STRENGTHS

Exceptional Speed and Maneuverability - The MX-160 is the fastest and most agile platform in the MX-series, capable of rapid terrain traversal, evasive maneuvers, and precision repositioning well beyond heavier variants.

Optimized Reconnaissance Capability - Advanced sensor suites, aerial scanners, and surveillance taggers provide the MX-160 to detect enemy movements, identify ambushes, and relay battlefield intelligence to friendly units.

Effective Light-Combat Armament - Each vehicle is equipped with a set of fire-linked R-90C medium blaster cannons that provide sufficient firepower to repel infantry, light vehicles, and hostile scouts. The armament also includes an onboard mortar launcher that allows indirect fire using armor-piercing or thermal detonator rounds, which can be used to harass or suppress enemies, or clear obstacles without direct engagement.

Elimination of Rear Structural Weak Point - The removal of the troop compartment and rear hatch has eliminated a major vulnerability that is present in the MX-150 and MX-170 platforms.

Low Profile and Reduced Silhouette - A lighter construction and compact design make the MX-160 harder to visually track and target compared to full-fighter tanks, increasing survivability during scouting operations.

Open-Top Turret Vulnerability - The exposed canopy of the main turret leaves the gunner susceptible to shrapnel, small-arms fire, overhead threats, and environmental hazards.

Limited Direct Firepower - While versatile, the MX-160's weapons are insufficient against medium and heavy armor, requiring avoidance rather than confrontation.

No Passenger Capacity - These vehicles were designed for speed and maneuverability, necessitating the removal of the passenger compartment, which limits mission flexibility and prevents infantry insertion or extraction.

Very Low Defensive Endurance - The MX-160 platform is designed and built around speed and maneuverability, resulting in the use of lightweight armor and limited shielding during manufacturing. This offers minimal protection against heavy weapons, anti-vehicle fire, or sustained combat.

DESCRIPTION

The MX-160 Type Scout Tank is the Mandalorian Empire's answer to the need for rapid battlefield awareness and forward reconnaissance in high-intensity war zones. Manufactured by Aether Systems, the MX-160 is a specialized scout variant of the MX-150 platform, drawing additional inspiration from the historic Scout-class 2-M repulsortank used alongside earlier Saber-class formations. Stripped of troop transport capability and heavy armament, the MX-160 prioritizes speed, maneuverability, and information dominance. Its repulsorlift propulsion and refined gravmotor systems allow it to outrun most armored threats, enable deep reconnaissance, flanking surveillance, and rapid withdrawal before enemy forces can respond. Advanced sensor arrays and surveillance tools allow it to identify enemy movements, mark targets, and guide follow-on strikes with precision. While lightly armed, the MX-160 is not defenseless. Fire-linked medium blaster cannons provide direct-fire protection against infantry and light vehicles, and the mortar launcher offers indirect fire options for harassment, suppression, or demolition using armor-piercing or thermal detonator rounds. This allows the vehicle to shape the battlefield without committing to confrontation. The removal of the rear-facing troop hatch has eliminated a known structural weakness present in other MX variants; however, this improvement comes with a trade-off: the open-top turret canopy exposes crew members to overhead threats and environmental dangers. As such, the MX-160 is not intended for prolonged combat. To the Mandalorians, the MX-160 serves as the eyes of the armored formation - scouting ahead, probing defenses, and ensuring that heavier units advance with full situational awareness. It is not a frontline combatant, but without it, the frontline advances blindly.
