Classification: Grenade
Size: Handheld
Length: 90mm
Weight: .4kg
Ammunition Type: N/A
Ammunition Capacity: N/A
Effective Range:
  • Lethal Range - 5m
  • Injury Range - 15m (Note: Affected radius is 20m total)
Rate of Fire: Single use
Special Features:
  • Highly effective against infantry
Strengths:
  • Pink Mist - When detonated, the Micsi grenade sends monomolecular wire into a large cloud at high speeds. Against exposed flesh or lightly armored troops, the results are easily seen as victims within the lethal radius are rendered into a rather nasty mess in the blink of an eye.
  • Lasting Injury - Designed not only to kill on detonation, the Micsi grenade's design causes long-lasting injuries that are hard to heal. The cloud of monofilament wire shreds flesh and slices through bone, easily destroying limbs and causing widespread and severe injuries. Injuries are often debilitating and exceedingly painful, easily removing the affected combatant from the field. Those species known for regenerative abilities will see a slower healing effect as the affected area must grow around, assimilate, or push out the filaments and heal wounds similar to those caused by industrial grinders.
Weaknesses:
  • Armor - Designed primarily for use against unarmored and lightly armored infantry, the monofilament wires are not intended to penetrate heavier armor. Against medium-grade armor, the grenade is only relatively effective, the damage done dependent on armor coverage and proximity to the blast. Against heavy armor, the Micsi is almost entirely ineffective save for rare or lucky occurrences such as soldiers without helmets or soldiers with armor breaches/injuries that have penetrated the armor.
  • Illegal - Deemed inhumane by some governments due to the weapon's function, the Micsi has been declared illegal to possess or utilize on a fair number of planets. Obviously, this can cause problems for those wishing to purchase or own the grenade variant outside of Ganathan territory.
Description:

Essentially composed of two or three dozen meters of monomolecular durasteel monofilament wire wrapped around a ball of explosive and placed in a plasteel shell with an electronic detonator, the Micsi grenade is solely designed for use against infantry personnel.

The grenade, upon detonation, throws out a cloud of monofilament wire segments at blurring speed that, put simply, shreds whatever it comes into contact with. Against unarmored or lightly armored infantry the grenade is extremely effective, often rendering the victims into a leaking mess upon detonation. For those lucky, or unlucky, enough to survive the blast, long lasting and debilitating injuries occur as monofilament wire embeds itself into the wound making healing a long and painful process.

While the weapon is highly effective against light infantry, the Micsi sees reduced effectiveness against dedicated armor. Medium armor, the primary armor type of the galaxy currently, remains more or less effective against the Ganathan grenade. This is dependent on a number of variables, however, such as armor layout, material, coverage, and proximity to the blast radius. For those wearing heavy armor, short of opting out of helmets, the armor can and often does shrug the majority of the danger off. In addition, the Micsi has been determined an inhumane weapon by a relatively small number of systems and groups, making ownership and purchase of the grenade variant tricky, if not outright difficult to pull off.
