Strengths:
  • Can land on planets
  • Heavy long-range firepower
  • Heavy shielding
  • Small bow-on or astern target profile
Weaknesses:
  • Poor point-defense: it is therefore vulnerable to enemy attack craft
  • Very slow: some frigates can overtake and flank it
  • Firepower consolidated in a single hardpoint: it is thus vulnerable to other corvettes capable of outrunning the main battery's traverse
  • Once the main turret is destroyed, a reactor breach will likely ensue, killing the ship along with it
  • Once the armor is penetrated, a reactor breach will likely ensue, killing the ship along with it
  • Easy to capture if a hull breach doesn't kill the ship: the internal space mostly gave way to the reactors, giving the ship limited space for crewmembers
  • Low hyperdrive range
Description: The Mustafar-class is, simply put, designed for one job: picking off enemy capital ships from long ranges as a defensive ship, thanks to its main battery sporting one triple Toprawa turret, which are normally mounted on ships multiple times its size. However, because mounting such a big consolidation weapon on a single hardpoint, such a small hull is very taxing on the reactors, which required additional design sacrifices to be made, even accounting for the chassis. Nearly all the internal space is given to the reactors and double-redundancy shield generators, allowing it to withstand fire that would come from ships they were intended to fight. As a result, security detail onboard those ships is minimal, and its crew complement is equally minimalistic. Another consequence is that hyperdrive is very slow (class 5) and has very short range: it can only cross about one hex and a half before requiring refueling, and, compared to other ships in its size class, it is also very slow and ponderous.

That said, while capable of taking a few hits from barrel consolidation weapons before the armor is penetrated, concentrating so much firepower in one hardpoint renders it vulnerable to attack craft: if an enemy manages to destroy the main turret, or cause the armor to be penetrated in that area, a reactor breach would likely ensue, killing the ship along with it.

An interesting concept to be sure.

I think it worth noting that with all the armament focused on one big heavy mount, anything that can outrun the traverse rate of that mount can pretty easily kill this ship, and that could potentially include everything up to light frigates. You've got a note about it being weak to strike craft, but given the heavy defenses I think the critical vulnerability here is really to other corvettes that can close range and stay out of the line of fire.
