OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: Necropolis
  • Classification: This is a predominantly underground bunker-like 'city' -- No more the size of a small town comparatively, but still immensely respectable, and is primarily outfitted to house cadavers that act as glorified flower boxes.
  • Location: Confracta, Western Continent
  • Affiliation: The Labyrinthian | The Second Triumvirate
  • Accessibility: Necropolis is an incredibly important location on Confracta. Its location is a secret to those not from the world, and to show an outsider the way to Necropolis without prior, documented permission is seen as borderline treasonous against the planet itself. Even then, if a local Confractan is not accompanied by a member of the Labyrinthian, they will not be granted access to Necropolis. As the structure is underground and is sequestered deep in winding valleys, you will need to hike or use technology/the Force to reach Necropolis without spending days.
  • Description: This strange structure is located within Confracta's western mountain ranges. Truthfully not far from the northern spear of the Banded Forge, this so-called place of the dead has been carved into the rock and spirals for miles underground in order to provide an adequate resting place for the dead, and adequate growing conditions for the Maze bloom flowers which Labyrinthian cultivates. To protect Confracta's most valuable natural resource Necropolis is guarded by Triumvirate soldiers posted on special duty-- They refer to these men & women as 'Skeletons' due to their secret assignment and proximity to the deceased --and the members of the Labyrinthian itself, many of whom are Force-Sensitive Knights. As Necropolis is literally chiselled into a mountain, it is accessible via a bridge that spans a valley and leads directly to the gates.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • The Gates: The opening to Necropolis is a large Steelstone emplacement aboveground that marks the opening to Necropolis. All harvested Maze passes across the bridge that spans the valley and acts as a way to ensure all visitors to Necropolis can be seen visually by the Skeletons on duty. All the dead of Confracta will also pass through here in a mass-burial sense, those of high-ranking usually being transported by family personally. Flames burn here day and night to symbolize the never-ending cycle of life and rebirth, as death is actually not something associated with Necropolis too often.
  • The Catacombs: Upon descending the hand-carved stairs that take you into Necropolis proper, you are presented with nigh-endless catacombs. It's here that the Maze flowers are grown from the bodies of those who have passed, cared for by the members of Labyrinthian with the absolute highest respect; as to house a Maze flower once you have expired is both to experience 'rebirth' and to achieve enlightenment, both of which are held in extremely high regard.
  • Labyrinthian Barracks: As Necropolis is also home to the Labyrinthian-- Confracta & The Second Triumvirate's Force Order --There is a more modernized section of the underground locale that is dedicated to sheltering the members of the order. This is where Steelstone translates to Durasteel, appearing more like a clandestine military base than a home of religion.
  • Library Labyrinthia: A large underground archival hall, Library Labyrinthia contains everything from records of the deceased, documentation on how to care for Maze flowers, ritualist information and Labyrinthian's own observations of and on the Force.

SECURITY
Necropolis has High security. It is not impenetrable, but it is extremely well defended against attackers and outsiders.

  • Triumvirate Detachment | 'Skeletons': Woe be to those soldiers who are assigned to Necropolis, for their job is rough and unpleasant. Roughly 250 Triumvirate infantrymen pulled for special assignment due to aptitude or extreme skill are garrisoned at Necropolis at any given time, awkwardly co-existing with the Labyrinthian who run the city of bones. Ideally, you would want a strong stomach, for the scent of decay is overwhelming the deeper you go... These men are equipped with standard weaponry and armour and are the equivalent of Stormtroopers.
  • Labyrinthian Knights: As Labyrinthian doubles as both Confracta and the Triumvirate's Force Order, and they are based out of Necropolis, it's obvious to assume that there is a presence of Force-Sensitive warriors on the grounds at any given time to repel an attack. At least 400 of these specialized protectors are on the grounds at any time to assist in tending to the delicate Maze plant and to also, in the event of a catastrophe, protect Necropolis with their lives. They are the equivalent in skill to a Sith Knight/Jedi Knight.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Necropolis has stood for at least a millennia. Through constant upkeep by its inhabitants-- The Labyrinthian --and general preservation, it has managed to remain as a stronghold and bastion of revitalization and of the Force. It's unclear which species actually constructed the first incarnation of Necropolis, but it was soon enough taken over by the Triumvirate when the Maze bloom sent the entire world of Confracta into a spiritual and cultural schism. The original purpose of Necropolis lost to time, it has since been used as a greenhouse for Maze blooms, planted on the still-warm bodies of deceased Confracta locals, and tended to by the members of the religious order sworn to their care. Upon the arrival of a Jedi who had become lost in the Unknown Regions, the Labyrinthian would shift focus and straddle between caring for the Maze blooms and also being disciples in the Force, training with Form VI and learning to build double-bladed lightsabers with synthetic crystals, all based off one single Jedi.

During the Gulag plague, the Labyrinthian sealed themselves within Necropolis, to preserve their religion and culture. For 400 years they would endure the darkness and isolation, only emerging to collect supplies, bearing witness to the dormant nature of the other nations. Once the darkness lifted, the Triumvirate's first order of business was reaching Necropolis and parlaying with the Labyrinthian, official ties once more established.

Necropolis has now returned to it's ancient duty, as a place of rebirth for those who have passed, a place for the precious Maze flower to be cultivated, and a locale of study for the Force.
