Name: Meridian Base
Intent: To define the Rebel Alliance’s base on Heklor
Classification: Project Base
Location: Heklor, deep in the forest near the ancient city of Miji
Affiliation: The Rebel Alliance
Population: 250 Marines; 45 fighter pilots; 40 Intelligence personnel; 15 communications officers; 85 scientists/technicians; 20 medical officers
Defenses: Natural camouflage; natural predators; fighter squadrons; hidden in-ground ion cannon defenses; camouflaged anti-aircraft SAM sites; camouflaged infantry pillbox defenses

Points of Interest:
The Hangars (Northeast):
  • The Main Hangar: This facility contained the active starships used by the Alliance Starfighter Corps. It is the outermost section of the base, and its doors are topographically visible to people from the outside, as it opens out from the bluff the base is built against.
  • The Prototype Hangar: This facility was actually larger than the Main Hangar. It contained various testing facilities and housed the experimental starships under development. It also served as a mechanic’s shop for starships in need of repair.
The Lab (Northwest): About 100 meters north of the Benefactor’s Office, the Lab was where the scientists congregated and worked on the more minute details and components of the experimental starcraft. The entrance to the Lab was rather popular, as the food and drink dispensers were located here.

The Atrium (Southwest): The Atrium was situated underneath the communications array, and was the largest section of the base apart from the hangars. It was a round room and featured a giant holographic projector as it was used for mission briefings, and housed some flight simulators and prototype machinery deemed satisfactory for final approval by Alliance leaders. The height of the Atrium is approximately 50 meters.
  • The Comms Center (Southwest): The Comms Center was situated underneath the communications array, and sits as the second floor to the Atrium. It is a dimly lit room that housed various comms systems and computers.
The Medical Ward (South): Linked from the inside of the main corridor loop, the Medical Ward is just that--a medical ward for the sick and wounded.

The Benefactor’s Office (Southwest): A small, sparsely furnished room just off the main corridor from the Atrium--this is where Genviève Lasedri kept herself most often during her visits to the base. The room is only distinguishable by the word ‘Selectivism’ written in red ink across her desktop.

Description: Meridian Base was formed primarily by boring under Heklor’s fertile surface, positioned at a bluff. A system of tunnels, floored with a combination of Synthplast and Sturdiplast (providing a strangely silky look but rugged texture), formed a rectangular layout with a cross-section at the center, as well as a few branches that connected to the Atrium, the hangars, and the pillbox defenses. The tunnel systems looked much bigger than they actually were when walking down the hallways, but the main rectangular system was only 300m x 150m, approximately.

The sections of the base that were above-ground were camouflaged to blend in with the forest environment surrounding. The most prominent feature of the base outwardly was the communications array, which received signals from the Holonet, as well as transceived Alliance ‘Red Network’ transmissions to and from the plethora of the Rebels’ makeshift relay stations situated across the galaxy.

Taking advantage of natural power sources for energy efficiency and to avoid coming up on careful sensor sweeps of the planet, all essential machinery (doors, lighting, life support, turbolifts, etc.) operated strictly on steam technology.

History: The secondary base of the Rebel Alliance, Meridian, was established on remote Heklor to keep from attracting attention. The presence of the base went unnoticed until Alliance General Mrrew purposely allowed hunters to know its location.

Meridian Base was founded mainly as a forward base in the vicinity of almost all of the major Imperial powers the Alliance had targeted. But its placement was also strategic in being a frontier world where secret projects could be carried out. Here, Benefactor Geneviève Lasedri gathered her best scientists and technicians to develop experimental starcraft.

Meridian Base was later evacuated when it was surmised that the Tion Hegemony would soon dispatch a force to attack the base after General Mrrew provided a contracted hunter with the location coordinates.

As with most of our military bases, I'm going to require this has a dev thread. Ten posts and two(or more) writers is the minimum. Just be sure to focus on aspect(s) of the base.
