STRENGTHS

Power is a Mask:
Through Sorcery and Alchemy, Anet Raine has bound her power in the Force to the mask. When worn, she has access to it as she has before. When unworn, she appears to be an ordinary, non-force-sensitive being, even to the wisest Jedi Masters.

Latent Hunger: The mask latently drains the Force around it. In most circumstances, this effect is minuscule. However, this ability scales to the source of power it has access to, such as the presence of other powerful artifacts or vergences. This ability can be mitigated by any means or techniques that would mitigate or prevent Force Drain in other circumstances.

The Sight of Madness: Direct “eye contact” with the mask can cause feelings of confusion, discomfort, and fear; compelling weaker beings and animals to avoid facing the mask. This can be resisted by Force users and even non-Force users trained to resist mentalism or those with particularly strong wills.

Phrik-Cortosis Lattice: The alchemized leather mask is reinforced with a phrik-cortosis lattice that gives it both a dark metallic sheen and strong resistance against kinetic and energy damage, but can still be broken by concentrated damage from, say, a lightsaber.

WEAKNESSES

The Cost of Absence:
So long as the mask remains intact and unworn, Anet Raine’s connection to the Force is reduced to that of an ordinary, non-force-sensitive being.

The Consequence of Destruction: If it is destroyed, Anet Raine will no longer be bound by the conditions of the mask, causing immediate pain and disorientation for Anet; her power will not return to her immediately, taking a matter of days or weeks to fully restore her natural power.

Force Nullification: Nullifying the mask will sever Anet’s connection to the mask as if it were unworn, but otherwise the mask still retains her power.

One Mask or the Other: Anet Raine cannot wear two face coverings at once, limiting her ability to wear this with any kind of helmet, for example.

All Power is Corrupting: As an item constructed by and imbued with the Dark Side, long-term use and proximity corrupts its owner, and long-term disuse causes a withdrawal-like effect that can only be relieved by using the mask.

The Foul Taste of Darkness: As is the case with many Dark Side artifacts, the Mask of Anet Raine emanates pure evil that can be sensed by even a novice force user.

DESCRIPTION

Anet Raine’s infiltration of the High Republic’s senate presented a significant challenge that many Sith face when masquerading as civilians: the ability to hide her presence in the Force, particularly from Jedi Masters. While researching ancient Sith techniques, she devised a plan to forge - through alchemy and sorcery - what she described as a “reverse Force Mask.”

That is, a mask that would contain and restore one’s sensitivity to the Force when worn, but cut them off when not. Her research took her through the notes of scholars who described such masks of similar purpose forged by Sith Lords in the past. Using Tuk’ata leather reinforced by cortosis and phrik as the base material, the secrets of Sith Alchemy, and no small amount of Sorcery fueled by the vergence within Coruscant’s Sith Temple, the Mask of Anet Raine was created.

Physically, it appears to be a half-mask that does not fully cover the mouth, jaw, or head. When worn, the mask grants Anet her full power in the Force, as well as that which the mask drains from the world around it. When unworn, she is stripped of all power and compelled to live as if an ordinary, non-force-sensitive being. There is no amount of time or distance to get around it - so long as the mask remains intact, so does the bargain she’s made with it.

As an artifact of the Dark Side, there is more to the mask’s nature than just an ability to ‘choose’ when to be a Force User. Due to the evil and dark nature of the mask, even just being in its presence has a corrupting influence, and long-term disuse leads to withdrawal (physical weakness, paranoia, anger) that can only be relieved by wearing the mask again. It is also undeniably ‘loud’ in the Force; even a novice force user can sense its existence, preventing Anet Raine from hiding her presence at all while wearing it.

Should the mask be destroyed by her hand or another's, the bargain will end, returning Anet Raine’s natural power in time, but not without immediate consequences. Pain, injury, and incapacitation await her on that day. If that day comes at all. For a shrewd enemy might very well take the mask from her and hide it.

Still, as far as Anet Raine is concerned, the price of power is always worth it.
