Character Nealla Varr

Nealla Varr

APPEARANCE:
Without Armor

NAME: Nealla Varr

FACTION: The Mandalorians

RANK: De Facto Head of Clan Varr

SPECIES: Human

AGE: 28

SEX: Female

FORCE SENSITIVE: No

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:

Strength: Warrior Training- Nealla is Mando'ade, and as such has received significant combat training since she was old enough to wield a blaster. This means not only only that she is proficient in martial combat, but also that she is highly disciplined and able to keep her composure in high-stress situations. It takes a lot to break the nerve and resolve of a Mandalorian. In regards to combat skills, Nealla particularly favors heavy and close combat weapons.

Strength: Anti-Force User Specialization- Nealla's vendetta against the Sith has inspired her to invest considerable time to collecting lore on them and doing her research. While it's perhaps true that no amount of research and preparation can truly counter the Force, she has done everything in her power to close the gap. This includes both specialized equipment and tactics designed to maximize her chances of victory against Force Users and other lightsaber-wielding foes.

Weakness: Obsessed with Revenge- Nealla despises Sith, and has made it her mission in life to hunt them down. This all-consuming hatred can cloud her judgement and make her act against her better interests, and potentially even to the jeopardy of a mission. She is still a warrior, and has enough sense to not do something overwhelmingly foolish like attack multiple Sith by her lonesome, but if the opportunity arises to strike at her hated enemies, her honor demands her vengeance be carried out, and a Mandalorian is nothing without honor.

Weakness: Mistrustful of the Force- Though they may be the greatest ally she could ask for in her crusade, Nealla has little trust for the Jedi. As she sees it, they're just another religion of mystics, same as the Sith. While she understands that they have philosophical differences with the Sith, she also knows they can use their magics to cloud your mind and deceive you, and when one is capable of such trickery, how can one possibly be trusted?

APPEARANCE:

Standing at 5'9, with lean, compact muscle, Nealla strikes a distinctly feminine figure which belies both her physical strength and martial prowess. Her body carries an assortment of scars, from blaster bolts and blades both. Her hair is often worn loose in her free time, but tied back into a ponytail when on a job, to keep it neat under her helmet. She typically wears minimal makeup. While she likes to look good, just like most people, she also thinks that vanity is unbecoming of a Mandalorian, and she is frequently wearing a face-concealing helmet anyway.

BIOGRAPHY:

Raised by Aila and Revi of the Mandalorian Clan Varr, Nealla was brought up to live by the Resol'nare. Like many young adopted into the Mando'ade, she had been an orphan of war, young enough to have no memories of her biological parents. However, as per Mandalorian custom, those who raised her were her parents, no different than if she had been of their blood. Though she showed some curiosity about who her biological family had been over the years, and her parents had been more than willing to tell them what little they knew, she accepted Aila and Revi completely as her family, as they had never been anything short of loving and attentive mothers. That isn't to say they coddled her, of course. They were Mandalorians, and if she were to be raised as one as well, she would have to be taught to be a warrior. But, however strict, their parenting was nothing if not fair, and whatever hardships they put her through were always for her own betterment, and they made certain she knew that. They punished her when she misbehaved, but rewarded her when she did good, and always took the time to explain why what she did was bad or good.

Having left Mandalore at some unknown point in their history, long, long before Nealla's time, her clan had taken to a nomadic life, and so they never called one place home for very long. The one constant was her clan, her family. They made ends meet primarily by hiring themselves out as mercenaries, though they also produced some small number of craft products. On top of her combat skills, for example, Aila also enjoyed brewing ne'tra gal, and when they met with other clans, they'd often trade the excess along with whatever other goods and spoils they didn't have need of.

From early childhood, she was taught discipline, Mandalorian culture and values, and the Mando'a language, and as she grew older her curriculum expanded to include hand-to-hand combat, strategy and tactics, ranged combat, piloting and space combat, survival skills, basic combat medicine and, of course, wearing armor. She learned not only to fight in armor, but to treat it as a second skin, comfortable and familiar enough to sleep in if need be. Of all the skills she learned, she grew to particularly favor the thrill of engaging foes in close quarters combat, whether with melee weapons or short ranged weapons, as well as the heft and power of heavy weapons.

Aila was herself a close quarters combat specialist, and would spar frequently with her daughter in order to hone her skills. Joth, one of their clanmates, took to tutoring her in the use of heavy weapons. Revi, for her part, was a combat medic who had, in fact, met her future wife, in the line of duty after one of Aila's daring, and often foolhardy plans, featured some of its usual complications, and she wound up with a blaster bolt to the side. While Nealla lacked the zeal in her medical training that she possessed for Aila's close quarters combat instruction, Revi made damn sure that her daughter knew how to patch herself up if she got wounded in a fight.

Once she was 13 years of age, she underwent her verd'goten, the trial to test all the skills she'd learned, and to determine if she was worthy of being truly called Mando'ade. When the test was done, she had passed, and was now recognized as a true Mandalorian. As per tradition, the clan celebrated her victory, and she had her first drink of her mother's ale. Each of her mothers also had a special gift for her. Aila had spoken to the clan smith, and had a beskad saber forged for her daughter, while Revi gifted her with a jetpack that had belonged to her grandfather. Recognized as an adult, she began to take on more responsibility in the clan, and soon began to go on jobs without her parents. She began to hone her own distinct fighting style and specializations on the battlefield, all for the honor and wellbeing of her aliit, and for the mando'ade as a whole.

Upon taking one solo mission, she received word that another party from her clan had been contacted by someone claiming to be a Sith for a job. None of the clan particularly trusted those wizards, but credits are credits. She wished them honor and glory and left to take care of her own business. The job went well, but upon return, the clan failed to return her hails. When she made her landing, she found her home in ruins. Nealla quickly set out to look for survivors, but only managed to find a handful, all on death's door. There was no trace of her parents, but Joth was among the wounded.

Though his wounds were fatal, he clung to life long enough to tell Nealla what he knew. Her mothers had been among those who went off on the Sith's job, but they never reported back. Instead, an unknown band of hostiles had descended upon the camp, dressed in no discernable uniform. It had been an ambush, and though they had rallied as quickly as they could, and inflicted many casualties upon their attackers, they came too quickly and in too great a number, and the defenders were overrun before too long. The timing had been too convenient and only one conclusion could be drawn: their Sith client had betrayed them. Before he died, he bid her one final request: Find the hut'uun responsible for this, and make them pay for their treachery.

Nealla used her medical training to make his death as painless as she could, before going about to collect the bodies. Curiously, she noted, only the bodies of her own remained. She could only assume that the enemy had taken theirs to cover their tracks. Alone, she dug a mass grave to bury her clan in, trying to take some solace in knowing that a glorious death defending one's clan was a great and honorable end, and that they had all died Mando'ade, ensured a place in the manda. It proved cold comfort. While she buried the dead, she kept their armor. She replaced whichever pieces of her own armor that had been made from inferior materials, knowing full well that only beskar would suffice against a lightsaber's blade. What was left over, she hid away, either to find a future use for, or perhaps to pass on to the next generation some day, if ever a day came when she was able to begin rebuilding her clan.

She had precious little to go off of, she knew that. This meant she could not simply hunt down her quarry and slay them outright. Instead, she would have to take this slow. For the time being, she'd keep herself afloat with what jobs she could take, all the while, looking for any lead, and any opportunity to hurt Sith.
