IMPERIAL CONFEDERATION
CHOLGANNA,
OUTER RIM TERRITORIES
TimHzFP.png

Sularen remained seated behind his desk as the doors to his office opened and Barragh Nenn stepped in. The Hand of the Empress had just returned from an undercover mission to Desevaro to gather information on the so-called First Sith Conclave, a gathering of Sith from across the galaxy called with the singular objective of launching a Great Hunt, a galaxy-wide campaign against the Jedi and their supporters. With the Imperial Confederation still reeling from it's defeat at Brosi, Sularen had seen this "Great Hunt" as the perfect opportunity to revitalize the Imperial Confederation's military after such a demoralizing defeat, by launching a campaign to suppress Sith activity outside their Blackwall and pave the way towards a second offensive into the Thandon Star Cluster.

However if Sularen's plans were to succeed, then he would require vital information such as who would be leading this Great Hunt and which planets they would target. If he could gather such information in advance of the first strikes launched by the Sith, then the Imperial Confederation would be in the perfect opportunity to end the Sith Great Hunt in it's infancy and reaffirm the Confederation's power in the galaxy at a time where people were starting to perceive it as a weak faction and a failed experiment.

As Barragh Nenn walked up to his desk, the Supreme Commander clasped his hands and leaned forward addressing the Hand of the Empress. "Ah, Barragh Nenn. Welcome back." Sularen said as he greeted him. "What news do you have to report concerning the so-called Sith Conclave on Desevaro?" the Supreme Commander inquired, getting straight to the point as he was eager to learn more about what the Sith were planning.

The Umbaran seemed to float, his shadowcloak covering him entirely save his head as he crossed the threshold into the office of Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen .

Proceeding ahead he would have come to a halt at the fore of the desk that the Supreme Commander sat behind. A tilt of the head made it clear that Barragh was regarding Sularen prior to answering his questions; it was rare for the Umbaran to speak before taking the time to consider his words...

"Desevaro was engaging."

...he'd chosen the word on purpose.

His right hand would emerge from the center of his cloak, arm stretching outwards. It clutched a holoprojector which he'd set on Sularen's desk, activating it so that it replayed images of the individuals in attendance at the Conclave. There were many familiar faces, the two Emperors of the Galactic Empire and the Sith Order respectively among others.

"The Sith are not unified. A Kaggath was called against Solipsis, challenging his sovereignty by several detractors. The Galactic Emperor likewise made his own challenge against Darth Empyrean which went unanswered at the time."

...his tone remained largely indifferent however he did remark with some certainty that...

"The Sith are composed of innumerable egos which prefer to lead rather than follow. They may be at one anothers throats longer than any of them are capable of participating in a 'Great Hunt'".

Engaging. It was an interesting choice of a word from the Hand of the Empress to describe what he had witnessed on Desevaro. Then, Nenn would pull out a holoprojector from his cloak before placing it on Sularen's desk. After placing the holoprojector on his desk, the Hand of the Empress would activate it with the holoprojector soon displaying the images of various individuals who attended the Conclave which included prominent Sith Lords such as Darth Carnifex, Darth Solipsis and Darth Empyrean.

After leaving Sularen to examine the contents of the holoprojector for a few seconds, Nenn would finally speak up giving the Supreme Commander a brief summary of the events that had transpired on Desevaro. The Sith lacked unity and it appeared that the Conclave once called to unite the Sith and launch a grand galactic campaign against the Jedi, had devolved into infighting with Sith trying to assert themselves as leaders rather then following other Sith in destroying the Jedi. If a Great Hunt was indeed launched, then it was most likely going to fail to inflict any significant lasting damage against the Jedi before succumbing to infighting and falling apart.

"Such a shame." the Supreme Commander responded. "After the Raid at Kattada i had expected so much more from the Sith Conclave and their so-called Great Hunt." he responded. "At the very least, the Sith Order and the Galactic Empire will be at each other's throats given Solipsis's challenge giving us more time to prepare to take further action against both factions." he continued. "Outside the more notorious Sith such as Carnifex, Solipsis and Empyrean, which attendees of the Conclave caught your interest the most?"

