Originally designed as a patrol cruiser for the Galactic Alliance, most of the first line of MC42 Cruisers were destroyed during the Battle of Fondor. The remaining ships still under construction were smuggled in parts after the battle of Fondor into Outer Rim Coalition Space and constructed there by trusted Soro Suub engineers. Because the original Mon Calamari designs were more artistically and uniquely designed, Soro Suub engineers changed the design to standardize it for ease of use in the Outer Rim where resources would be scarce allowing friendly shipyards to familiarize themselves with the designs.
The MC42 was originally meant to be a patrol cruiser in the relative stability of Alliance space necessitating mostly point defense weapons and ion cannons for stopping pirates in their tracks and capturing would-be wrong-doers alive. With the shift into a fight for survival more dual turbolasers were added to increase the overall firepower of the vessel making it a full wartime vessel. The ship kept many of its redundant systems however as it was still more than ever going to be serving a role where it would be shipped out alone or in small groups for long periods of time without support.
The MC42 would find its place among the Alliance in Exile's navy as a support ship as well as a long-range patrol and strike cruiser for use against the Sith Empire and the First Order but as the Alliance in Exile solidified its place in the Outer Planets Alliance, the need for the ship waned and many of the vessels found their way into the hands of the growing Resistance fleet hidden in Sith Space. Ultimately the design would fall into the hands of Kyprin Engineering Corp.
