Description: The stoners that were responsible for designing the anti-aircraft variant of the Varindar realized that attack submarines were not always the craft of choice for underwater operations, and that slow submarines were liable to be picked off by faster, smaller escort submarines. In the Maladon, a hydrostatic field generator provided improved defense and allowed the designers to save on the weight of the armor, while retaining air-independent propulsion, and hence make the craft faster than the much larger craft they were designed to escort. In addition, the EWAR suite was removed due to a lack of space, and a modified quad-laser was fitted for underwater operations, with two torpedo tubes complementing the craft's weaponry. Something's gotta give for giving such a craft combat capabilities: it does not have the ability to carry passengers, nor does it have the ability to carry any significant amount of cargo in its hold.
