Mending a few Poor Souls

Mandolorians. They were a--a unique lot. Lumi was still trying to figure out what she thought of them. But for now she was working on their planet of Dubrillion, doing a fair amount of research before heading up a mercy mission to the poorer people in the planet's more remote regions.

The blind doctor stood still for a moment in her small office, listening to the transcription of her notes a third time. She could feel the metalic edge of her desk under her gloved fingertips. Her nose tickled at the faint scent of the Antiseptic and bacta they use in this hospital.

"... In conclusion we will never fully understand the relationship between the JCL-06 virus and autism until more exstensive heritage material is available," the voice finished.

"Doctor Snow," a voice of a droid intoned from behind her, "Your escort into the mountains is ready."

Lumi gave a slight smile on her frail face. She gripped her satchel and pulled a sword over her shoulder, an advised gift from one of her grateful tribesmen before she left home. "We should get a move on. Those poor mountain folk will not heal themselves, now will they?"

Was Nikole proud of doing mercenary work? No, no she was not. It brought back fond memories of her days in the Republic, when she was actually fighting for something. But she supposed escorting some blind doctor wasn't too terrible a way to earn a paycheck.
She held her helmet in her prosthetic arm as she entered behind a droid that informed the doctor in question that she had arrived.
"Doctor Snow? I'm Nikole, Nikole Vizsla. I'll be your escort."
She hesitated.
"I'm. . . unsure if I should shake your hand or not. How would you prefer we exchange pleasantries?"

Lumi gave a polite but soft smile at the woman. She couldn't so much "see" her as she could "hear" her telepathically. Lumi had learned over the years to do her very best to keep her mutation as quiet and subtle as she could, but hearing the gentle murmurs of another's thoughts was often all that kept her from colliding head-first with them.

"A pleasure to meet you, Nikole," the Doctor said shifting the weight of her satchel on her shoulder, "I apologize, I am still learning Basic, it is very new to me," truth be told, less than three years ago no one on her planet even had come in contact with any off worlders, let alone knew they existed. She had learned so much in the short time frame, she had rapidly become one of the most educated people on her planet. She offered her free hand, "Thank you for being willing to help me on this, er, important mission."

When her hand had been shaken the small framed woman felt against the wall and gingerly took hold of her cane. Tapping it along the floor, she followed Nikole to their transport, "I trust the Institution told you what we will be doing on this trip? A study and a compassion mission. There is a rumor of an outbreak of the TMF-36Sigma/Orison Virus in the mountains. It is a rare treat indeed."

After a moment she felt the fresh, free air on her face and knew they were at the landing pad for the airspeeder. Her thin lips quirked in a playful half smile, "Would you prefer that I drive?"
