GENERAL INFORMATION
- Name: Makurian
- Designation: Sentient
- Origins: Lykora
- Average Lifespan: 70-90 standard years
- Estimated Population: [Planetary]
- Description: Makurians are an anthropomorphic simian species known for their agility, curiosity, and tribal traditions. Possessing prehensile feet, dexterous tails, and expressive faces covered in fur, they evoke both monkey-like grace and humanoid intelligence. Makurians are rarely encountered off-world and tend to live in treetop or cliffside villages, guided by oral tradition and spiritual mysticism.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
- Breathes: Type I atmosphere
- Average Height of Adults: 1.5 - 1.8 meters
- Average Length of Adults: N/A
- Skin color: Typically grey or dark under the fur
- Hair color: Shades of brown, red, black, or cream; white and silver rare and often viewed as spiritual omens
- Distinctions: All Makurians possess fully fur-covered faces and bodies, long prehensile tails, sharp canines, and elongated limbs adapted for climbing and rapid motion. Their hands and feet are highly dexterous, and their eyes are expressive and wide-set. Males tend to have broader shoulders and facial tufts; females are often slimmer with subtler cranial crests or ornamentation. Regional tribes show variations in fur density and coloration.
- Races: Distinct tribal groupings (e.g. Cliff Dwellers, Forest Runners, and River Kin) differ slightly in build and cultural practices
- Force Sensitivity: [Rare] - One Force-sensitive is typically born every century among Makurians.
Strengths:
- Extreme agility and balance due to prehensile limbs and tails
- Strong memory and oral tradition passed through generations
Weaknesses:
- Lack of technological advancement leaves them vulnerable to modern exploitation
- Culturally averse to leaving their homeworld or adapting to off-world societies
CULTURE
- Diet: Omnivore. Their diet includes fruits, insects, fish, root vegetables, and small game. Highly sensitive to chemical preservatives and synthetic foods, which can be toxic.
- Communication: Primarily a tonal spoken language called "Chuwani," characterized by clicks, hoots, and melodic inflection. Supplemented with expressive body language and tail gestures.
- Technology level: Pre-industrial. Tribal tools, gliders, and woven architecture are standard. Some tribes have recently begun integrating basic galactic tech (e.g. solar lamps).
- Religion/Beliefs: Makurians believe in the "Three Winds" - ancestral spirits that guide the body, the mind, and the soul. Force-sensitives are seen as "Windtouched" and revered as spiritual avatars. However, prophecy dictates that no more than one Windtouched may rise per generation, making them both honored and feared.
- General behavior: Makurians are communal, mischief-loving, and value play as both bonding and teaching. Children are raised by the whole village, and storytelling is a key cultural pillar. Courtship is expressive and dance-like. While not expansionist, they are innately curious and adventurous. Diurnal. They revere Jedi as walking myths but are wary of outsiders disrupting the balance of their world.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Makurians evolved in the high canopies and sheer cliffs of Lykora's equatorial regions. Their culture developed in isolation, structured around tribal elders, oral tradition, and spiritual rituals tied to celestial events. First contact with the Galactic Alliance occurred less then a century ago, when a Jedi archaeological mission crash-landed on the planet during a hyperspace misjump. While the Jedi were rescued and eventually returned to the Order, stories of Lykora's meditative landscapes and latent Force presence spread quietly among explorer circles. Leading to Lykora's reluctant introduction to the wider galaxy.
Over time, scattered Makurians have left their world for diplomatic service, or exploration, though they remain a rare sight beyond their native forests. Rumors persist of ancient Makurian myths that speak of stars falling to their world and of "Sky Beasts", a possible ancient encounter with off-worlders. For now, Makurians straddle the line between ancient tradition and an uncertain galactic future.
