OOC: To provide depth to our faction in preparation for active recruitment.

Development Thread: Will be made upon request.

Manufacturer: The Tenebris Triumvirate

Model: Mark I Biclopean Visage -Winterized, Plastoid Composite, Arctic-class Dementor Legion Armor

Affiliation: The Tenebris Triumvirate

  • Plastoid Composite Helmet, Knee Pads and Arm Pads
  • Synthetic Cloth

Classification: Winterized

Weight: 13 kg.

Quality: 5

Special Features:
  • Winterized body glove, completely sealed against the environment by helmet, with breather hood mask, and an airtight synthetic cloth overlay, provides complete insulation from the cold.
  • Extended life support systems build into the chest and back components, hidden beneath the protective insulation of further synthetic coating, is run by an internal computer from which the wearer can monitor the heating unit and power cell, both of which are buried between the large pack worn on the user's back.
  • The Power Cell, while initially provided to energize the heating unit, can be used to provide power to other equipment as well.
  • Terrain-grip boots prevents slipping across treacherous patches of ice.
  • The visor is also winterized, to prevent snow and frost from caking the user's vision.
  • Light armor is designed for the carry of heavy utility equipment, primarily composed of survival supplies but also developed in mind for basic supply hauling in the midst of the colony's construction.
  • Utility belt across the waist provides additional room for smaller equipment and weaponry.

Description:
While more professional avenues to more sophisticated equipment is readily available to the Tenebris Triumvirate, the faction's Grand Protector and head of military, Astoach, haughtily insisted upon the development of a nationalist pride by refusing the "outsourcing of Triumvirate jobs." Thus, through a network of compromises that ensued, development of the Mark I Arctic-class Armor began, largely on behalf of the Triumvirate Military's Minister of Science. The prototype armor was a scientific marvel, impressively built with advanced stages of cybernetic, biomechanical technology dedicated to ushering the dawn of a new era. Yet, as the Minister adorned it, the suit fluctuated, electrocuting him and effectively self-destructing subsequent his death, leaving the Triumvirate without access to the beloved herald of their new age and the armor's design. The Triumvirate, distraught by the permanent loss of their revolutionary design and scientist, were shattered over the news, and from this, by the lackluster grace of his heart, the Grand Protector himself oversaw a new prototype, the BV-W Arctic-class Armor, which was built upon his own "splendid" schematics he drew up in between coffee breaks.
While many disregard the death of the Minister to a freak accident, rumors have already begun to circulate that it was an act of sabotage by the Grand Protector. While the instigation of this has yet to become clear, some theorize it was a simple matter of creative differences.
While it may be an impressive display for one so inexperienced in the development process of such technology, the success can primarily be attributed by its heavy influence of the ancient Snow Trooper armor design of the Galactic Civil War era. While arguably a downgrade, mainly through the sluggish, bootleg software programmed into the life support computer and the distinct lack of further protection to the user against enemy weaponry, its cheap nature and arguably more comfortable fitting in the face of other designs -- except when extensive movement is involved -- the BV-W Arctic-class armor would be a popular debut to the Triumvirate Legion line of military armor. Issued to all soldiers stationed along the Triumvirate's Hokage Fleet upon Hoth, it was developed in mind for protection against the terrain as the wasteland's deadly temperatures shift through both day and night. In addition, should Triumvirate forces ever find themselves on an additional glacial planet, this armor would also be used up until the development of a Mark II set.
Strengths:
  • Inexpensive: The armor, being produced with minimalistic content save for the plastoid helmet and life support systems, is cheap to produce. This is assisted primarily through the gaping lack of protection provided by the armor to the wearer, but as the equipment was designed for assisting colonial development upon Hoth, open combat was ruled out as an expectation for the soldiers.
  • Comfy: Being primarily made of cloth, despite its overbearing weight for what it provides in defense, the Arctic Legion Armor is very comfortable in comparison to heavier sets that attempt to balance protection against enemy attacks in addition to the terrain.

Weaknesses:
  • Over Encumbering: The sheer thickness of the duel full-body suits in addition to the life support systems, as well as what other supplementary supplies the wearer may carry, makes the suit wholly inadequate in sharp contrast to its lacking depth of protection. Falling over in the suit can be a dangerous -- not to mention comical -- ordeal and while measures have been taken to inhibit this, such as the boot grips, the suit is largely incapable of traversing the deep banks of snow and lakes of thin ice.
  • Small Battery: The power cell, responsible for running the suit's internal computer, has an infamously low storage supply and has the tendency to drain within a period of 2-4 hours. While largely brushed off as a development oversight, in truth the design was intentional in order to discourage desertion into the frozen wastes of Hoth.
  • No Protection: As stressed previously, the suit provides little to no direct protection against anything other than the cold. While in part to reduce the entire price of producing the armor, the bulky, ramshackle design of its insulation by untrained hands, with little access to formal production contributed to this vastly fatal flaw.
