OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
 • Intent: A minor refinement of canon relativistic shields’ occasional time dilation incidents. It's no longer a bug - now it's a feature.
 • Image Source: Concept by Evgeny Rodygin, found at https://www.artstation.com/artwork/1V8kK
 • Canon Link: Relativistic Shield

 • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
 • Manufacturer: Merrill-Valkner Systems Engineering (MVSE)
 • Model: Aryzah Relativistic Shield Projector
 • Affiliation: Closed market (ask first)
 • Modularity: None
 • Production: Limited
 • Material: Steristeel, electronics
SPECIAL FEATURES
 • Adjustable relativistic shield

STRENGTHS
 • From the subjective perspective of the ship's crew, time can pass fractionally faster or slower while traveling in hyperspace than it normally would.

WEAKNESSES
 • Spill your drink on this thing and your next hyperjump might feel like a month. Play games with one of these in the Chiloon Rift or the Tyus Cluster, and nastier things can happen.

DESCRIPTION
Every hypercapable ship has a relativistic shield that protects the crew from the radical time dilation effects of hyperspace travel. Damage or malfunction can cause spectacularly odd incidents.

Named for the Jedi ghost who helped Kinnin Vo-Shay escape the time warp of the Tyus Cluster, the Aryzah may be history's first reliably adjustable relativistic shield.

The Aryzah includes every possible safety interlock, as you might imagine. Standard settings cap the Aryzah at 20% dilation, though any experienced engineer could override the governor. At a deep level, the field cannot be reconfigured for more than 30% dilation either way, meaning a ten-day hyperjump can feel like no more than thirteen days and no less than seven. (Note that no possible use or misuse of the Aryzah can speed up a ship’s objective hyperspace travel time. The ship would still take ten days to reach its destination so far as the outside galaxy is concerned.)

On your average day, the Aryzah functions as nothing not than a standard relativistic shield.During most journeys, the pilot can leave the Aryzah at its default zero-dilation setting, or maybe dial things down a bit to make time pass more quickly. Where the Aryzah shines, though, is in crisis situations, making it highly suitable for search-and-rescue craft. A subjectively shorter transit time is the next best thing to a medical stasis field. Alternately, the Aryzah can offer a ship's crew a few extra hours to rest and prepare for their immediate future.

As with most Merrill-Valkner products, the Aryzah’s console and casing are made of steristeel. It's not the strongest material, but on a tramp freighter, cleanliness can be worth its weight in aurodium.