The Holoprojector would show events during the kaggath deemed the most significant.

Images flashed, displayed by the projector. Among the images were faces that Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen would likely recognize from intelligence and others he may not.

When the Supreme Commander asked if anyone else had stood out to the Umbaran he would extend his hand to point, the projections slowing in response as though he had willed them to do so...

"The Vahlan, Hasuras Na-Gerra Hasuras Na-Gerra ."

...was his initial response...

"A Warlord, I believe. I have heard he leads a large Clan engaging in piracy and other minor skirmishes. He has promise."

This was merely the observation of the Umbaran who offered his opinion however he commanded ample expertise in reading others and had an understanding of their potential.

As images flashed across the projections again he would point out several more...

"This one."

...he pointed out an image of Darth Anathemous Darth Anathemous before stating...

"She did not participate in the violence. She may have secluded herself with others who sought to discuss the Great Hunt further."

Images sped by again stopping on several more...

"And these."

...he pointed out Mercy Mercy , Quinn Varanin Quinn Varanin and Darth Avida Darth Avida . There were others but the Umbaran's arm receded back into the confines of the shadowcloak indicating he did not find them so noteworthy.

Actually there was one more, Darth Virelia Darth Virelia but Barragh kept that name for himself.

Sularen listened as Nenn went over various individuals that had caught his interest the most, examining the picture of each individual carefully and taking note of the observations made by Nenn on each individual. Sularen recognized some of the names such as Hasuras Na-Gerra Hasuras Na-Gerra , Mercy Mercy and Quinn Varanin Quinn Varanin while others such as Darth Anathemous Darth Anathemous and Darth Avida Darth Avida were unknown to him.

What did catch the Supreme Commander's interest the most was the Vahlan Warlord, Hasuras Na-Gerra. The Imperial Secret Service was well aware of him, given his Raid of Hapes amidst the backdrop of the escalating Core Wars and his subsequent marriage to the recently coronated Queen of Hapes Aurellia Aurellia . Out of all the individuals Nenn had pointed out Na-Gerra had the highest public profile atleast to Sularen's knowledge and the fact that Nenn spoke highly of him only increased the Supreme Commander's interest on the Warlord.

"The Vahlan Warlord." Sularen stated. "I've heard of him and his exploits from the Imperial Security Service's files on him. He most certainly has potential" he added. "Although i do not know how we could make use of it his talents or if we can even effectively approach him in the first place" he continued. "Is there anything of note that you observed from him during the Conclave?"

The Core Worlds seemed to be of great interest to many individuals at the moment. It helped that they were influential boasting manpower, industry and infrastructure.

He'd heard the term the 'Core Wars' used recently. Dubious but not inaccurate.

When he answered Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen it was done so thoughtfully as though he were recalling what he had witnessed but also interpreting what had occured...

"The Vahlan may seek to supplant the Emperors as Lord of the Sith."

...or the Flame of Vahl if that was your preference...

"He is powerful in the force. His political influence will also gain now that he has entered into a union with the Royal Hapan House."

The Umbaran himself was not a particularly powerful force user, use of the force among his people was considered uncommon or rare however his training ensured he was able to gauge the ability of others. Hasuras Na-Gerra Hasuras Na-Gerra could undoubtedly be a powerful ally or enemy to the Imperial Confederation dependant on where his own ambitions lay. It seemed he had no small amount of powerful allies that gravitated around him as well.

Of course Barragh protected his own thoughts. He favored the Vahlan though to what end was unknown.

The Holoprojector would deactivate once it had run through a reel of the events, the Supreme Commander could replay it if he desired.

Tipping his head the Umbaran remarked...

"Let us speak plainly, Supreme Commander."

...he paused, considering before speaking...

