OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a rather unique location for the Codex competition

SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Mobius One
  • Classification: Train City
  • Location: Netherworld
  • Affiliation: Makesh Cartel
  • Population: Heavy.
  • Demographics: Primarily alien species native to Raykka. These include Raykkans, Dalan, Xykan and more. Mobius One also has smaller populations of Hutt Space species, but these are a distinct minority.
  • Wealth: Low. While Mobius One transports a lot of valuable material, the denizens of the city train are poor. They consist mostly of the working, blue-collar class. There is a distinct shift the closer one comes to the lower levels of the train however. The dark, deep hot zones are the homes of the Raykkan administrators. These places are opulent, cater to any of their whims and possess any comfort a Raykkan might want for. Of course, their definition of comfort differs from most regular sentients.
  • Stability: Medium. As with most Raykkan creations stability is relatively high, but can shift at a moment's notice. Everyone looks out for themselves. Everyone is looking for a way to climb up the hierarchy. The workers are being worked to death, the Raykkans are scheming against one another, turn-over is high.
  • Freedom & Oppression: Oppression runs deep throughout the working sphere of the Mobius. Regular check-points throughout the city train, mandatory curfews, food and resource quotas. On the flipside the Raykkans live it large. Their every desire is fulfilled with no delay.
  • Description: A contraption of metal, smoke and ash, the Mobius One is typical Raykkan-ingenuity in a nutshell. A city always on the move, always producing and ferrying goods in between various stopping points. The moment the Raykkans discovered the Netherworld, they knew opportunity when they saw it. They established a handful of colonies (mining, industrial sites and more) and laid metal tracks in between. This railroad cuts through habitats, displaces native spirits and can be heard for miles and miles. It stops for nothing, it always keeps moving and on-board is stolen wealth and hopeless productivity.
NETHERWORLD INFORMATION

  • Lucidity: At first the Mobius One was as affected by the Netherworld as any other location within. The rules of physics were dodgy, things vanished and appeared, spirits were rampant, but as time went on something changed. More and more the iron beast started to assert itself. Reality became more real around it. Whenever it cuts through an area, it becomes more solid, more focused... and especially more Raykka. Almost as if the Mobius One is slowly gaining sentience from its presence within the Netherworld. Almost like it pulls in its own home into this place, to feel more comfortable. It has been known to cut through an area and in its wake it leaves the after-image of a Raykka place. A toxic jungle, a sandy waste, the relief of an underground city crawling with strange aliens. It always fades away, but at least for a few minutes it feels real and presses away the immediate strange surroundings of the Netherworld.
  • Hostility: The railway cuts through large swaths of the Netherworld. The denizen attitude shifts. Sometimes they are placid and relaxed. Sometimes they are demonic hordes wishing for the blood of their enemies. They have one thing in common though: they all hate the Mobius. It cuts through their territories, it warps the area around it and repulses them in equal measures. The train has to deal with regular assaults on it. The Raykkans figure that is the cost of operating.
POINTS OF INTEREST

CREEPING GARDENS
On the rooftop of Mobius One is a greenery. Forests sampled from Raykka grow there in abundance. These are the living places of the Dalan population. It is eerily silent there, as if even the native species hold their breath, lest they draw attention to themselves. The forest is dark and oppressive. Every once in a while the silence is broken by strangled cries that get cut off almost immediately. The Dalan need to grow, after all, and there is no better ground for their saplings than living mammal bio-mass.

LUMIN DISTRICT
Most rich always climb up high. Raykkans? They dig deep to get comfortable. Lumin District is a prime example of that. Hugging close to the dark, hot zones of Mobius One, the district has everything a Raykkan needs. Smog, ash, humidity and hot temperatures. Much of Mobius' wealth is concentrated here. There are exclusive eating clubs, smoke halls, dedicated communication hubs that send data-streams back to Raykka-controlled rifts. Boutiques filled with sourced local samples, bazaars where captured spirits are traded for one purpose or the other. Tasteful depravity, a Raykkan's favorite.

SECURITY
High. The rails are lined with Spirit d-Emitters, ensuring that their immediate surroundings are clear from regular spirit manifestations and the sort. Sadly there are gaps here and there, because Makesh wasn't able to spare complete coverage. Blame budget cuts and a lack of administrative willpower to fix the situation. This means that every once in a while things turn weird. A flood of spirits suddenly rushing in, causing some mayhem that needs to be put-down.

Other than that this is a big hulking riding city made of metals. There isn't a lot that can stop it in its tracks, which are protected by regular turrets and shielding systems.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The moment the Raykkans became aware of the Netherworld, they knew there was money to be made there.

In their defense? They saw money everywhere. The first colony established by the Raykkans wasn't all that successful. In fact... it was kind of a disaster. Overrun with angry spirits within the first week. Workers running rampant and crazed. Administrators committing suicide left, right. It wasn't great. The creation of the d-Emitters helped, but the sheer size of the Netherworld was frustrating and annoying. Picture trying to exploit an entire galaxy without a ship. Then magnify that into a dimension, but without any reasonable transportation.

Raykkans are nothing if not industrious and persistent though.

The first Mobius was smaller in scope. Just a small ferry train, but it was a start... and from there it snowballed. More workers were imported, more administrators were brought over. The latter demanded comfort. The former needed space. As Mobius One grew, so did its effect on the Netherworld around it. It shouldn't surprise anyone that arriving into a mystical new region filled with chaos and wonder.... the denizens of Raykka manage to turn a slice of it into something mundane.

Evil, corrupted, but mundane.

And so the hell-train choo choo's forward.

Making everything just a little less wonderful... and a little more profitable.
