HISTORY
Childhood
Marius was born on Dantooine to Retired Centurion Tyrus Hayes and Amanda Lane(maiden name), Marius spent his boyhood helping his father around the farm and learning to shoot the legion way. He would often wander the farm hunting for vermin while his dad was doing maintenance on his replacement leg or one other odd task. At least once every winter and summer Tyrus and Marius would head into the woodlands near the farm to hunt, and “keep their skills up” as his father would put it. He wouldn't understand it himself until Marius joined the legion in his 17th year of life.
The legion
The legion became a second home for Marius. Taking to it like a fish to water thanks to his father. His first assignments were putting down insurrections on worlds that had spies from other empires coming to cause trouble. Through these first few conflicts he became intimately familiar with CQC and room clearing. At one point upon clearing a room the point man for his team had tripped an IED and by some miracle all Marius got from it was a scar on his left cheek. After his second tour of duty he was offered up to become a Joint Tactical Air Controller (JTAC) and learned the beauty of calling your buddy in orbit with the biggest gun. Eventually the conflict on Muunilist came.
During Muunilist’s campaign Marius experienced plenty of room to room and floor by floor clearing. Often employing fast ropes to break through upper floors and take command teams while another team took the lower floors. It was during one such engagement Decanus Marius lost some of his hearing and half his squad. At this point in the campaign in the conflict the Dark imperials had become wise to their tactics, and a particularly brave commander called in FPF(Final Protective Fire) on himself. The officer got two to the chest and one to the head for his troubles, but the whistle of artillery heralded disaster. Marius has ordered his squad into the reinforced stairwell. All but two of his squad members had made it in and started down before the shell hit. The shrapnel shredded Kail and sent Marco off the building through the window. The body was never recovered, meanwhile Marius had caught shrapnel in his chest armour and leg having his helmet visor shattered. Despite this he managed to make his way down the stairs with his team and finish their section until relief arrived low on ammo and down to his blade and a single mag but alive. It would be after this operation and eventually the campaign as a whole where he would get the option to join the Lilaste Order… he would accept.
Forging a blade
Training for the order was more brutal than Marius could have imagined. The forced marches through bad weather and worse environments, terrible sleeping schedules and ceaseless drills were minor compared to his fear of snakes which he had the “Opportunity” to handle, as well as a ‘pleasant” swim with the local shark equivalent on several land nav courses. Both of which almost broke
him, but as is the soldiers nature he embraced the suck and drove on.
