- Power Surge
- Touch Technology
- Power Surge - Having access to more power than a conventional lightsaber, one can surge the power to create a stronger blade for a few moments at a time. When clashing with another lightsaber, this will often result in a shower of sparks being created where the lightsabers collide. It can also allow the blade to cut through materials much more easily, though, lightsaber-resistant materials remain largely unaffected
- Touch Tech - The retrosabre is very minimalistic, with even its ignition switch looking only like a clip. It is in fact, immediately turned on when one makes contact with it; accidental ignitions are avoided with a twist lock on the bottom of the hilt. When the power cable is inserted, a one-third turn locks it in, and another allows power to flow to the hilt. It is very difficult to turn this switch without meaning to
- Connected - Due to the retrosabre being connected to an external power supply, it can inhibit/prohibit certain lightsaber forms or abilities, such as lightsaber throw, as well as the cable having to potential to snag on objects should the wielder not be mindful of this
- Two Hands - In order to activate the power surge function, two hands were required to be on the 'sabre...one two rotate the cable switch, and the other to flip the primary ignition.
The main part of the 'sabre, the hilt itself, was a work of beauty. With the traditional lightsaber components being visible on the top and bottom parts of the hilt, the mid grip was covered with a beautifully varnished wood, and had gold inlays separating the metal from the aforementioned wood grip.
Maho Aeko's mother, Saka, was once part of a Jedi order in which she made fashioned this retrosabre as part of her training. She eventually had a falling out with the Jedi and returned home, where the sabre would remain for sometime as a keepsake. When Saka felt Maho was old enough to leave home, she gifted her the sabre for Maho to use if she was in trouble.
It is a very interesting weapon, as very few lightsabers use the retrosabre configuration any longer. The power pack simply is fastened to the waist, on whichever side you would use the lightsabre with; it is then connected to the hilt via the power cable. Due to the hilt containing no power cells, it remained extremely lightweight, with all the power cells located in the pack. It possessed an ability, due to it's increased power source, to be able to surge the energy in the blade...creating either fantastic lightshows when clashing with another lightsaber, or being able to cut through practically any metal with ease. That being said, if overused, the lightsaber component within the hilt could short out the blade, the power pack could oversurge and fry itself (requiring a new set of cells to be installed), or the oversurge could begin to melt the hilt itself. This surge feature was enabled by rotating the power cable lock a one-third past the power ignition, and flipping the touch ignition with your other hand, needless to say, activating the ability required two hands to be on the 'sabre.
