Who Can Use This: The Galactic Republic
Description: A project long in the works, the Noblesse class is Rendili Stardrive's original warship design dedicated to the Republic Navy. In an effort to supplement the Republic's naval forces, the engineers and technicians of Rendili Stardrive developed a vessel line they determined was more than a match to go up against the darkness of the monstrosities the enemies of the Republic wielded in slaughter against the galaxy. Originally designed with countering the Sith's most powerful vessel at the time, the Darkblade Destroyer class, the Noblesse was intended to both match the Darkblades in power as well as utilize technology to counter them.
To that end the shipwright of Rendili designed an original piece for the main gun, that the entire ship is constructed around. A railgun in nature, the weapon fires large crafted slugs that are accelerated down the rails of the weapon through magnetic forces employed at right angles that cause the round to barrel down the length of the weapon, hit major boosting points, and then return down the length of the weapon once more to launch from the exit point. The weapon is determinedly more powerful than the average hypervelocity gun due to its rail design as opposed to typical coilgun mechanics that hypervelocity guns follow. The weapon's rounds are also fired as a faster speed due to its increased magnetic force power, meaning each round fired travels to its target sooner as well.
However, such a weapon and ship come with their own weaknesses. While powerful and in some's minds more effective, the Linear Accelerator Cannon (Railgun), does take half again as long as the average Hypervelocity Gun to fire, though this was an acceptable exchange to the designers who believed a slightly slower fire rate was worth more firepower and a more difficult to avoid round. The real flaw in the design though comes from the basis of the weapon designed as a Railgun. By employing rails, which wear down faster than the components of the typical coilgun, the Noblesse class will unfortunately end up in a position to require a degree of maintenance.
To ease the burden of this chore, Rendili Stardrive designed the main weapon's rail system to be comprised of many smaller rail sections lined up together. While the chore of constructing the weapon system became more expensive, the belief that in the long run repair costs would go down was chief in mind. In addition the decision to utilize a series of smaller rails connected rather than a single complete system meant the series line would not have to come into Rendili's docks for each and every repair. Instead, this design allowed the design to incorporate maintenance shafts along the length of the weapon, enabling its crew to enter the weapon at specifically damaged sections to remove and repair them themselves. The only time the Noblesse class would require a full docking procedure for repair would be intense damage to the superstructure threatening the stability of the weapon itself as a whole rather than typical wear and tear.
Yet, it is believed by many within Rendili Stardrive that the Noblesse class will see few instances of such damage. As stated the vessel was also produced to counter the Sith's Darkblade, whose core feature was its impressive Long Range Hypervelocity Cannon. To make the ship truly an effective response to the Sith's monstrous warship, the Noblesse was outfitted with an anti-concussion field generator produced by Lucerne Labs. By installing the anti-concussion field generator onto the Noblesse, Rendili Stardrive intended for the massive destroyer to drop its shields when it detects the Sith's Hypervelocity Gun round on approach, lowering to engage the Anti-concussion field to nullify the damage the physical round could normally cause.
While the time would be brief, it was noted that any time the anti-concussion field is up the main Linear Accelerator Cannon cannot be fired as the field disrupts the magnetic forces. All the same, since the field is meant only to be raised as a last defense if the ship's hull is threatened or only for a brief moment to counteract enemy physical fire, it was determined once more to be an acceptable trade off. In addition to its non-standard components, the Noblesse packs its own devastating firepower in over eighty turbolaser batteries, sixty ion cannon batteries, forty dual barreled long range guns, and a solid point defense system to defend against missile and fighter strikes. The Rendili Destroyer also carries four of its own squadrons to battle, outfitted with one elite squadron, one bomber squadron, and two standard fighter screens.
All in all, this is Rendili Stardrive's Noble Oblige to the Republic.
