Description: The MC1004 OPAL-class comm laser is a specialized communications transmitter which can send compressed microbursts of communications to other allied forces in system without suffering from Ewar and Stellar jamming effects. Designed to work with the forthcoming MC1005 Dolfin-class Communications Array, Multiple OPAL-class Comm Lasers can be connected to the Dolfin giving it multiple laser communications channels to stay in contact with ships during heavy jamming.

The MC1004 OPAL works by transmitting audio only communications from the MC1005 Dolfin into a specialized MUX "multiplexer" which compresses the analog signal wave down into a single frequency. This signal is then transferred to a Beam Expander which uses prismatic crystals to boost the signal, and convert this signal into a compressed beam of Infrared frequency collimated light. This optical light beam is then sent through a slit filter which breaks the beam down into a series of varying light intensity microbursts which are then fired by the comm lasers parobolic transmitting array. These microsecond long microbursts of light are then received by a system of photoconductive filaments laid along the vessels hull which then in tern send the signal to a small built in decoding pod which uses Photoresistors to separate and decode the signal. The signals are then sent to the systems de-multiplexer. A built in computer array correlates the signal, sending it to that vessels communications suite which then reconstructs the original transmission.