"It is no detriment to us if the Sith hunt the Jedi nor is it a detriment regardless of which side is the victor. This is a dance that has played out countless times historically. The Imperial Confederation would do best to safeguard its own interests, not every Sith wears the colors of the Galactic Empire."

...the Inquisitorious was, obviously a powerful faction used to root out rogue Sith, etc within Confederation borders and beyond but the Umbarans thoughts always turned to what they may have missed.

"The Vahlan may seek to supplant the Emperors as Lord of the Sith. He is powerful in the force. His political influence will also gain now that he has entered into a union with the Royal Hapan House."
Now this was interesting to know. While Sularen was well aware of Na-Gerra's marriage to the Queen of Hapes, the possibility of him having ambitions to replace the Sith Emperors in the Core and beyond the Blackwall was extremely intriguing. Already he had a considerable naval force that had engaged in piracy recently and now his political influence was slowly growing thanks to his status as the King-Consort of Hapes.

The Vahlan Warlord most certainly had the potential to be a powerful ally or adversary to the Confederation, although that would depend on the extent of his ambitions and the means to achieve them. For now, it would be best if the Imperial Security Service kept an eye on his activities just to know whether down the line the Confederation could rely on him as a potential ally or would have to expect opposition from him as an adversary.

"You're right, there is no detriment to us if the Sith and the Jedi continue fighting amongst themselves, after all we do not associate with either group." Sularen responded. "However this 'dance' of theirs has caused way too much harm for the galaxy. The vast majority of the major wars in the past half-century has been trigged by Force-Sensitive such as the Third Imperial Civil War, the Second Great Hyperspace War and the Core Wars." he further explained.

"Our mandate has been and always will be the pursuit of order across a galaxy that has been constantly wounded by chaos and destruction and both the Sith and Jedi are an obstacle to that mandate. The Sith's so-called Great Hunt would have further destabilized the galaxy by targeting multiple worlds, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake and displacing millions of people. However fortunately for us, their egotistical nature had mitigated the potential threat and fallout of such a campaign." The Supreme Commander added, pausing for a few seconds before offering a simple inquiry.

"Speaking of which, did the Sith ever manage to reach a consensus on what targets to strike and who would lead the Great Hunt or was the chaotic nature of their clash of egos far too great to allow such a discussion?"

The Umbaran did not answer Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen initially, his thoughts had wandered to something the Supreme Commander had mentioned prior to his inquiry.

Eventually Barragh's eyes flashed and he'd have replied though...

"It seems unlikely to me that they have any targets beyond the Jedi themselves. Any Jedi would likely do but the higher the rank the better."

...he chuckled briefly, despite their passion the Sith were not altogether organized though he went on to add...

"As for a potential leader for their 'Great Hunt' it would not be one of the Emperors. There were some Sith that excused themselves once the Kaggath and infighting was underway however though they were not a majority."

To Barragh this meant that if there was a consensus to be had it was between a minority of the Sith. A Token group that could not outright speak for the Galactic Empire or the Sith Empire. If news from the Core Worlds was to be believed the Sith, especially those affiliated with the Galactic Empire had other plans as is.

His mind went back again.

He was thinking of the conflict between Jedi and Sith, particularly how it was a cycle that seemed to repeat itself.

The Umbaran had no illusions, the Imperial Confederation sought order however it was woefully underpowered; it had skilled Commanders and dedicated forces but it lacked in the raw resources and manpower that the Core Worlds could call upon in most cases. Many of the worlds within its sphere of influence were not particularly wealthy though there were some that stood out and which would be considered of the utmost importance to the Confederation.

Gazing at Sularen he seemed to observe the mans features, reading them as though he wondered how he might react to what he said next. When Barragh spoke it came as a casual question...

"What if their were no force-sensitives except the ones you allowed, Supreme Commander?"

