Description:
The Mogami-class was created to fill the role of a heavier escort carrier within the Asahi fleet. The ship class features heavy guns mounted dorsal and ventral to allow it to fire fore, aft, port, and starboard with all possible guns, a design truly unique to the Asahian fleet, at least as a whole. Ten batteries of various anti-starfighter/anti-missile guns festoon the ship to protect the vessel from as many angles as possible to give the ship excellent point defense. The sizable hangar features one squadron each of Taka-class Starfighters and Hagewashi-class Bombers with a quartet of gunships and an reinforced squadron of Iguru-class Interceptors to round out the starfighter compliment with an eye towards versatility. All in all, the Mogami is an excellent, balanced carrier vessel more than able to support the Asahian fleet in both carrier and point defense roles.
The ship has its faults like any other, despite its perks. The carrier is fragile, as are most escort support vessels, and performs poorly as a front line vessel. The Mogami's fighter compliment, while versatile, is limited in roles once committed as their numbers are relatively few in comparison to most other, larger, Asahian ships. Finally, the Mogami's capital guns, while heavy, are both few in number and unable to target all guns above or below the ship, due to their placement on the hull.
