STRENGTHS

Extreme Anti-Armor Lethality - The MX-170 was designed to carry a set of Fire-linked heavy mass driver cannons, which provide the vehicle with devastating penetration capability, allowing it to punch through heavy armor, shields, and reinforced hulls with fewer, more decisive hits than energy-based weapons.

High Speed and Maneuverability for a Heavy Platform - Advanced repulsorlift systems and gravmotor refinements allow the MX-170 to reposition, flank, and disengage faster than most heavy armor, enabling hunter-killer tactics rather than static engagements.

Limited Infantry Deployment Capability - Like predecessor designs, these vehicles retain a rear hatch that allows for rapid insertion or extration of up to four Mandalorians for reconnaissance, recovery, or securing critical objectives during armored engagements.

Tank Hunter - The MX-170 was designed to operate in fast-moving armored packs or as forward hunters screening heavier formations, and it excels at seeking out and eliminating priority vehicle targets when working in a group of two or more.

Anti-Vehicle Ordnance - Its dual ordnance launchers - loaded with armor-piercing shells - provide secondary strike options against hardened targets, allowing the vehicle to engage multiple armored threats without relying solely on its main cannons.

WEAKNESSES

Low Defensive Endurance - Designed with lightweight armor and limited shielding to provide increased speed and maneuverability, these vehicles have been rendered highly vulnerable to sustained fire, heavy weapons, and concentrated anti-armor attacks.

Limited Passenger Capacity - The MX-170 is only capable of carrying up to four Mandalorians, which further restricts its usefulness as a transport or support vehicle compared to lighter variants such as the MX-150.

Inefficient Against Soft Targets - Its primary weapons are optimized for armored threats, making the MX-170 less effective against dispersed infantry or irregular forces.

Structural Weak Point at Rear Hatch - The infantry deployment hatch remains a structural weak point, compromising rear armor integrity. A direct hit can result in catastrophic internal damage or crew casualties, potentially rendering the vehicle inoperable.

High Dependence on Position and Support - The MX-170 is often deployed alongside other variants of the MX-series as well as friendly armored vehicles. DESCRIPTION

The MX-170 Type Heavy Fighter Tank represents the Mandalorian Empire's refinement of the Hunter-class concept into a dedicated armored execution platform. Manufactured by Aether Systems, the MX-170 traces its lineage through the TX-170 Hunter-class and earlier Saber-class designs, but abandons their balanced approach in favor of speed, lethality, and decisive anti-armor dominance. Unlike traditional heavy tanks, the MX-170 is not built to hold ground. Its repulsorlift propulsion and high-output gravmotors allow it to move aggressively across the battlefield, hunting enemy armor and striking from unexpected angles. Fire-linked heavy mass driver cannons deliver catastrophic kinetic impact, capable of breaching even reinforced vehicle hulls with minimal exposure time. Supporting armor-piercing ordnance ensures the tank can engage multiple hardened targets in rapid succession. This extreme offensive focus, however, does come at a cost. Defensive systems are intentionally minimized, leaving the MX-170 reliant on mobility, situational awareness, and Mandalorian combined arms for survival. The rear-facing infantry hatch provides limited deployment capability for small teams, but remains a known structural vulnerability. In Mandalorian service, the MX-170 is employed as a hunter, not a shield - used to shatter enemy armored spearheads, collapse breakthroughs, and ensure that hostile tanks do not survive long enough to dictate the flow of battle. When deployed correctly, it is less a vehicle and more a weapon, striking hard, fast, and without hesitation.
