Vera was curled up on the couch, a thick book open in her lap. The quiet of an empty home was comforting—no siblings chasing each other, no training sessions echoing through the halls, just peaceful silence. She had a plate of snacks set beside her: a few pieces of fruit, some pastries, and a glass of juice.

She reached for a pastry, about to take a bite when she paused, feeling a faint shift in the Force. Her gaze drifted toward the front door just as a soft noise broke the silence. Someone was there.

Her brows furrowed, and she set the pastry down. It wasn't her parents — they were out with her siblings for a while. Then she sensed the familiar, gentle presence of Azurine, her mother's new Padawan.

With a curious tilt of her head, Vera closed the book and set it aside. She stood, brushing crumbs off her lap, and moved toward the door just as Azurine came into view. "Azurine?" Vera called out, a mix of surprise and curiosity in her voice. "Mom's not back yet… were you looking for her?"

She offered a tentative smile, unsure why Azurine had come but not wanting to seem unwelcoming. In fact, Vera usually loved to bond with her parent's Padawans. Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania and Katherine Holt Katherine Holt were two she had gotten to know that way, and she loved both of them.

Maybe this was a chance to befriend another.

The reconstruction of what had been left of Azurine's old Arc-170 was still ongoing, so of course, she was currently stuck in the position of having to fly whatever ship the temple had on hand that day if she needed to get somewhere. Today, it was a clunky old shuttle that had some dents in it. Oh well. It was still better than nothing in the end, and at least she was getting the experience of flying multiple different types of craft. That alone was at least something she could appreciate.

What she hadn't expected, though, was for the home to be practically empty when she arrived.

Hopping out of the shuttle and approaching the door, she stopped when she only felt the presence of one person inside who certainly wasn't Valery. Usually, it was she who was late, so it was quite amusing for that to be flipped on its head for once. She'd have to remember to give her master a little hell for it later.

She wasn't certain if it was a good idea to just walk in and wait, but she didn't have the chance to really ponder it before young Vera was standing right in front of her,

"Mom's not back yet… were you looking for her?"

Was it that obvious? In hindsight, it probably was given her attire. "Yeah, she asked me to come by for something. Didn't tell me why, though. Probably some form of training. I stopped questioning that kind of thing too much long before getting here," she shruged, chuckling a bit.

"You can just call me Azzie, no need for formalities among friends, right?" she spoke quickly and gave a smile upon seeing the twinge hesitation or worry float through the girls' aura, hoping she might be able to put her a bit at ease. Frankly, the Nobles were more like family to her now than anything else.

Vera's smile widened as she took in Azurine's words, her amusement clear as she realized the situation. Mom totally planned this, she thought, feeling a mix of appreciation and curiosity. "Well, looks like she pulled a little trick on us both," Vera said, stepping back to invite Azurine inside. "They're all out, so it's just us for now. Welcome to our very empty, very quiet home," she added, chuckling as she led Azurine toward the cozy living room.

She gestured to the couch, where her book and a plate of snacks sat within easy reach. "I was just relaxing with a book and some snacks — perfect timing for some company. Want to join me?" she asked, settling back down and gesturing to the assortment of fruit and pastries. Vera's voice was friendly, hoping to help ease Azurine into a relaxed state.

Leaning forward slightly, Vera's gaze softened with genuine interest. "So, Azzie," she said, testing out the nickname with a smile, "I know a little about some of Mom's other Padawans, but you're still a bit of a mystery to me. How has the training been so far?"

She tucked her legs up under her on the couch and tilted her head curiously, giving Azurine her full attention as she waited for her response.

Have I been played?

The question passed through Azurine's mind for longer than it should have. Before she knew it, she was laughing, her expression lit up with her amusement at the whole situation. Master Valery was never late, at least not as far as she had seen. Of course it had been a setup the whole time. "I guess we've both been had, huh?" She shook her head in a bit of exasperation, though she nodded to the invitation inside, stepping forward into the home. She could use a bit of a break from everything that had been going on recently, anyway.

"Snacks sound great, actually. Well, if you have anything that isn't just sugar." Her words came out with a joking tone, but given her species carnivorous diet, it definitely had a hint of more than that after seeing the tray of mostly pastries. She would be fine with one, though, so she wasn't all that worried. Well, mostly, at least. She found herself a seat on the couch and positioned herself cross-legged to face the younger Noble.

The conversation then shifted to herself, and her gaze shifted to the ground for a moment. She had never exactly been the best at talking about herself, usually allowing her actions to speak for themselves. Then again, during her time in the rebellion, ice breaking was almost one hundred percent done with action since there wasn't always time for much else. "Training has been pretty different than what I'm used to. More formal. On the bright side, I have a couple years of it from before under my belt so I'm not going in blind, but it was much more... uh ... hands on." She struggled to find the right word for the teaching methods she'd been put through before her time in stasis, and that was the best she could do, which made her chuckle a bit. Really, it was more like trial by fire than anything.

Azzie found herself pausing for a moment, her gaze caught by Vera's eyes. She had noticed it before when she'd first arrived here, but hadn't truly been able to let it sink in with the state of her mind. She hadn't seen anything like it. "You've probably heard it before, but you have some of the most beautifully colored eyes I've seen," she said before she could stop herself in fear it might come off wrong. It was the truth, though, and she definitely deserved to hear it. The way her eyes were split almost perfectly in half with greens and ambers looked almost like a landscape itself, which was fascinating to her.

Vera smirked at Azurine's description of her training and leaned back against the couch, resting an arm along the backrest. "Yeah, Mom doesn't play around when it comes to training," she said, her tone carrying a mix of humor and pride. "She'll push you hard, but if you stick with it, you'll come out stronger. No shortcuts with her, that's for sure."

As Azurine continued and mentioned her eyes, Vera blinked in surprise, the compliment catching her off guard. A soft smile spread across her lips, and her posture shifted slightly, as if she were unconsciously basking in the kind words. "Thanks," she said, her voice warm with a hint of shy amusement. "Most people just think they're weird."

She leaned forward a little, resting her elbows on her knees. "They're part orange, like Mom's, and part silver, like my Dad's. The two colors kind of swirl together. I've always thought they were a little strange myself, but..." She shrugged, her smile growing. "It's nice to hear someone thinks they're beautiful." And Vera herself was proud of them, too. They represented the bond between her parents and nothing mattered more to Vera than her family.

Vera then paused for a moment, still watching Azurine closely.

"Hmm..." she began, "What do you like doing for fun? When Mom isn't making you run laps."
