Hyperdrive Class: N/A
Strengths:
• Slicer-resistant Design. Multi-layer communications encryption and proprietary software handling protocols make this a difficult droid to slice.
• Size. Smaller than the average starfighter, this is one hard target to hit.
Weaknesses:
• Droid Control Ship Required. Like the old B-1 Battle Droid, these units require a remote command and control circuit to be active in order to be operable.
• Short Range Fighter. No hyperdrive means that this starfighter is carrier-dependent.
• Vulnerable to Ion Energy. Because it has no human pilot, any disruption of the onboard computer systems will render the battle droid inoperable.
• Flight Systems Dependent. Unlike the Vulture Droids of the CIS, the M.V.S.P. Mk II isn't capable of terrestrial movement or locomotion. If its repulsor propulsion is disabled or it is otherwise rendered flight inoperable, the battle droid will be immobilized.
• Peculiar Accent. Because of the use of O/S Cresh, other droids have a hard time understanding this droid.
Description: Corellia Digital operates a commercial fleet of lightly armed Ruisto-class Exploration Vessels and Liorre-class Super Freighters. Without the manpower or resources, or desire, to train or equip a paramilitary or private security force, the company has relied on droid-based automation to alleviate manning and training requirements in protecting and operating its trade fleet. After fielding the Multi-Vector Self-Propelled Battle Droid Mk I in a surprise attack at Chandrila in 844 ABY, the need for a replaceable security asset to serve as escort and defense of the commercial shipping and survey operations was never more clear to the company. The M.V.S.P. Mk II builds on the developmental success of its predecessor while addressing some of its faults. This, in turn, creates new faults for the Mk II.
In lieu of the Mark I's torpedo tubes and long-range proton torpedoes, the Mark II carried only laser cannons and heavy blasters, marking its place as a close-aboard starfighter. This thing is engineered for getting into the blood and mud of aerial dog-fighting, not protracted or "over the horizon" long range combat. Also unlike its predecessor, the Mark II does not operate independently. Instead, it is tethered to a droid control ship. This limits the effective range of the fighter to within communications range of the carrier or control ship, and anything which disrupts starship communications will render the starfighter inoperable as a result.