As for a potential leader for their 'Great Hunt' it would not be one of the Emperors. There were some Sith that excused themselves once the Kaggath and infighting was underway however though they were not a majority."
Sularen pondered at Nenn's statement. At the very least if this Great Hunt moved forward it would be carried out by a minority of Sith and they would not have the resources of the Galactic Empire nor the Sith Order at their disposal when moving against the Jedi and their allies. Still it would be prudent for the Supreme Commander to keep an eye on their activities, after all even if this minority of Sith currently lacked the resources to launch an impactful Great Hunt against the Jedi, they could always work towards building-up a powerbase that would enable them to amplify their destructive potential.

At this point the Supreme Commander was satisfied with the report from the Hand of the Empress as he had everything he needed to know regarding the Sith Conclave on Desevaro. However before he could dismiss the Hand, Nenn would proceed to ask Sularen a simply casual question...

"What if their were no force-sensitives except the ones you allowed, Supreme Commander?"
Sularen paused and reflected for some time about the Hand's question. It was an interesting scenario, although one he had never personally envisioned given at how impossible achieving such a task would be given the constant rise and fall of Sith and Jedi factions. Even then he still managed to offer a response to the Hand.

"Then we would have a much more peaceful galaxy." he simply responded. "No more millennia-long Sith-Jedi Schism, no more Sith or Jedi interference in galactic affairs and no more Sith co-opting of the Imperial ideology. There would of-course be many problems like Democratic Governments and Criminal Organizations but they would swiftly be dealt with. "

"Indeed."

...the Umbaran mused in response to Sularan's reply...

"I think we see different galaxies, Supreme Commander."

Of course the Supreme Commander was correct. Even if the Jedi and Sith were destroyed then the Democratic Governments and Criminal Organizations would still be forces of chaos, they would require a firm hand. The Umbaran considered other possibilities though, after all Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen would eventually die and there was no one in particular that stood out as his successor.

In Barragh's assumption if the Supreme Commander, perhaps one or two others along with him were to leave a gap then the Imperial Confederation would likewise fold.

It would be just like a house of cards.

The Umbaran fixed Sularan with an assessing gaze, examining him further before offering...

"Are you familiar with midi-chlorians?"

...he paused, waiting to see what the Supreme Commander would say before continuing...

"They are essential to force use, symbiotic even to the force user. Small, microscopic organisms that live within all of us. The Jedi have known about them for generations though I imagine they suppressed such information from the public."

...a thin smile graced his features...

"It is interesting that midi-chlorians seem tied to the potential of force use but not to life itself."

He stood, enveloped in the Shadowcloak he wore and seemingly hovering in place with only Sularan's desk separating the two of them.

"As you doubtless know the Empress gives me a great amount of leeway. She has, in the past granted me resources in an unofficial capacity. Resources enough to begin work on a potential solution to the problem of Jedi and Sith."

"Indeed. I think we see different galaxies, Supreme Commander. Are you familiar with midi-chlorians?"

"I'm vaguely familiar with them yes." he responded. A Barragh would later explained, midi-chlorians were microorganism present in all lifeforms which were crucial in granting people the ability to wield the force if they had a sufficient quantity of them within their systems. The fact that such information had been previously suppressed by the Jedi was of no surprise to Sularen given their behaviour. It was still a shame however that despite the amount of power force-users wielded and their tendency to develop superiority complexes the only thing that separated them were a minor difference in biology.

"They are essential to force use, symbiotic even to the force user. Small, microscopic organisms that live within all of us. The Jedi have known about them for generations though I imagine they suppressed such information from the public. Sularen raised his eyebrow as Nenn mentioned a possible solution to the problem of Jedi and Sith. Many had sought to find a final solution to the issue of force-users, to force an equilibrium where those who lacked access to the force wouldn't be subject to the systems and philosophies imposed by force-user organizations upon the galaxy. But none of them had succeeded and the influence of various force-user organizations had only grown since those failed attempts. So naturally when Nenn brought up the topic the Supreme Commander was intrigued even though he had low expectations.

"And exactly what solution do you envision for the problem of Sith and Jedi?"
