Perhaps your ability has grown since you were tested. In truth it matters little. What is important is that you have a choice. You can remain here or you can become a Jedi.” She did not even think about the possibility that the young woman would become a Sith.

“I don’t know if there is someone you need to discuss this with? I can stay around if you need time to decide. And of course, I can answer any questions you have.”

Corvus smiled, "If you'd like to be. I mean there's training and stuff like that, but in time it's possible to become a Jedi Knight, of course."

"So, if we can get your school principal to agree, there's no reason why you can't come back to Ossus with me. What do you think?"

Corvus smiled as her new student returned. The broad smile suggested the answer was positive and so Corvus led the way back to her ship.

As they walked, Corvus asked the question she tended to ask every new Padawan, "Please Lenia, tell me what you know about the Jedi."

Corvus smiled, "That's a good place to start."

As they reached the ship, Corvus pointed to a datapad. "Whilst I get us airborne, take a look at the Jedi Code. When you're comfortable with it, join me in the cockpit and we can discus what you think it all means."

Corvus performed all the standard checks and when ready exited the hangar and the city via the rather unorthodox means - but soon they were in the outer atmosphere and she input the codes to take them to Ossus.

They were in hyperspace for a short while when Lenia arrived at the cockpit. "Good, it is always a great place to start your training. The Code is what defines us as Jedi. So..." she turned her seat to face Lenia. "Take each line in turn and tell me what it means to you."

She explains "a jedi must protect man kind from evil, not to be selfish or mean" she smiles feeluing rather proud of her self "the jedi must also never let there hatered or anger consume them as that would lead to the darkside"

Corvus smiled - the Code was an enigma even for seasoned Jedi. So she did what she usually did, she broke it down initially.

"There is no emotion, there is peace. What does that mean to you?"
