STRENGTHS --

INTELLIGENCE: Nico is incredibly intelligent and quick-witted, able to make decisions and consider situational factors quickly. He is well-read on the history of the galaxy, and is constantly working towards developing functional conversational skills in a variety of languages.

PERSISTENCE: Marr does not give up easily in the face of adversity, and is persistent to the point of being stubborn. Whatever task he undertakes he is determined to complete to the best of his ability, and has been known to push boundaries in order to complete a job. He is equally persistent in developing relationships and business ventures, and is known to seek out employment from those he feels would have the best jobs. Nico Marr gets what he wants.

RESOURCEFUL: When it comes to getting things done, Nico is as resourceful as they come -- he's built up a vast network of people he can draw on, in addition to having the ability to resort to whatever is around him in a given situation. An intergalactic MacGuyver of sorts, he's able to use his surroundings to his advantage, and to get what he wants with the help of a variety of resources.

WEAKNESSES --

STUBBORN: He is hard to convince, and often even a harder shell to crack, when it comes to expanding on his own viewpoints or giving up on something once all hope is lost. The phrase "herding cats" comes to mind with Nico -- his persistence borders on obsessiveness and a highly stubborn nature, and once he has his sights set on something, he'll be damned if he changes his mind.

BLUNT: Nico tells it like it is; if he doesn't like something or feels a particular way, he's bound to let the universe know. Unfortunately this bluntness and lack of political correctness has led him down some troublesome paths; but, in the end, its something that is a defining character trait and something he's had since he was a child.

IMPATIENT: Waiting is certainly not a strong-suit for any of the Marr family, and Nico is no exception -- he'd say he is more impatient than even his father, who was notorious for outbursts when things took too long to accomplish.

I. CHILDHOOD ON CORUSCANT

It isn't often that the story of a rogue mercenary begins in a well-off household of love and care; but Nico Marr's is just that. Born to Indal and Indira Marr on the galactic center planet of Coruscant, the youngest years of his life were filled with visions of grandeur and loft goals; from a young age, Nico was primed to walk in the footsteps of his father, an incredibly well known trade broker who was often off-planet making deals worth massive amounts of money between governments. From a young age Nico learned the value of money, and the value of affection, as the absence of his father brought him closer to his mother and younger sister Eiren. Certainly, Indal left his children and wife well-off when he was travelling, and the Marrs wanted not when the head of the family was in the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

Even as a youngster, Nico was intrigued by technology, scientific advance, and discovery -- he was incredibly attuned to his surroundings and often heard things others did not, and developed an understanding of difficult concepts quickly and with ease. His mother quickly endeavoured to have him enrolled in a technical academy as a teenager, much to his father’s agreement – both figured a strong education in science and technology would enable him to be a key player in large-money trade agreements. While Nico originally enjoyed the education, he quickly became bored, instead spending time tinkering and learning independently, keeping to himself through most of his off days and many an evening in the massive archives of Coruscant.

In the libraries he learned the truth behind the legends of the Jedi and the Sith, and the battles between the Dark and the Light aspects of the Force. He began to ask questions and experiment with his own abilities, wondering if his sensitivity to the world was possibly related to the things he was reading about. Soon enough, Nico developed a grasp on some of the basics of the Force, and was able to see the world in a different way. His parents were appalled; the Force was not something they believed in, nor did they want their child tangled up in what they saw as a hokey, ancient religion.

While outwardly she was hesitant and proclaimed to have no belief in the Force, Indira had her own secrets – she was a descendant of Nico Diath, a long-dead Jedi Master, and the secretive namesake of her firstborn son. In her heart, she knew that there was potential Nico could be sensitive to the Force, and now, with his abilities known, she was terrified for him. The myths and legends of the Jedi knights may have been filled with acts and tales of valour, but there was a very real danger that Nico could be hurt or killed; worse, even, he could be led astray to the Dark side of the Force and become something entirely evil.

In his 18th year, things finally hit a breaking point. Nico’s sister, Eiren, had been robbed on the streets of Coruscant by a band of thugs, leaving her bloodied and beaten and in serious condition. Enraged, Nico sought revenge. In taking the thieves down he understood the extent of his abilities, and the true power of the Force; without much of a second thought, a blast of energy from his outstretched hand stopped the thugs in their tracks, pushing them back like a shockwave from an explosive. One of the thieves ended up dead, the Force push having broken his back as he crashed into a wall – terrified, knowing the repercussions of what he’d just done, Nico ran home to Eiren and Indira.

Thankfully, his father was off-planet at the time at a far-away outpost, and after he explained what happened to his mother she told him everything; about the Diaths, about his Jedi Master namesake, and about the fate Nico Diath had met while saving the lives of fellow Jedi Masters, including Obi-Wan Kenobi. She was fearful for her son, knowing that having killed another with the Force he was no on a darker path – he had to flee. With not much time Indira gave him enough credits to get himself established off planet, and called in a favour with an old friend, who offered him safe passage to Tatooine in the Outer Rim. Confused, scared, and shaken by the power of the Force, Nico had no choice but to accept, and soon found himself bound for the space port Mos Eisley.

II. TATOOINE

The first few years on Tatooine were a learning experience – Nico hoped that his mother would send for him, using the powerful influence of the Marr family name to brush away any stains that he might have left, but it wasn’t meant to be. He heard nothing from his home planet, and after a while grew to resent his mother entirely, for abandoning him without so much as a “see you again”. With his age and his bitterness Nico also developed his ability to work the Force even further, experiencing both the Light and Dark aspects of what his powers were capable of to the best of his un-trained ability. Certainly he wasn’t a master by any means, but he did become fairly adept – the mind powers and kinetic abilities were the most appealing to him. In this time, too, Nico acquired a lightsaber; it was old, a relic, but enough tinkering and replacing the crystal made it into a more than serviceable weapon.

With the help of a modified security droid Nico developed strong abilities with the lightsaber – he certainly was far from elegant with it, but he was at least quick and agile enough to parry and block blaster fire. He also managed to acquire, through a string of well-placed bets and a few gambling rings, a VCX-100 light freighter he christened the Acheron. The ship was in rough shape, and he spent a few years patching it up, all the while building a name for himself as a local bounty hunter and Mos Eisley mercenary. The work allowed him to use his powers and new-found skills with both a lightsaber and blaster pistol efficiently, without giving too much away – folks in those parts were still apprehensive about Force-users and weren’t afraid to put a quick end to anyone who might be sensitive.

III. PRESENT DAY

This chapter of Nico’s life has yet to be written – he is now a nomad, roaming the galaxy in the Acheron as both a bounty hunter and a mercenary, looking to pick up odd jobs here and there and to make a name for himself. His family and his past is behind him, but his abilities and strengths are not; he refuses to side with either polarity of the Force, and instead remains neutral. For the most part, he keeps his powers hidden, preferring instead to use just the brute strength of the blaster or the quick maneuvering of the lightsaber.
