  Born and raised on Panatha, Lyra was nurtured on the rich Epicanthix culture of martial excellence and artistic expression. From a young age she displayed both athletic and musical abilities, both of which were encouraged by her parents. Marksman, martial artist and skillful with stringed instruments, bright and shining Lyra made her family proud.
  
  The starry eyed Epicanthix left Panatha to explore other places and cultures. She traveled the galaxy, experiencing several careers. Merecenary, bomber pilot, professional musician, deep-space scout. Lyra craved doing and learning new things. She found success in each new venture.
  
  But her life changed after her partner had been brutally attacked by a gang and eventually died. Usually strong in spirit, Lyra was broken. Spiraling into a deep depression, she wallowed in self-destruction. She drowned in drinking, deathstick addiction and promiscuity while living in squalor. She lost everything.
  
  She was pulled up by a curious benefactor. A middle-aged woman found her quite literally in a gutter. She took her to a ship, filled her with caf and gave her a desperately needed shower. The kindness gave way to hard truths and a regimen of physical activity, self-denial and working hard loading and unloading cargo, and sometime contraband, from the woman's ship. The price of getting her life back was indentured labor for two years.
  
  All that once glimmered for Lyra had been tarnished. But she would was determined to make a new life. Taking leave of the captain. Lyra set out on a new path, a solo path. Lyra purchased a ship and began to carve out a new career, captaining a ship for hire. Transport, scouting, smuggling, her varied experiences helped her create a ship and a business that would serve a variety of needs. Things began to change, she had good days, found moments of peace and even happiness.
