OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
 • Manufacturer: Merrill-Valkner Systems Engineering (MVSE)
 • Model: Andor Gravity Reciprocator
 • Affiliation: Closed market (ask first)
 • Modularity: None
 • Production: Semi-unique
 • Material: Steristeel, electronics
SPECIAL FEATURES
 • Crystal gravfield trap (CGT)
 • Advanced artificial gravity generator

STRENGTHS
 • Allows a ship to escape interdiction in very specific situations.

WEAKNESSES
 • Absolutely useless against multiple sources of interdiction. A basic pulse-mass interdiction minefield, for example, or the presence of two interdiction vessels, would prevent this machine from doing its thing. If an interdictor has multiple gravity well generators, some applications of those generators (e.g. explicitly focusing more than one on a single target vessel) can also cause real problems.
 • Can cause severe hull (and crew) stress if direction of use doesn’t line up with the ship’s own artificial gravity. Even if everything lines up perfectly, the crew may experience gravity up to 5G while the system is in use.
 • Usable only by vessels up to 100 metres tall/wide, and more than 25 metres long, due to technical limits, console bulk, processor load, and power requirements.
 • Usable only when exiting an interdiction field; cannot be used to enter one safely; cannot be used at the same time as HIMS technology.

DESCRIPTION
The Andor Gravity Reciprocator, or AGR, allows a vessel to leave an interdiction field in specific circumstances. An interdiction field is an artificial gravity well. The Andor uses an expensive, dedicated crystal gravfield trap to analyze the depth and curvature of that well. Once the AGR has assessed the interdiction field’s spacetime distortion, it applies an extremely powerful short-term antigravity field. When the AGR’s field creates an equal and opposite influence on spacetime, it flattens gravitational effects for the ship’s immediate area, creating a temporary libration point. The ship then has a brief window (perhaps five minutes) in which to jump to hyperspace safely.

When compared to other means of beating interdiction, the AGR has explicit advantages and disadvantages. Unlike a HIMS, it can exit, rather than enter, an interdiction field. Unlike a deployable S-thread booster, the AGR does not involve jettisoning and abandoning an extremely expensive piece of technology. However, a HIMS or a deployable S-thread booster can function despite the influence of multiple interdiction devices, and the AGR cannot. An AGR cannot allow a ship to enter an interdiction field as a HIMS does. Also, an AGR has strict size limits. Any ship under 25 metres in length simply can’t support the technology. Any ship taller and/or wider than 100 metres won’t fit in the temporary libration point. And unlike a deployable S-thread booster, the AGR is good for exactly one ship, period. Bringing friends along is not an option.

As per the MVSE standard, the AGR’s console and casing are made of steristeel -- not the strongest material around, but the easiest to keep clean.
